From the pastor..

The Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time The Presence of God – in today’s first reading (1 Kings 19: 9,11-13) is not found in the traditional manifestations such as strong winds, earthquakes or fire, but rather in the tiny, whisper-ing sound of fine silence. Then in the Gospel, there is the boat of the disciples, being tossed about by the large waves and the strong winds. Sometimes we may feel like the disciples, when life tosses us around. We can’t see Jesus or the shore we’ve left or the port we seek. Out of the night and darkness, Jesus, walk-ing on the water, appears to the men. Like us, Peter cries out, “Lord save me.” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter. Jesus said “Oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?” When Jesus got into the boat, the winds died down and the disciples said “truly, you are the Son of God.” Jesus said, I am with you always, even to the end of time. So whether in the tiny, whispering sound of fine silence or out on the rough seas, Jesus is there. Make sure that He is in your boat or that you are in His boat. Tuesday, August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of the Vir-gin Mary, and a holy day of obligation. There will be a vigil Mass this Monday at 6 p.m. and a 9 a.m. Mass on Tuesday. There will not be an evening Mass on Tuesday. The readings at both Masses will be taken from Revelation 11:19, 12:1-6, 10; 1 Corinthians 15:20-27, Luke 1:39-56. After the Vigil Mass this Monday (8/14), how about dining with us at Sorrento Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant located at 1004 Crossroads Drive (in the shopping center across from McDon-ald’s). From 4 p.m. till closing and in support of our Forward with Christ building initiative, Sorrentos’ will donate 10% of our receipts to our cause. Next weekend we will observe the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Readings at Mass will be taken from: Isaiah 56:1, 6-7, Romans 11:13-15, 29-32 Matthew 15:21-28. Thank you Austin McCoy – for years, Austin has been the Head Usher at our 8 a.m. Mass. Austin has decided to return to school and will begin his studies at Western Carolina this month. We are most grateful for your dedicated service Austin and wish you the very best at the University. Please know that when you come home, you are always most welcome here.
