We have resolved one speeder issue. A deliveryperson that does not reside in Spanish Ranch buthad the code for the rear gate and used the ranchas their high speed short cut, has been contactedby the Hayward Police. It is unlikely that this personwill be seen here for a while. This why it important tosafeguard the gate code. If you are asked to giveout the code, dont and ask that person to call theoffice.

Lot inspections are still ongoing we continue to beimpressed with the great looking homes and pridethat is being shown by many residents by the condi-tion of their landscaping and homes. GREAT JOB!!

Psssttttt.... a gentle reminder about clubhouserules. No animals are allowed in the fenced commonarea of the club house, no skate boarding, bike rid-ing, rollerblading or ball playing.

We would ask you all to keep a lookout for anindividual that just loves the idea of having their ownsolar lights but does not want to purchase theirown. We have had several residents that have theirsstolen from their front yards.

Hmmm..lets see... what check goes with whatlot?.....From Jeff... please provide me with someadditional help. If you are using the after hours maildrop for your rent check, please put your checkwith the top portion of your monthly statement in anenvelope. An envelope is provided with your state-ment AND it hasnt even been glued closed. Pleasehelp me.

A complete copy of the pool rules is available in

ing appropriate swimming attire.2. A maximum of four (4) guests per space

the pool and spa facilities.3. No one under the age of 14 is allowed to use

the pool without a responsible adult present at alltimes.

    4. No food allowed in the pool or spa area.5. No loud noise or horse play allowed.6. Do not give your pool keys to your guests. Your

    key will be confiscated.

    Mr. Gs Corner

Graffiti. Guillermo has been working very hard atkeeping the sound wall at the entrance clear of thegraffiti over the months. It appears that a new gangtag has been added to the usual.

Mr. G has enlisted the help of a civic group work-ing in conjunction with the City of Hayward thathelps stamp out the gang tagging.

With this new collation with the City of Hayward,we now have a standard paint mix that is used byGuillermo and the City.

Guillermo says that enforcement is the key. Pleasefeel free to call the Hayward Police by dialing theirnon-emergency line (510.293.7000) and report any-one that you might see tagging the area.

Guest parking infractions continue to take up agreat deal of Mr. Gs time. Remember, Guest Parkingis for Guests (defined as casual or occasional visi-tors) and not full time residents of Spanish Ranch #1MHP.

Cleanup in front of your homes in the gutters. Mr.G wants to remind you that you are responsible forcleaning up the areas in front of your home. Washingleaves and debris into the home next to you or into

the storm drain is not to be considered as cleaningup. Your responsibility is to rake and broom sweepyour gutter area and put the debris into your greenwaste bin.

Mr. G says Thank you for your continued help inreporting street lights and common area lights thatare not working. Please continue to report the lightsthat are out as you notice them.

Car Wash areas. Person or Persons unknown arecutting the hoses provided for your benefit. Nothingis more irritating to go use the hose provided only todiscover that someone has sliced, diced and gener-ally destroyed the hose and getting drenched in the

process. Please report this behavior to the office.Teresa Cruz, ManagerJeff Stoops, Assistant Manager

So, he gets his red shirt and they victori-ously battle the pirates. Several days later, theyspot another pirate ship off the port bow. Cabinboy, says the captain get me my red shirt. Theyagain battle the pirates and are victorious. Laterwhen things had settled down, the cabin boy asks,Captain, why do you always want your red shirtjust prior to battle? The captain responds, Well,

in case I am inflicted with a wound, I dont wantthe crew to see my injury and lose spirit. I see, says the cabin boy. A few dayslater, they sight 20 pirates inthe distance the captain yellsout, Cabin boy, get me mybrown pants.

    A Man and His Ostrich

A man and an ostrich walk into a res-

taurant. The waitress asks, What willit be?

The man replied a burger and a coke. And you? Ill have the same, the

ostrich replies. They finish their meal and pay. Thatwill be $4.50, The man reached into his pocket andpulled out the exact amount. They do this every daytill Fri.

The usual? she asked. No, today is Friday. Ill havesteak and a coke.

Me too. says the ostrich. They finish and pay. That will be $10.95

The man reached in and pulls out the exact amountagain just like all week.

The waitress was dumbfounded. How is it that youalways have the exact amount?

