PRESIDENTS COLUMN
President’s Column
It is 2017 already! What happened to 2016? I hope all our members & their families had a happy & safe Christmas/New Year break & are healthy for the com-
ing year.
Our club saw out the year in style. Full marks to Joy & Kerry for organising the Allegro’s Christmas Lunch in late November. It really was top notch. Also a
big THANK YOU to all our members who brought a plate to the December meeting. There was a fascinating array of delicious food available for sampling.
The AGM is fast approaching. Nominations for the new committee need to be handed to the Secretary (Kris Pannah) no later than Close of the meeting on 3rd
February 2017. Nomination forms are available in this newsletter, on our website and hard copies will be at the February meeting. The positions are: Vice Pres-
ident, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership & Welfare Officer, Event Co-Ordinator, Speaker Co-Ordinator, Newsletter Editor & Public Officer. There are a few
positions where the incumbent is moving on so that they will need filling, so why not take the opportunity to contribute & have your say? Feel free to speak to
me or any other committee member if you want more details. And YES, we will shanghai if necessary!
Life needs to proceed & as we shake off the Summer slow down, the Committee & Interest Group Leaders are hard at work organising a diverse range of out-
ings for you over the next few months. In particular, the multi-day trips are proving popular. The next Caravan & Camping trip is fully booked & the Life of
Riley & Uluru tours are proving very popular. Planned outings are featured both in the Newsletter & on the website.
Just a reminder that with the AGM in March comes the annual renewal of membership. This year we have simplified the form for easy completion. Yes, it is a
PSPL requirement. Also, get your payment to Trevor by EFT, cash or cheque at your earliest convenience.
I hope to catch you at a function or meeting soon.
Regards,
Allan

THEATRE REPORT—THE ACCUSED
If only jury duty was really like this, we would all be volunteering to do our duty on a very regular basis. We arrived at The Pavilion Theatre, Castle Hill, on 7th December to be greeted by a delightful spread and glasses of bubbles. A wide range of delightful finger food had been prepared by Kerrie and Lee and presented in a very professional manner. Other audience members were very impressed when they arrived and joined in, thinking wow—what a great theatre this is.
Then we were summoned into the courtroom (theatre) where we all sworn in as Jury Members and made aware of the importance of listening to all the evidence presented in the murder trial. It was a very interesting ordeal and after the De-fence and Prosecution presented their final arguments we all voted guilty or not guilty. The votes were counted and the Judge declared the verdict—Guilty. We were then left with the final segment showing us that the wrong person had been convicted. Perhaps, in true Jeffrey Archer style there would always be a twist.
DECEMBER MEETING (PARTY)
The December meeting was short and sweet—very sweet with cakes, slices and cookies, savoury goodies and fruit—all do-nated by members was enjoyed by everyone. Two special guests arrived bearing small jars of lollies for all, so a big thankyou to Santa and his special Elf helper. It was a fun way to finish the year and to spread some Christmas cheer.
Decadent Day Trippers -2016– Year in Review
2016 was a full year with 10 outings attracting 214 attendees – that averages just over 21 per outing with the most pop-
ular (32) being our ferry trip to Davistown. Our best rollup ever was 38 for the tour of Sydney Town Hall!
We did spread ourselves around the greater Sydney area in 2016 with two visits to each of the Blue Mountains, the
Central Coast & Sydney CBD with one visit each to the Hills District, Nepean area, Northern Beaches & the
(Sutherland) Shire. As the Beach Boys sang: “We get around!”. We travelled by bus, train & lots of ferries – Central
Coast (sadly not OPAL friendly), Lady class, Manly & Rivercat.
For the first time, we joined with another Interest Group & for a day we became the Decadent Cheese & Wine Day-
Trippers. We also managed to find some interesting but well hidden spots around Sydney. Despite not visiting the Bald
Archies this year, we still managed to have an artie theme with visits to Aboriginal art (Gymea), Streetscapes
(Katoomba) & a Panorama (Glenbrook). We also had many walks – along waterways, around Cockatoo Island or just
through suburbia. We also visited a cultural centre & who can forget sampling Sake? Also, closer to home, we toured
the North West Rail Link construction sites.
To sustain us on our journeys we ate in four clubs, four hotels, a café & a private residence. We also stumbled upon one
of the finer pie shops Australia has to offer (in Glenbrook).
We will be back in 2017 looking for good value OPAL destinations that are also represent one of Sydney’s hidden
gems. Please feel free to join us.
WALKING GROUP
The Walking Group elected to cancel their scheduled walk in December due to the distinct possibility of 35+C temperatures. Instead we all congregated at Lee and Stephen’s and had a great lunch and afternoon of comradery. The Walking Group will resume once temperatures cool down, probably April.
