Parents are most welcome to come along. Congratulations to all our students who competed in the Cross Country Trials last Thursday at Lady Cutler Oval. We will see 40 participants now representing our school at the District Cross Country Competition at Wellington on Wednesday 6th June. Well done! School Development Day was held on Saturday at Burrendong Sport and Recreation camp for 50 staff. The day allowed staff to work together in building team strategies solving a range of problems—building a catapult; trust activities and orienteering. It was a very positive day for all staff and it allowed opportunities to work in different teams. This will now allow for 1 less Staff Development Day at the end of the year, meaning all staff finish the year on 20th December. All students will finish for the year on 19th December. AVID training will be held for 16 staff at the end of the week at Senior Campus. This is part of a grant we received from Schools Plus as a cluster project with Buninyong, Dubbo Public, Orana Heights and Eumungerie Public Schools. The AVID training has allowed teachers to be upskilled in a range of strategies under the banner of WICOR—Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organisation and Reading. The College has been using these strategies over the past 3 years. We are now as a cluster group supporting the work of the College. Students across Stage 3 are working with the WICOR strategies and all parents will be able to see and understand these strategies through classroom work produced by your children. Please talk to them about their WICOR strategies.

Congratulations to our school community who have contributed support to our charity project raising funds for Kara Toomey fighting her battle against cancer. A fantastic effort with a total of $1275 raised. Well done to all! Have a great week, Sharon Murray

The following students have completed their 2018 Challenge: Zara Morrow, Juliet Quinn, Charlie Hawkins, Thaviru Wickramasingha, Charlie Hawkins, Harry Hawkins, Hudson Grandey, Jayden Hocking and Liam Hopkins-Davies (as at 25/5/18). Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two have been enjoying PRC books during their library visits. There will be a list of these available in the library to add to each student’s reading log. Orders arrived back in the library on last Friday. If you have not received your order, please see me or ring the school on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

NSS—National Simultaneous Storytime Last Wednesday Kindergarten Red, Blue and Purple joined together in the library, during their release time, to listen to Hickory Dickory Dash. They had fun reciting the rhyme and joining in with the story. A video clip of this story (plus may others) is available on Story Box. If you are a member of Macquarie Regional Library you can access the Story Box collection using your membership number to log in. http://www.mrl.nsw.gov.au/

Reading aloud to children. This is not an Australian group, but it gives some ideas for reading aloud to children. You can read for 5 minutes at three times or read for as long as you can or want to. Above all make it fun and enjoyable. If reading becomes a chore, put it aside for later. You can read the newspaper for 5 minutes to help children learn about their world. Have a great week. Sue Buttrey Teacher Librarian