Well, says the man. I was cleaning my atticand I found a dusty lamp. I rubbed it and a genieappeared. Wow! said the waitress. What did you

wish for?I asked that when I needed to pay for something, the exact amount would appear in my pocket.Amazing! Most people would ask for a million dollars. But whats with the ostrich? Well, said the man. Ialso asked for a chick with long legs.

    Donkey Sale

A Cajun named Jean Paul moved to Texas and boughta donkey from an old farmer named Ben for $100. The

farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.The next day, Ben drove up and said, Sorry, but I havesome bad news. The donkey died.

Well, then, just give me the money back, said JeanPaul

Cant do that. I went and spent it already, replied Ben

OK, then. Just unload the donkey, said Jean Paul.

What ya going to do with him? asked Ben.

Im going to raffle him off, said Jean Paul.

You cant raffle off a dead donkey! uttered Ben.

Sure can. Watch me. I just wont tell that hes dead, said Jean Paul.

A month later Ben met up with the Cajun and asked,What happened with that dead donkey?

I raffled him off, I did. I sold five-hunderd tickets at twodollars apiece and made a profit of $898, said JeanPaul.

    Didnt anyone complain? inquired Ben.

Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollarsback, said Jean Paul.

    Genie Wish

A guy was in a cave, looking for treasure. He found

an old lamp, rubbed it, and a genie came out. The

genie said I will grant you threewishes, but your ex-wife will get

    double. The man agreed, and

said I wish I had a mansion. The

genie granted it, and his ex-wife

got two mansions. The man said I would like a

million dollars. The genie again granted it and his

ex-wife got two million dollars. Then the man said,

    Scare me half to death.

    Gloves, garbage bags, tools provided.

Rain cancelsRain washed out Februarys cleanup, though a

couple of us got most of the graffiti painted out aday or so later. Unfortunately it was still only two of usthat showed in April.

Dawn, with the help of passersby, got the grocerycart, bike parts and tires out of the creek while Jeaniepicked up bags of litter and fished cans and bottlesout of the water. The buildup of detritus from the litter-ing slobs out there was light enough to enable us tocover almost the entire length of our adopted creekbed, which runs from Folsom to the back gate.

A considerable dent was made in the graffitias well, before the effort was concluded becauseJeanie was tired and Dawn fell in.

Obviously we need more help! Graffiti obliteratorsneeded! Anyone interested in helping out can e-mailDawn at [email protected] if you need infor-mation, or just show up!

    4 / 2 6 / 1 1 Ivisited therun off creekbehind the

park yesterday to see if I couldsee any Canadian Geese babies. As soon as I walked onto the patha woman came up to me and inbroken English asked if I was fromanimal protection? Before I couldstop myself, I answered no, why?She told me that a group of chil-

dren had just been throwing rockstrying to hit the Canadian goslingsand in fact one boy scoopeda baby up and jammed it in hispocket before they all ran away.I asked her if she yelled at the kidsor tried to stop them and she saidthey were all on the other sideof the creek. This information justbroke my heart and has affectedme deeply. Last year under thebridge we drive over the creek toget into the back entrance of the

park, someone had hit down allthe swallow nests from under thebridge, placed the chicks deador alive into a box and left themwhere you would find them, inone of the clubhouses I believe. You took the box of chicks to theSulfur Creek facility so they couldcare for them, but Im sure mostdied from the trauma and cold.

I just dont understand howhorrid children are today?! I am

physically sickened by the actionsto innocent birds that these trueanimals are doing! I can onlyimagine what these spawn aredoing to the other wildlife at thecreek. It really makes me want tobuy a bebe gun and patrol thecreek. I understand that the creekis not the parks responsibility, butI just wanted to make you aware,in case something else comes up,that this act of violence was wit-nessed yesterday.

I do want to be very clear, thatif I see anyone doing harm to anyof the wildlife at the creek I willtake them by the scruff of theirneck to their parents. In the least Iwill always take my camera whenI visit the creek and take picturesof anyone doing harm and I guar-antee I will take those images tothe authorities and press chargesof animal cruelty.

If I were the parents of these

children I would be deeplyashamed. As well as the children....they should be deeply ashamed.Torturing and hurting animals ata young age....isnt that one ofthe first telling signs of a potentialadult psychopath?

Just wanted to share this dis-turbing information, for whateverits worth.

    Thank you,Yvonne Buff, SR1 resident

Emergency Preparedness for your petsContributed by a Guide Dogs organization

The following are suggestions provided by experi-enced veterinary personnel and animal trainers.

