Dear Parents,
Swimming Carnival
Thank you to everyone who attended the Swimming Carnival last week. It was wonderful
to see so many of our parents and extended family supporting the students. K-2
students had a wonderful time and it was great to see all the smiles – especially on
those who were successful at wetting the teachers! Students in Years 3-6 (including
our 8 years old Year 2s) should be very proud of the way they supported their houses
and participated with such enthusiasm whether it was in the competitive events or the
novelty activities. A huge congratulations to those students who did challenge
themselves and participated in the swimming events even when they lacked confidence.
Finally thank you to the staff and those parents who volunteered to assist on the day,
your help was vital to the running of the carnival. Well done to Mr Taylor who
coordinated the event. Mr Taylor will be notifying students shortly who will be
attending the Zone carnival on Feb 20th.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Harper Bradney who was selected in the U9’s State Cup Oztag side
for the Central Coast. Harper has spent the weekend competing in Coffs Harbour. His
team played 6 games, with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss to make it to the Quarter Finals.
Well done Harper, we are all very proud of you.
In class support
This year all classes will continue to have SLSO support in the classroom every day. Mrs
Melvin, our Instructional Leader, has the role of overseeing the achievement of every
student within the K-2 classrooms to ensure they are making progress. Mrs Nichols will
fulfil this role in the 3-6 classrooms in her Curriculum Leader role. Intervention such as
LaST or SLSO support or targeted programs is put into place if a student is not making
the desired progress within the desired timeframe. We are very excited to be able to
offer this support to our students as we know it will make a difference to student
learning outcomes across the school.
Have a great week!

Across the school, all classes in Years 2-6 have been learning to write
Sizzling Starts to make their writing more engaging to the reader. This is
the second step of the Seven Steps of Writing Program. Congratulations
to our first published authors for their Sizzling Starts below.
I was driving over the Harbour Bridge when 2 tsunamis came together. Brock, 2G:
"Help me!" cried the mysterious girl coming from the portal in my closet. "Who was that?" Rachel thought. She sounded like Alexis. A lot like Alexis. "Help Rachel!" There it was again. Hmm, that is interesting. "Help!" she called again. And with that, I jumped in… Kiara, 5/6S
It was too quick. The train was moving at lightning speed! My fingers slipped... I only just made it onto the platform in time! Zaiden 5/6B
"Hey! Get off me you striped beast" said the Giraffe. Isobel 2/3R Creak! Crack! Went the old house. I don’t feel too safe here. Layla 3/4S
Zing! The spaceship shot into space. We were off on our adventure. It was exciting and going to be fun. Caitlin 4/5T
Reminder for Opal Card Use
An important requirement of School Opal is the need for students to Tap On and Tap Off when they travel to and from school.
Opal data gathered by tapping on and off is used to determine demand for bus services.
If students don’t Tap on and Tap off, services may be cancelled or reduced due to the lack of recorded patronage. With this in mind, please remind students that tapping on and off at the beginning and end of each trip is one of the conditions of using a School Opal card. This in turn helps us ensure that the appropriate level of service to students.
Busways will continue to conduct boarding checks on School Opal cards over the coming months. Students without an Opal Card will be given a brochure to take home identifying how they can get an Opal Card.
