MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA February 23-25, 1978

ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS The workshop will include invited and contributed papers.

INVITED PAPERS: Sessions will be held in each of the following general areas:

1. Large Scale Computers and Traditional Applied Mathematics

II. Optimization Ill. Stochastic Modeling - Graphical Representations IV. Finite Mathematics - Cryptography and

Combinatorial Optimization In each session, two outstanding representatives - an applied mathematician and an engineer - will speak on a common topic. The engineer will describe current problems, tech- niques, constraints, difficulties and trends, while the mathe- matician will present recent developments that are useful or show promise. These initial presentations will lead to discus- sions on other topics by principal speakers and participants from the audience. Included among the invited speakers are: H. Keller (CALTECH), C. Newton (UCLA), V. Klee (Univer- sity of Washington), J. McKenna (Bell Labs), L. Bruckner (ERDA), A. Konheim (IBM), and H. Chernoff (MIT).

CONTRIBUTED PAPERS: Authors are invited to submit papers in engineering or applied mathematics with abstracts of not more than one page, double-spaced, including title. Closing date for abstracts ;s January 1, 1978. Notice of accep- tance will be mailed about January 15, 1978. Participation in the workshop is open. Registration Fee: $40 (Includes copy of Workshop Proceedings).
