MAZ-TASTIC NIGHT AT COMMUNITY AWARDSCongratulations to our CEO, Marilyn Keating, who was presented with a special Gravesham Civic Award for her community work and continuous support to local charities over the past 27 years.
The previous Mayor of Gravesham, Cllr Derek Sales, presented the Gravesham Community Awards at the Annual Council on 13th May. The awards are for people living or working in Gravesham who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.
Derek said: “ Presenting these awards, to amazing people who have done so much for the community, was a lovely way to end my year as Mayor of Gravesham. Well done, Marilyn”.
Gravesend’s “The Bench” Cafe, and Northfleet community gardening company “No Walls Gardens” were recognised for their work providing skills training, increasing employability, and the valuable work they do for the community at the DWP Kent Employer Partnership Awards.
Peter Scollard of No Walls said “It’s great just to be nominated for these awards - we really didn’t expect to win. We’re pleased that we’re making a noticeable difference. These awards are a great encouragement for us to keep on keeping on - and hopefully we’ll be back again next year.”

LOCAL SUSTAINABILITY FUND CONSULTATION
The Cabinet Office are consulting on a proposed sustainability fund to support effective voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations.
The fund will provide medium-sized organisations with the support they need to plan for the long term and begin to move to sustainable business models.
The fund will be open to applications in 2015 and will look particularly at supporting organisations working with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society.
The Cabinet Office are aiming to work openly on developing the fund. They want people and organisations to give their views to help design and implement it, and are interested in hearing from:
• Front-line VCSE organisations
• VCSE sector membership and infrastructure organisations
• Funders and providers of business development support to the sector
• Anyone with relevant experience or knowledge
Deadline: 24th July 2014

Confident Queen Escapes To Happiness IslandGenny Jones, The Confident Queen, and CVSNWK CEO Marilyn Keating were in Dover last weekend speaking and performing at a Big Lunch Extras event.
Marilyn gave a short but informative presentation explaining how CVS’s are a vital resource for any voluntary organisation and how we can help VCSE’s. Then Genny led the audience of social
entrepeneurs and community champions in her own inimitable style, first with singing and dancing - then with an exercise in visualising one’s own ‘Happiness Island’.
Big Lunch Extras is an Eden Project community initiative, aimed at creating real and positive social change. You can find out more, and sign up for their free events at: http://www.biglunchextras.com/

Kent County Council Combined Members
Grants The amount of money available for Kent County Council (KCC) Member grants and the application process has changed. In 2014/15, each County Councillor (Member) has £25,000 to allocate for community grants and/or highway projects.
Community Grants are available only to properly-constituted organisations (with a current bank account) for projects that benefit local communities. All projects must contribute to KCC’s priorities and represent value for money. The grant is a one-off, discrete award. There is no funding for any future costs.
Who can apply? Voluntary and community groups; societies and charities; social enterprises; parish/town councils, public sector services etc. Applications from faith groups will be considered, but must demonstrate how the project will bring wider community benefit. Grants cannot be awarded to individuals or political party groups.
Check with your local Member or Community Engagement Officer if you are unsure if your group or organisation is eligible and to find out how to apply.
Deadline: Applications can be made until March 2015 or until the funding is spent, whichever comes first.
