Bazaar 2015

This year, a school bazaar fund raising project was held at our school grounds on the 5th of September 2015. Maktab Nasional collaborated with her sister school, Taska & Tadika Datuk Simon Fung, in organizing this event.

Thank you to the DJs for entertaining the crowd with their musical selection and karaoke sessions that day.

The annual Uniform Bodies Camp was held at Shittim Camp in Tamparuli on the 28th, 29th and 30th of August. The camp was attended by 70 students and 17 teachers. The objective for this yearly camp is to instil moral values and to create team spirits among the participants.

The 3-day camp was heavily scheduled with various activities. On the first day, we had Station Games. We were divided into groups of 10. Each groups was assigned to complete a set of 12 tasks such as Balancing Beam, Tar-zan Swing, Spider Web, 10 – Feet Wall and Army Crawl. In the evening, we had a delicious barbeque.

Next day, we had jungle trekking. Equipped with a compass and some ropes, we bounced through thick forests, climbed up steep hills, pranced through plantation fields and crawled on hanging bridges. It was a tedious yet ex-citing trekking. Upon arrival at our destination, we had to build fire and used it to cook our own lunch. After a hearty meal, we took a dip in the nearby river. That night, after our Cultural Segment, we were taught how to tie ropes and set up tents.

We had a competition on the third and final day. Each group set up a campsite using only the materials provided. Marks were based on the strength, creativity and neatness. All groups managed to build tents and some even made campfires. Before departing, we teamed up to clean the place and took many group photos.

The friendship, experience and knowledge gained during the camp are priceless. I believe that all of us who were there at the camp would never forget such an educational and fun-filled camp in the years to come.

The long awaited Prom Night 2015 was held on the 21st September at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort, Kota Kinabalu. The organizing committee, the MN Student Council 2015, under the leadership of the Chief Minister Mr. Kevyn Lee, had worked together to make the prom night possible. The program was advertised through posters many weeks before the actual date.

Maktab Nasional Prom Night is a formal party to celebrate the Form 5 students who are in their last year in our school. This party is meant to give them the opportunity to have memorable time with each other as well as their juniors.

There were more than 80 students and teach-ers who attended the party that evening. They came in their best attires and some chose to come with dates.

Thanks to the MC, Ameerjeet Singh Chahal, for making the prom night alive and fun. Be-low is the list of students who were awarded with the honorary titles.

I, Trevor from Form 4 Modesty, registered for two competitions. In the Modern Piano Higher Level, I won the Championship title. Whereas in the Baroque/Classical Piano Higher Level, I was the 1st Runner Up.

The judge for both categories was Mr. Loo Bang Hean, a famous Ma-laysian concert pianist.

Earlier, on the 25th to the 27th of June 2015, I also had the privilege to attend the RTM-UMS Orchestra Workshop conducted by University Malaysia Sabah and Radio Televi-sion Malaysia’s Performers.

On Sunday, the 4th of October, I joined the Borneo Performing Arts Festival 2015 at Shangri-la Tanjung Aru Resort, Kota Kina-balu.

practice in between was the main item on the first day. The second day was largely spent for practice and a full rehearsal for the final concert that took place the follow-ing day.

The concert was indeed a great success. It was attended by more than 1,000 music enthusiasts from all over Sabah and was aired on RTM News.

It was my first experience playing in an orchestra conducted by

YBhg. Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, the famous Malaysian Jazz Pianist and Conductor. Musically, I feel I am one step closer to my dream after attending the workshop. Trevor Alvin Yaacob (4 Modesty)
