2018 NSW SECONDARY SCHOOLBOYS

TABLE TENNIS CHALLENGE CUP The State Table Tennis Challenge

Cup was held in Sydney recently

and AHS was represented by Ashley

Wurtz and Zach Van Zanten.

The boys faced both their Fort Street

and Trinity opponents in the first round and won convincingly

to progress to the second round of the competition. The

Sydney Boys team consisting of the top two players in the

state proved to be more challenging

for our boys and although they both

demonstrated a depth of talent to

compete at this level, they

unfortunately fell short of a win to

take them to the finals.

TEAM COLOURS PIE DAY On Tuesday 19 June, the Year 12 Work Studies class

conducted a fundraiser to raise money for Country Hope.

After weeks of preparation and planning students

successfully set up a ‘Team Colours Pie Day’ in which they

were able to raise $270.

The Year 12 students involved would like to say a big thank

you to everyone who participated in the event and donated to

this worthy cause. In particular a huge thank you to Coles for

donating the food.

The Year 12 Work Studies class would also like to thank the

hospitality staff for helping them with preparing the event on

the day.

Out of over 200,000 participants world-wide, Jane Stenson of

Year 11 ranked 560th with 10,240 points and an Elite Award!

She has received a $30 iTunes voucher and a German flag

bag for her remarkable effort! Matthew Green and Poy

iTunes voucher, whilst Maya Salinger achieved a Silver

Award and Georgina LaFontaine and Ryan Yensch both

achieved Bronze Awards, all being awarded $10 iTunes gift

vouchers. Ambrose Mills, Thomas Salinger and Meghan

earning over 500 points each!

Congratulations to all of our hard-working students who

to the many languages of the world in this competition, and

who are striving to become better connected global

citizens!

OPEN BOYS HOCKEY GALA DAY On Tuesday 26 June, Albury High School attended the

annual Open Boys Hockey Gala day extravaganza. Usually

only public schools like James Fallon High School, Murray

High School, Corowa High School and ourselves play in the

tournament. This year the competition included Xavier High

School, Scots School Albury, James Fallon High School,

Murray High School and Albury High School. The gala day

was run as a round robin, with each school playing against

each other at least once and the games having two 15

minute halves.

The first game that AHS played was against Murray High

School, and the game ended with us coming out with an 8

nil victory, Goal Scorers: Ryley Walker 4, Oscar Smart 2,

Aiden Kane 1 and Kevin Innes 1. Kevin played an

outstanding game and led us very well, controlling the

tempo of the game and setting us up for the rest of the

competition.

Our second game was a fun match played against a young

Scots School squad, with them putting up a strong fight

against our experienced side. The back line was controlled

extremely well by the likes of Oscar Dean and Oscar

Delmenico keeping the Scots attack goalless, and without a

shot on goal during the entire match. The backline pressure

allowed for the forwards to run rampant, conceding many

penalties, but unable to convert any. The final outcome of

the rivalry was a 2 - nil win to AHS. Goal scorers: Ryley

Walker 1, and Oscar Smart 1, with the best players for AHS

being our full backs, Oscar and Oscar.

Game three was played against Xavier High School. This

match was played in a tip-top manner, with great

sportsmanship from both sides prominent throughout the

day. The competition was fierce, with young gun Thomas

Kilby putting in the first goal of the match right before half

time to give Albury the advantage into the break. Two quick

goals from Xavier High School put the pressure back on the

AHS side as soon as the whistle blew (or didn’t blow), taking

the score to 2 to 1, with AHS down and 7 minutes until the

final hooter. Great stick skill from Oscar Smart through the

middle levelled the playing field, before Nikko Kilby put in the

game winner seconds before the game finished. End result 3 -

2 AHS’s way.

The deciding game of the day was played between AHS and

James Fallon High School. The game was played out with

another dominant victory to AHS with the end score being 3 to

nil. Standouts for this game were Thomas Kilby, Mitchell Nash

and Kevin Innes.

Congratulations to the boys for an extraordinary effort

throughout the day, remaining undefeated and only conceding

two goals throughout the competition. Big thanks to the five

Year 12 students who stood up and made the time to come

down and represent the school. Also a big thanks to

Mr Peters for coaching the boys and Mr Morrison for

organising a fabulous event. The next match for the

Combined High Schools Hockey Knockouts will be played in

Albury with the team we play unknown as of yet.

YEAR 12 CHARITY TRIVIA NIGHT On Wednesday 5 July the Year 12 Charity Committee

organised a trivia night to raise money for Border Cystic

Fibrosis.

With over 200 participants braving the cold, the evening was a

success raising over $2500, a tribute to the hard work and

organisation of the Year 12 Charity Committee.

The night resulted in a five-way tie which was broken after two

extra rounds resulting in a table of Year 11 students proving

their trivia knowledge over other students, families and staff.

A huge thank you goes to the sponsors who provided prizes

for the night.

As part of the Year 12 Charity Committee’s ongoing

fundraising efforts for the Border Cystic Fibrosis group, they

are continuing to collect any cans and bottles for recycling.

Bins are located around the school or alternatively recyclable

bottles and cans can be delivered to the school.
