From the pastor.. The Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time – “Blessed are those who fear the Lord” is the response to our Responsorial Psalm today. Proverbs 9:10 says “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord”. In his The Catholic Catechism, John A. Hardon, S.J. distinguishes between two kinds of fear. With servile fear, the evil dreaded is punishment, but the gift of the Holy Spirit, traditionally known as fear of the Lord is filial fear, because it is based on the selfless love of God, whom we dread to offend. Both kinds of fear may proceed from the love of God, but filial fear is par excellence inspired by perfect charity and is inseparable from divine love. Today’s first reading (Proverbs 31:10-13,19-20, 30-31) sings the praises of a good wife. It’s great to hear couples proclaim “You know, I married my best friend”. Another book of wisdom from the Old Testament – Sirach (6:5-17) speaks of true friendship. Verses 16 & 17 says “A faith-ful friend is a life-saving remedy, such as he who fears God finds; for he who fears God behaves accordingly and his friend will be like himself.” Blessed are those who fear the Lord. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! – we all have so much for which to be thankful, first and foremost to God. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. this Thursday & all are welcome. We thank the Altar Guild for the beau-tiful flowers and for always keeping the church well prepared for Mass. Next Sunday is the Solemnity of Christ the King. The readings at Mass will be taken from Ezekiel 34:11-12,15-17, 1 Corinthians: 15:20-26,28, Matthew 25: 31-46 The Rite of Acceptance – at the 10:30 Mass today, the RCIA Team will joyfully present Jesse Douglas Brooks, Daryl Wade Brown, Marsha Dawn Myers, Marisa Jordan Terraglio, Tammie Lynn Viehland and Thomas Edward Williams who are preparing to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church and receive the Sacraments of Initiations at the Easter Vigil. A baptized Catholic, Oscar Miranda Ra-mon will also be confirmed at the Easter Vigil. Summer Myers and Frankie Sue Schmeichel - because of special circumstances have or will be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. These candi-dates & the RCIA Team have been very faithful in their commitment to learning and sharing our rich deposit of faith. Delicious Spanish Food will be for sale in the Social Hall at 1:30 p.m. today. Eat in or take it to go. This fundraiser is in support of our For-ward With Christ building campaign. Preparing for Christmas – Please drop your Christmas Flowers dona-tion envelopes in any of the collections between now and Christmas. You can memorialize your contribution by listing people on the back of the envelope. More importantly – At 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4th, there will be 12 or more priests here to hear confessions. Most of them will come a distance. Mark your calendar today and plan to be here for your own spiritual good and for a better Christmas. Christmas Greetings will be sent this Friday to registered parishioners. It’s a little early, but that is because they include the early penance service. Thanks to the K of C for The Family Fully Alive pamphlet. The Forward With Christ building initiative has been a minor miracle. We had 1 million dollars in the bank and since last December have raised an additional $1, 215,387.00. We are short of our 2.5 million dol-lar goal by about $284,612.00. Another minor miracle would be if we could raise this during the last month of this year. Thanks for your sup-port. Full steam ahead! All for the honor and glory of God.
