The reason for the get-together was to celebrate the first six months of quality training delivered locally by Southern Tipperary Skillnet which is based at Clonmel Chamber. The weather may have been very unkind but everybody was in great form and many went away with spot prizes.

John Clarke was recipient of the first Vodafone Passion for the World Around Us Award for 2008 and the award was presented to him in the Clonmel scout hall.

For the past 27 years, John Clarke has been Hon. Treasurer of Clonmel Scouts. His big delight is going away for two weeks under canvas for the annual scouts camping trip to such places as Wexford and Ballycotton.

His son, John Junior, had a heart transplant in 2006. This was a great success and he is back working as normal. Coincidentally, John Senior and his wife, Anita, have been helping to fundraise for the Irish Heart Foundation for the past 15 years. He is also a keen cyclist and was Chairman of Clonmel Cycling Club for ten years until his recent retirement.

Thanks to Abbott Vascular, the location in their boardroom and

the catering were perfect. The Mayor (Councillor Richie Molloy)

opened the proceedings with an address to the members

and Colin Henehan (Operations Director at Abbott) welcomed

everybody. The previous year’s activities were reviewed by

Declan Byrne and all present then had an opportunity to say

something about their business.
