FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
APRIL 17, 2016
First Reading: Acts 13:14, 43-52 Paul and Barnabas addressed many people, and large crowds gathered to hear them. Some of the Jews became jealous, and argued with whatever Paul said. But Paul and Barnabas continued preaching their message of salvation and everlasting life, until they were eventually forced to leave the town.
Second Reading: Revelation 7:9, 14b-17 John saw a vision of many people surrounding a throne and the Lamb. One of the elders told him these were the people who had survived great periods of trial, but maintained strong faith in God. Now they would receive eternal protection and comfort from God as reward for their loyalty.
Gospel: John 10:27-30 Jesus states that his sheep know his voice and follow him, and will receive eternal life. Jesus also says that no one can snatch his followers away, because God is greater than anyone who might try, and Jesus is one with God.

PARISH CARDINAL’S APPEAL UPDATE
To date, our parish has received total pledges amounting to $66,466.00 from 202 individuals and households. This represents 79 % of our assigned parish goal of $84,000.00. It comes out to an average gift of $ 329.00 Our remaining balance is now down to just $17,534.00. We respectfully request that, personal finances allowing, every individual and household give prayerful consideration to supporting this year’s drive. We are especially hopeful of reaching this year’s goal as we will be hosting our Archbishop, Timothy Cardinal Dolan for the closing mass of our Parish 50th Anniversary, December 3rd. I think we would all feel proud to look him in the eye knowing that we, as a parish, had made our goal for his 2016 Campaign. Please remember that pledges work best for many of us because we can pay them off over the next few months. Many thanks to all of who have already sent in your Appeal envelopes. God bless you. _____________________________________

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 17TH
This day is also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday.” The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publically fulfill the Lord’s instruction to “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt. 9:38; Lk 10:2) While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male & female contemplative & apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life. Here at Saint Aedan’s we are blessed to have one our own, Ryan A. Muldoon, in his first year of studies for the priesthood at Pontifical North American College in Rome. Please remember Ryan and his fellow seminarians in your ongoing prayers. _____________________________________
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS O God, Father of Mercies, Provider of a bountiful Harvest, send your Graces upon those you have called to gather the fruits of Your labor, preserve and strengthen others in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Open the hearts of Your children that they may discern a love and desire to surrender themselves to serving others in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Teach all Your faithful to follow their respective paths in the life guided by Your Divine Word and Truth. Through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Angels, and saints, humbly hear our prayers, and grant Your Church’s needs, through Christ, our Lord. Amen. _______________________________________

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
