‘Dubai Culture’ app unveiled at GITEX

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated governmental entity for promoting heritage, culture and the arts, today

announced an Augmented Reality (AR)-enabled mobile app at GITEX Technology Week being held at the Dubai International Convention Centre.

The ‘Dubai Culture’ app aims to enrich the visitor experience by drawing on the latest technology.

Moza Suwaidan, Director of Information Technology Department, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said, “With the ‘Dubai Culture’ app, we are setting a benchmark in fostering cultural collaboration and knowledge sharing. While its primary purpose is to familiarise users with the heritage and cultural sites in Dubai, the App takes cultural interactivity to a whole new level.

“For the first time, visitors to Dubai and residents now have the convenient facility to discover the city’s treasures seamlessly – and gain insights into the city’s cultural heritage with the touch of a button. The Dubai Culture app is a strong

demonstration that when technology meets creativity, the end-result is unparalleled.”

The distinguishing aspect of the Dubai Culture app is its AR features, supported by iBeacon. It will guide users to AR locations identified by Dubai Culture. The App will notify the user when they are in close proximity of any AR-content and scanning the camera in the smartphone will bring to life the AR targets to visualise the content.

A geo-location map enabled functionality will enable users to locate all relevant heritage, cultural and artistic destinations in the city. It will also provide details on cultural events in the city, the newly discovered artefacts and other artistic aspects of the city.

using its infrastructure components at the show.

Brooke says Dell has been steadily growing its business in the region. “Our founder, Michael Dell was in Saudi, Qatar and UAE recently, and his commitment to the business in this part of the world is tremendous. It is inspiring to see how he is moving this company forward,” he adds.

Dell also remains firmly committed to the PC business, despite all the gloomy predictions for this market. “The opportunity in the PC business is immense. There are tens of millions PC users out there and will continue to use PC for many years to come. But, more importantly, we believe as a company, if

you want to offer end-to-end solutions in the infrastructure space, client is a critical component. It is a market in transition but a significant one,” says Brooke.

He adds that software will also be a key focus area for Dell in the coming year. “It is a critical component of our

business, and we have made a lot of strategic acquisitions of companies as such as Quest, SoniWALL and StatSoft to grow this business. You will see us dramatically increase our software footprint, especially in the Middle East.”

partner to onboard new technologies of solutions, being able to sell and install them and make them successful. We not only have the resources here but we also have it at a global level to grow those capacities quickly to be stronger. We are also an ATC for many of our vendors, which is key for us to deliver professional services and training services among others,” Desamaison-Cognet says.

The company will focus on key growth drivers such as social, mobility, analytics, Big Data, cloud and security in the coming few months along with supporting partners to help grow the business.

Secunia plans to bolster channel playThe IT security company Secunia,

which is exhibiting at Gitex along with its partner emt Distribution, is looking to ramp up its partner ecosystem.

“The key message we are sending out at this year’s Gitex is that we are enabling and strengthening our channel. At the beginning of this year, we moved from a direct sales organization to a channel-focused one,” says John Spoor, Regional Director – Emerging Markets & APAC, Secunia.

He adds that Secunia is very particular about the type of partners it is seeking. “We are very hands on with our partners and we don’t want too many of them. We are looking for very specific partners such as security systems integrators, consultant and

Inspector) product, a patch management solution for Microsoft and third party programmes. “This is a scanning solution that is capable of assessing the security state of practically all applications and alert if it is not patched against critical vulnerabilities,” says Spoor.

Secunia is also hosting its first-ever worldwide partner conference in Dubai next week, taking place at the Microsoft Technology Centre. “We have partners from all over the Middle East and Europe attending this conference. We also have keynote speakers from Microsoft’s cyber-crime unit lead and regional technology officer in addition to customer presentations about the SCCM value proposition,” says Spoor.

MSPs. We want our partners to understand our value-proposition, because ours is a still a nice-to-have solution. Although patching is becoming more important, it’s still not seen a top priority. So it’s up to us and the partners to educate the market.”

At the show, Secunia is demonstrating two of its key offerings. “We are showcasing our vulnerability intelligence manager, which is basically a real-time alerting service on vulnerabilities for security organisations. There has been huge increase in the number of vulnerabilities and this year we have issued 30 percent more advisories.”

Also being showcased is the company CSI (Corporate Software

Citrix: UAE employees demand mobilityCitrix today revealed findings of its research into the adoption of, and attitude towards, mobile and flexible working in the UAE.

Conducted by YouGov ahead of this year’s GITEX Technology Week, the report highlights that 94 per cent

of UAE office workers would feel less stressed, be more productive and achieve better balance between work and family responsibilities if they were given the freedom to work flexibly outside of the office.

Demand for flexible working has increased by a further 20 per cent since 2013, with many UAE workers also indicating that the ability to work from anywhere would significantly increase their job satisfaction.

In contrast, only 23 per cent of businesses surveyed fully encourage and enable employees to work from anywhere, using any device. Further, 34 per cent of UAE organisations believe that employees may become less productive when outside an office environment, whilst 33 per cent

“These latest results demonstrate a slow but clear cultural shift in the

attitude and adoption of mobile working technologies – employee demand is strong, but businesses still have some progress to make in meeting that demand,” said Johnny Karam, Regional Vice President, Middle East and Africa, Citrix. “As technology has become a seamless part of people’s work and personal lives, Citrix has provided desktop, mobile, app and data services to enable people to work better.
