Blessed Lord, accept this burning candle as a sign of my faith and love for You.

Like this candle, I am ready to be used in your service without asking why and to what

purpose. Even as this candle, I wish to stand in Your presence and to be consumed in the light and warmth of our Love. Please hear my prayer

and, if it is Your will, grant my petition. But above all, make me loyal and faithful to You in

CHRISTIMAS GIFT CARD OUTREACH FOR THOSE IN NEED! We will be collecting gift cards for the needy of the parish and organi-zations in our area. This will be in place of the Angel/Giving Tree. Gift cards to Giant Eagle, Walmart, Target, Kohls, Shop ‘n Save, or Amazon can be donated in the collection basket or mailed or dropped off to the parish office. Last year we helped over 1000 folks with gifts. This year will be a little different because of Covid-19. Each week we will highlight some of the organizations that will receive the gift cards.

BRENTWOOD FOOD PANTRY - They service over 150 families. They asked us to provide gift cards for 60 families. These are local families that receive help with food and household supplies on a monthly basis. These folks would really appreciate some help during these try-ing times.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL FAMILIES - We had 300 requests for help in the past year. They need help with rent, utilities, furniture and food. There are many people out of work and in need that would appreciate a gift card for the holidays. Thanking you in advance for your generous support of the Blessed Trinity Christmas Outreach!

THANKSGIVING COLLECTION FOR LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR A collection will be taken up at all of the Masses on Thanksgiving Day and the weekend following Thanksgiving for the Sisters. All loose money and any dona-tions sent into the office will be given to the Little Sisters of the Poor. The Sisters minister to the elderly and the poor of the community. Please help the Sisters and be as generous as you are able. Thank you.

TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY.

Thoughts from Father Bob, A KING LIKE NO OTHER: The Feast of Christ the King was established by the Church to end the Liturgical cycle because the world had grown accustomed to despots and tyrants as leaders. It was the time of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, and many other dictators and one of the ways to confront this evil and the horrors these men inspired was to return to the Scriptures and proclaim that the only true and eternal king was Jesus, who when questioned by Pilate “are you a king” responded by saying “My kingdom is not of this world.” We know that Jesus also assured us that his kingdom secretly enter this world but will only be defini-tively established when all the kingdoms of this world have been subjected to His father and He is proclaimed as Lord and King forever. Israel began as a people without a king. God guided them with his prophets. They rejected God’s love for them and wanted a king like everyone else and so God gave them Saul who was unfaithful and then David, who although heroic was a great sinner. The fortunes and misfortunes of Israel go back and forth through the history of the chosen people until they become subject to Rome and Caesar. As the Leaders of Israel in the time of Pilate claimed, “We have no king but Caesar! It was Pilate who unwittingly and with sarcasm acknowledged that Jesus was “King of the Jews!” Throughout history there have been many kings and queens. Some were good but many were wicked. At one point they considered themselves “appointed by God with divine rights. Like many who violate the first command-ment and think of themselves as a god whose willful ex-pressions are all that matters many of these kings and queens brought destruction and death to their citizens. They forgot the words that Saint Augustine said, “with you

I am a Christian and for you I am a Bishop.” Rather than govern for the good of the people they only considered their own benefit and happiness. As our King, Jesus revealed his power and authority on the cross. He stated that when he was lifted up he would draw all people to himself. He did not grasp at the riches of this world but taught us that true happiness comes when he lays down his life for others. On the cross he was accompanied by two criminals, one on his left and the other on his right. They represented all mankind, who through sinners are redeemed and forgiven by God. Jesus tells them what all of us hope to hear, “today you will be with me in para-dise.” Rather than moving about freely, Jesus is fixed to the cross so that the hands that blessed the feet that took him through Judea and Galilee are restrained. Despite his immobility on the cross, Jesus continues to bless and for-give the multitude who stand before him. His crown is not made of gold and precious gems but of thorns that press against his scalp and cause him to bleed for us. He wears this crown for those who are unclear in their thinking, plan evil against others, and refuse to obey God’s commands. His message is “your kingdom come, your will be done” because he reveals the true nature and purpose of humani-ty. We were made to be God’s children and Jesus helps us to achieve our true destiny. His side is pierced to reveal a heart open for us, his blood poured forth to wash away our sins and as a sign that he has given his all to us. This is not a king who grasps at his divinity but empties himself for those who believe in him. He is no tyrant but a loving, gracious and life-giving God. Other kings and rulers come and go, some are considered good and others bad, some forgotten and others remembered, but our King is eternal and shares his eternal kingdom with us. Today we pray, Long live Christ our King!

