Assumption Mass August 15th The Solemnity of the Assumption is a holy day of oppor-tunity--obligation. But because it falls on a Monday this year the obligation to worship at Mass is lifted for this year. In the hope that more can celebrate the awesome mystery of God assuming Mary body and soul into Heav-en, Mass will be in the evening at 6pm at St. Bernard with the praying of the Rosary at 5:40pm. This will be the only Mass for the Assumption. Where Mary has gone before us, we with burning hope long to go. Come cele-brate that God's love dwarfs our sin for all who like Mary are open to it!

“IT IS SO GOOD TO BE HERE.” Dear Parishioners,

We begin a series of reflections by parishioner catechists who have invested/are in the process of investing 90 hours of training to more effectively lead our children to Jesus in our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Program. Some have already taught and some will begin teaching this year. It’s inspiring!

“The Atrium is a place of prayer, in which work and study spontaneously become meditation, contempla-tion, and prayer.” (Characteristics of CGS, #3)

One of my favorite moments as a catechist in the Level I Atrium happened last year while teaching the 3-6 year olds. All of the children had chosen a work, and there was a beautiful peace and stillness throughout the Atrium. Then little Sophia looked up from her work, smiled happily, and with a contended sigh whispered, “It is so good to be here.”

I’ve been a Guide for the 3-6 year olds in the Level I Atri-um for the past 2 years and have loved every moment and am currently in training for Level II. I’m so excited for the children to experience a Level II Atrium!

Level I children have an openness to hearing about God’s love for them. They absorb this reality and respond to it with genuine and heartfelt enthusiasm. Everything in the Level I Atrium is created for them to further deepen this bond, to inspire the children to fall even deeper in love with Jesus.

As the children progress to Level II, they are now ready to start asking the big questions and exploring the beautiful truth of our Faith. They begin to think about God in rela-tion to time and space and as the Creator of all of creation and to ponder their role in His creation. Intense prepara-tion for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion takes place during Level II, a time where the children delve deeply into the infinite mystery of God and His great gifts of love for us.

In my training, I’ve learned that it’s ideal to have the “help of a priest who is attentive to the children…and works in harmony with the spirit of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.” (Characteristics of CGS, #31) How blessed we are to have Fr. Gregory, who is so involved, committed, and passionate for not only CGS but for our entire faith for-mation program. What a gift! We are so blessed!

Please do pray for our St. Bernard and Ascension Faith Formation Program. For the children and their families. For the catechists, volunteers, and for Father Gregory. For all of us as a community to fall deeper in love with the Good Shepherd and then to share His love with others.

In the love of the Good Shepherd,

Tamara Lemmer

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Saturday: 4:15-4:45 pm

July 24th Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

For those facing serious illness: May they be comforted by God’s love through the support of

family, friends, and the local community; We pray to the Lord:

JUBILEE OF MERCY Pope Francis asks us to “live this Year in the light of

the Lord’s words: ‘Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful (cf. Lk 6:36)’”.

Participate throughout the year by making a pilgrimage to a Holy Door at the Cathedral of Saint Paul or Basilica of Saint Mary, regularly receiving

the sacrament of Reconciliation, performing corporal and spiritual works of mercy, and participating in the

#Mercy Works video challenge. Find additional ways to pray, learn and act at

www.archspm.org/Mercy.

Would you like to serve the Lord by assisting with Mass preparation?

We are in need of Sacristans (especially for the Saturday evening Mass). The roll of the Sacristan is to prepare the church environment, mark the li-

turgical books for the appropriate readings and pre-pare the Eucharistic vessels before each liturgy. The willingness to serve behind the scenes and

reverence for handling sacred vessels are necessary for carrying out this role. Sacristans should arrive at church 30 minutes prior to the start of Mass and will need to stay 5-10 minutes after Mass to store

the Eucharistic vessels. Training will be provided. If you would like more information or are

interested in serving in this roll, please contact Sherry Witte at

612-419-2360 or email [email protected] .

MINISTRY MEETING On Tuesday, July 26that 7:00 p.m. at

Ascension Church, there will be a meeting for all Ministry Leaders of both parishes to discuss the

current requirements for Essential 3 training for vol-unteers. If you are a Ministry Leader, your attendance at this meeting would be greatly

appreciated.
