David Baine, EdD, Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta, has worked as an educational consultant in various developing countries. He has published extensively on curriculum design and instruction in developing countries. One of his recent publications is Baine, D., Handicapped children in developing countries: Assessment, curriculum and instruction, Edmonton, Alberta: Educational Psychology, University of Alberta.

Cathy Kaufman (PhD University of Pittsburgh, Administrative and Policy Studies in International Development Education) is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her writing and research interests center on social and educational analysis, particularly in desovietizing arenas. She has applied organizational theory to the analysis of relationships between reform policy, community culture, and the school setting in established and emerging democracies.

Marion Kloep studied pedagogics and psychology in Aachen (Germany) and now teaches psychology at the University of Ostersund. Her research interests are mainly in the area of working conditions, and child psychology.

F.G.W. Msiska (BEd Malawi, MEd and PhD Bristol, UK) is a lecturer in and head of the Educational Foundations Department of the University of Malawi. He has published articles on school-leaver unemployment in Malawi in the International Journal of Educational Development and elsewhere. His fields of interest are youth employment/unemployment, education and development, sociology of education and comparative education.

Michael Bwalsom Musa, having trained to teach at the University of Ibadan, holds a BA (Ed) in adult education (Lagos), MEd in adult education and community development (Manchester) and PhD in adult education and extension education (Lagos). He lectures in non-formal education, community/rural development educa- tion and literacy education at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. Previously he was responsible for adult and continuing education services in a number of centres.

Philemon A.K. Mushi, PhD MA (Ed), B.Ed, has been a primary school teacher and headteacher, a tutor at Folk Development Colleges, and an assistant resident tutor at the Tanzanian Institute of Adult Education. He joined the Faculty of Education of the University of Dar es Salaam in 1986, where he is now a Senior Lecturer. His areas of interest are the history and philosophy of adult education, and the psychology of adult learning and research.

Tuntufye S. Mwamwenda, BA (Spicer), MSc (Ed) (NY), MA (Ottawa), PhD (Alberta) is Dean of the Faculty of Education and Head of the Department of Educational Foundations at Transkei University. He has published extensive research on the intellectual development of African children. One of his recent publications is Mwamwenda, T.S. Educational Psychology: An African Perspective, Durban: Butterworths.

Fatos Tarifa studied philosophy and sociology, and teaches both subjects at the University of Tirana. At the same time he is the head of the newly founded Sociological Research Centre. His research centres on family sociology, with an emphasis on the role of women in society and on youth problems.