On Veteran’s day we celebrated St. Martin of Tours. He was a Roman soldier who later joined the Catholic church and became a bish-op. One cold winter day he was entering a city. A beggar stopped him and asked for alms. Martin had no money; but the beggar

was blue and shivering with cold. Martin gave what he had. He took off his soldier’s cloak, worn and frayed as it was. He cut it in two and gave half of it to the beggar. That night he had a dream. In it he saw the heavenly places and all the angels and Jesus in the midst of them; and Jesus was wearing half of a Roman soldier’s cloak. One of the angels said to him, “Master, why are you wearing that battered old cloak? Who gave it to you?” Jesus answered softly, “My servant Martin gave it to me.” This speaks to our parable in today’s Gospel of the judging the sheep and goats. Jesus is looking for those who give from a loving heart. Those who give in a natural, instinctive way, quite uncalculating. It is helping in simple ways; a meal to the hungry, comfort-ing the sick, giving a thirsty person a drink. Jesus tells us that this kind of giving and helping is giving and helping him, and withholding these simple things are withholding them from Jesus himself. When we learn generosity in the simple things without calculation, we too will know the joy of helping Jesus Christ himself. “…insomuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. Enter into the kingdom prepared for you.”

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA Cub Scouts Pack 326 is selling spon-sorships for wreaths as part of the Wreaths Across America program.

The wreaths are placed on veterans' head-stones at participating National cemeteries across the country, in Puerto Rico, at sea and abroad. We will be helping to place wreaths locally on Saturday, December 19th, at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Washington County. We have set a goal of 150 wreaths. To sponsor a wreath and help us reach our goal, please visit our website: pack326.org/wreaths. Thank you!

When I was 15 I had an awkward moment in church when an American priest called Fr. Peter Rookey called me up to join him on the altar as he thought I was also a priest. Even though I was at the very back what was re-markable was that he was at the age of 8 blinded by a 4th of July firework. Fr. Rookey did regain his sight despite the doctor saying there had been “irreparable damage’. He accredited his healing to his mom saying the rosary each evening until his sight returned. I can testify to him having really good eye sight. He was believed to have the “Charism of healing”. This is the miracle prayer he encouraged us to say.

The Miracle Prayer Lord Jesus, I come before you, just as I am, I am sorry for my sins, I repent of my sins, please forgive me. In

your Name, I forgive all others for what they have done against me. I renounce Satan, the evil spirits and all their

works. I give you my entire self, Lord Jesus, now and forever. I invite you into my life, Jesus. I accept you as

my Lord, God and Savior. Heal me, change me, strength-en me in body, soul, and spirit.

Come Lord Jesus, cover me with your Precious Blood, and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I love you Lord Jesus. I

praise you Jesus. I thank you Jesus. I shall follow you every day of my life. Amen.

Mary, My Mother, Queen of Peace, St. Peregrine, the cancer saint, all the Angels and Saints, please help me.

Amen.

Say this prayer faithfully, no matter how you feel. When you come to the point where you sincerely mean each word with all your heart, Jesus will change your whole life in a very special way. You will see! Prayer © 1993 Peter M. Rookey and Servite Fathers, O.S.M.

THE LADIES OF CHARITY organiza-tion is alive and well. The Transition Team meets monthly. Due to Covid, many mem-bers are working "behind the scenes" on various ministries. Several of the food ser-vice activities are doing well. The ministry for sympathy cards and birthday cards, plus calls to shut-ins are ongoing. Various other people have been helped with their particular needs. Also, members are working with Social Ministry and Senior Outreach for needs dur-ing the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. The members look forward to the day when general meetings can be held and more people can be involved. Important notice: All members must have their dues and hours in by December 1st. Make the dues check payable to Blessed Trinity Parish with a clear ex-planation that it is for Ladies of Charity. For questions call Marty 412-885-4272 or Helene 412-882-8677.
