A Message From Fr. Mateus

Hello everyone! Hope everybody is enjoying these wonderful warm days of

August. I’m certainly entertaining myself this summer by trying to learn how to

golf. As you can imagine I s ll need to slow down my back swing, keep my eyes

on the ball and stop slicing in every drive. I’m lucky for finding in our Parish three

courageous and very pa ent men who are helping me with this impossible task.

Luckily they believe in miracles!

In this Sunday’s gospel, Jesus calls us to store up treasure in heaven, “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” It is easy to get caught up in the things of this world. We can become consumed with our belongings, the pursuit of success, our jobs, and many other things on this earth. But none of this will ma er in the end.

Life is short and we cannot take our belonging with us when we die. All that ul mately ma ers is whether or not we have trusted in the Lord. No one knows when the Lord will return. It could be today, tomorrow, or hundreds of years from now. Whether it is during our life me or not, we s ll will all meet the Lord at our death. Will we be ready for that encounter? Will we die in faith?

We must prepare ourselves now, for later might be too late. Faith, therefore, is not something we should put off. It can be easy to think something like, “I’ll be more serious about my faith later when I have more me to devote to it,” or, “I’ll prac ce my faith more regularly once I’ve go en a few other things in order in my life.” But there may not be a later. For we never know when it is me for us to meet the Lord, whether through His return or our death. Will you be prepared to meet him when your me comes? What needs to change in your life to be ready for that encounter?

Someone once told me that Heaven is a big golf course. So I be er learn now and be ready for when my me comes!

On a different note, even though some may s ll have some concerns with the pandemic, here at St. Cecilia’s we are ready to begin the next phase of our reopening. We had a very successful mee ng with our catechists this past week regarding our Religious Program. The catechists are op mis c and confident that we can resume classes safely. There are s ll some discussions we need to have, especially with the parents, before we make the final decision. However, it’s comfor ng to know that we have a wonderful group of dedicated parishioners who are so prompted to con nue the very important task of forma on and evangeliza on of our children.

Deacon Bob and I are also organizing a mee ng with our Eucharis c Ministers and Lectors for the end of this month where we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist together and also discuss the possibility of resum-ing their ministry in September.

This might be a wonderful opportunity for you to consider serving in one of these extremely important ministries. Please approach me at any me if you would like to know more about the ministries of Lector, Eucharis c Minister or Catechism and what these ministries entail.

May God bless you always.

Fr. Mateus.

The Sympathies of the parish community are extended to the family and friends of

Lois A. Ayers and Julia E. Sullivan whose Funeral Services were held recently.

Please remember them in your prayers.

Collection Report (includes online donations) - 8/2 Weekly Stewardship $7,433.16 Your continued support of our Parish is greatly needed and deeply appreciated.

2020 Partners in Charity….Envision Faith in Action!

Thank you to those who made a gift and a special thank you for those who gave for the first time. Your gift will help us in reaching our parish goal. To date we have raised $37,356. However, we need the support of all members of St. Cecilia Parish if we are to be successful in reaching our parish goal of $50,000. If you have not yet made a gift or pledge text giving is hands down the easiest and most secure way to give. If you know how to send a text message, you can make a gift to Partners in Charity in seconds on your phone. Best yet, our parish St. Cecilia will receive credit! Text the word donate to 84576. You can also make your gift by filling out a commitment pledge envelope which you can pickup on the table by the church entrance or visit partners-charity.net. Thank you for your continued support!

One very grateful recipient who would not be able to assist so many if it weren’t for Partners in Charity.

Praying together with our Homebound Catholics

I'm Ray Delisle, Director of Communications, and we have brought the Daily Mass and Sunday Mass on TV for more than 35 years and on the internet for nearly a decade. Our priests who have celebrated this Mass always tell me that people stop them all the time to thank them for the Mass! This ministry continues to be a Godsend during this pandemic, and on behalf of all the homebound, thank you for supporting Partners in Charity!

The Joseph P. Keating Council #99 Knights of Columbus will be holding a Chicken BBQ Sunday, August 23rd from Noon until 2pm. Take out only. Tickets are $10 each and are available at the Council at 165 Electric Ave. Fitchburg, advance sales only. Menu will consist of a Quarter Chicken Breast, Baked Potato, Corn on the Cob and Pasta Salad. All proceeds will benefit the Knights Charities.

Since the pandemic we are growing accustom to doing things a little differently. Instead of our RCIA Catechumens receiving their sacraments at the Easter Vigil. On July 19th we celebrated with them in their journey for a deeper spiritual relationship with the Trinity (God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.) Charlotte Waitkus and Matthew Wright continued their journey by receiving the sacraments of Communion and Confirmation. Melinda Buckley, William Holden and Lindsey Johnson continued their journey by receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. Congratulations to our catechumens! Top Row: Fr. Mateus Souza Middle Row: Matthew Wright, Charlotte Waitkus & William Holden Bottom Row: Lindsey Johnson & Melinda Buckley May the gifts of the Holy Spirit help you to be disciples with Jesus in your communities (church, family, friends, etc.) and in your choices in life

catechumens!

A Prayer in Time of Pandemic O God, whose Only Begotten Son bore the weight of human suffering for our salvation, hear the prayers of your Church for our sick brothers and sisters and deliver us from this time of trial. Open our ears and our hearts to the voice of your Son: Be not afraid, for I am with you always. Bless all doctors and nurses, researchers and public servants; give us the wisdom to do what is right and the faith to endure this hour, that we might gather once again to praise your name in the heart of your Church, delivered from all distress and confident in your mercy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

19th Sunday of Ordinary Time - Gospel Reflection

“He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.” (Matthew 14:29)

When you hear Jesus calling, do you respond immediately and trust that He knows what He’s doing? If so, you are walking on water! When we say “yes” to Jesus, we feel the power of His presence in our lives. We can feel the freedom it gives us! Listen to how Jesus is calling you to live the extraordinary life He has intended for you.
