SUNDAY
29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 18, 2020 PG. 3
Just want to thank everyone for their continued compliance with Coronavirus protocols. Like you all, I am starting to get fatigued with it as well. However, we have to continue with them to maintain the freedom we have to worship in our church building. As events in Brooklyn demonstrate with the shut down of churches , our governor and mayor have no regard for the essential role religious institutions play in the life of every day people. We must not give an excuse to anyone to say that the Church is contributing to spread the virus by non-compliance. Thanks be to God, I am unaware of any spread happening as a result of parishes being opened since we started public mass at the end of June. Let’s pray it stays that way. Thanks again for your continued patience. As always, we will be decorating the outside of our parish with Christmas Trees. We will be having the lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 5, 2020 after the 4:30pm Mass. Now is the chance to donate to have tree dedicated as you choose. The donation is $175 per tree and the deadline is November 16. This would be a great “social-distance” way to celebrate Christmas and support the parish. Thank you! Early Voting and the General Election will be hosted at OLHC from Saturday October 24-Sunday November 1st. Those interested in hours of operation should go to the website: https://www.vote.nyc/page/early-voting-information I am happy to announce that the new school managed by AHRC NYC in our building has started! It’s name is the James P. Murphy Staten Island Preparatory School. As mentioned before, this school serves preschoolers and students up to 12 years old with special needs. Remember also that (when things return to some normalcy) our religious education will be held in the school in the afternoons during the week and on weekends as usual . Also, the parish will be able to use the gym for parish activities and after school hours. This is the beginning of a beautiful partnership and I am grateful to the Archdiocese of New York and AHRC in making it possible. Fr. James Ferreira, Pastor Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Staten Island
