Question for Adults: As you prepare to re-welcome Christ into your heart while you prepare for Christmas, what does Isaiah call you to do? What does Isaiah call us as a people to do? - Lifelong Catechesis

Musical Notations - New Years Transitions
Well, here we are again! We conclude another liturgical year with the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe and transition into Advent with the readings for Year A. In the new missals, you will find the order of the Mass in front (as we do in the Breaking Bread Missal) with years A, B, & C readings grouped together by year letter. Music appropriate for the season is located in the back of the missal, as well as various Mass settings. You'll be seeing these new missals next week!
Christus Vincit is heralded at the choir Mass this weekend for the Solemnity. It first existed as a chant, and there have been a number of motet settings throughout the centuries.
More on the missals & Advent next week. On behalf of the Music Ministry, we wish you & your families a wonderful, bounteous Thanksgiving! Praise God through whom all blessings flow!
Until next time… Lauren Walters

The Catholic Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation has three elements: conversion, confession and celebration. In it, we find God's unconditional forgiveness, and as a result we are called to forgive others.
In this sacrament, the outward sign is the absolution, or forgiveness of sins, that the priest grants to the penitent (the person confessing his or her sins); the inward grace is the reconciliation of the penitent to God.
To receive the sacrament worthily, three things are required of the penitent: • To be contrite—or, in other words, sorry for his or her sins. • To confess those sins fully, in kind and in number. • To be willing to do penance and make amends for his or her sins. Since Advent is a time for preparation, Penance and Reconciliation helps make us ready in mind, heart and soul for the coming of Christ, which we will soon celebrate in the Mass of Christmas.
All are invited to participate in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation at the parish Penance and Reconciliation Service held this Advent
Sunday, 4 Dec 2016 at 3 pm
Sixteen (16) priest confessors will be available to you for your convenience to reduce wait times. To prepare yourself, please take some time out prior to attending the Penance and Reconciliation Service to examine your conscious.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe -
KINGSHIP
The book of Samuel recounts for us today the anointing of David as king of Israel. It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus
mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings.
The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly monarchs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King. And lastly, we hear the story of that true King in perhaps his weakest moment: near death, hanging on a cross, taunted by a common criminal and by the world at large.. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch
Advent begins next Sunday, 27 November!
Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord!!
The word Advent itself means coming. Advent signifies the coming of Jesus in Bethlehem, Jesus’ future coming at the end of the world, and his present coming in the hearts of all people who desire him. The Council of Tours in 567 set aside a time before Christmas when people could prepare themselves physically, mentally, and spirituality to celebrate the Incarnation: God loves us so much that God was willing to “dwell among us” as a human being. What a lift for all humanity! And, without the Incarnation we could not expect either the crucifixion or the Resurrection, i.e., our salvation!

Quovadis… My Dear Parishioners:
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King of the Universe. The good thief asked, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” This Solemnity celebrates Christ as King, his kingdom has come. We are living in God’s kingdom now. But we are called not to simply pay homage to our exalted King, but to do as he did. This means that each day we must live in self-sacrifice because only through the cross is God’s reign at hand. Living the paschal mystery means living the cross. Just as the cross was the means to Jesus’ exaltation, so is the cross the means to our own entry into Paradise. When self-sacrifice seems to swallow us up and we are tempted to choose a self-serving attitude, all we need to do is remember that the cross is THE door to Paradise…THE only way.
Thanksgiving Day is observed this week. As Roman Catholics we give thanks each and every time we celebrate the Eucharist. Being a thankful people is so essential to being a Christian Community. May we continue to cultivate in our lives and in the lives of our children and young people an attitude of gratitude. Please join us for the Annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service being hosted by The Colts Neck Reformed Church this year. The homilist will be our very own Deacon Fred Sorrentino. Details are in the bulletin. Also, come to Mass Thanksgiving Day Morning at 9 am so that, together as a community of faith, we can give thanks and praise to Almighty God for the many blessings we have received in our lives, most especially the great gift of faith. Many thanks to all those who have participated in our Thanksgiving Food Drive and all those who
coordinated our efforts as well as those who generously delivered these food items.
The Liturgical Season of Advent begins next weekend. It is the beginning of a new Liturgical Year. This coming week our parish church buildings, office and exterior sites will begin to be prepared for the Advent-Christmas Seasons. It is a great task requiring much time, energy and cooperation. It is very important for us to include parishioners, new and experienced, in completing these essential tasks. I hope that we will be willing to invite and welcome young adults and families to receive the mantle of responsibility for some of these aspects of parish life. It is in this way that they continue to learn from some of our long term parishioners all of the details of preparing for the various liturgical seasons. It is wonderful to experience this passing on of the customs, traditions and pride that characterize our Catholic Community. It is one of our more immediate goals to put in place a way for us to learn the interests of our parishioners and to assist them in their desire to share Time & Talent in our parish.
As the pace begins to pick up in preparation for the Solemnity of Christmas, make sure that you are pro-active in providing for your spiritual preparation. Make time to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation (confession). Our Penance Service is scheduled for Sunday 4 December 2016 at 3 pm in our parish church. I will be joining my family in southern Maryland for Thanksgiving Day this year. My brother and his family will be hosting us. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