Just as we prepare for the unexpected we mustconsider for the needs of our animal companions. The elements for their safety and security fall intothree areas:

    (1) Planning and preparation for an event;

    (2) Protection and management during an eventand

    (3) The subsequent safety, security and supportneeded to insure their survival during that period oftime as your community mobilizes and regroups.

Pet emergency kits are suggested for their mini-mum needs:

Provide an emergency container (33 Gal. Unit onwheels. Keep away from building or adjacent toshed)

Maintain food, water and nutritional supplementsfor at least two weeks. They may drink from poolsthat are safe.

Personally take Pet First Aid Instruction be certi-fied from a certified trainer in first aid.

Maintain a first aid kit with bandages, gauze rolls, antiseptic, pain medication thermometer, scissorsand eye drops with back-up medication to sustainyour pet until service become provided.

Maintain separate leashes in your kit for dogs, cats, reptiles and other small animals. Keep muzzles fordogs that may become aggressive when emotion-ally upset or have anxiety because of the event.

Collars - Identification tags, which are alwaysworn on the pet, with pet name, your name, address, telephone number, and ICE In Case of Emergencynumber preferably out of state - A separate tag canalso indicate medication and dosage. A Micro-chipimbedded under the skin by a vet. Also, maintainextra pictures in case your animal gets loose dur-ing an event so that you can give it to authoritiesand emergency volunteers assisting in the recoveryperiod.

Keep animal carrier available in a place easily

accessible for small and medium size animals.

Records - Keep a photo copy of vaccinationsgiven in emergency kit. Maintain a plastic zip bagwith a current picture, veterinary medical visits, including; veterinarians name, office address, andphone number. Also, include a letter authorizing anyone you designate to take care of the animals.

Include scooper and plastic bags to pick up waste, kitty litter/ boxes etc. Maintain a 5/gal. Container withlid to store waste in a plastic bag until trash servicesare re-instated by your community.

Keep extra towels, blankets and favorite toys inthe emergency container.

For fish, move them in large Ziploc baggies (1 Gal.)leaving plenty of air over the water. Place aggressivefish in separate bags. Place all the bags carefully ina large cooking pot or sturdy box for evacuation. Itis possible that the fish tank is portable enough to

move, after emptying the water. Remember eachgallon of water weighs 8.3 lbs. Therefore a 5 gal fishtank weighs over 40 lbs.

Your Pet is a special member of your family, theyare your kids, provide for them as you would yourselfand be prepared. They depend on you. Others willassist you if sheltering is necessary.

Minutes of the SR1 Board Meeting 5/5/2011Meetings of the elected Spanish Ranch I Executive Board are held on the first Thursday of each month at

7:00 p.m. in the main clubhouse. ALL residents are welcome to attend!

The meeting was called to order a little past 7:00p.m. Those present were: Dawn Plaskon, Judy Allen-Rodgers, Patty Little, Peggy Nichols, Barbara Sacks,Ruth Horton, Jerry Higgins.

Dawn asked for approval of the last meetingsminutes, and they were approved with no changes.

    Pool Party:

Dawn declared that the Pool Party on May 1st,Sunday, was a big turnout and great success. Wehad many volunteers helping in set-up, cookingthe hot dogs, and distributing the chips, soda, andcookies to residents. We served about 100 peopleand had very little leftover food! A few residents whowere kind enough to help out in cleaning up weregreat! and Dawn wanted to thank them but failedto get their names. Thank you one and all for all thehelp in making this event a fun time! Our residentface-painter, Joselyn painted the kids faces withher beautiful artwork. Thank you to her too!

Total food costs were $148.77, offset by contribu-tions from NERT of $35.01, and Bingo (Ron Gomez,Chairman) $75.00, leaving $39.76 paid by theAssociation. Additional party supplies paid for bythe Association were $46.26.

    Emergency Park Phones:

Jerry Higgins wondered if anything has beenresolved on the Emergency Phone system for whenwe have an emergency or disaster and be able to

reach management? Dawn pointed out that whenyou call the emergency number, it goes to a pager. This pager number will be published in the next elToro for all residents. Dawn talked to Jeff and Theresaand they are aware of the situation.

    Residents Passing:

It was brought to the attention of the Board aboutresident Shirley Weinholds untimely death in a caraccident. I am sure you have all seen her walkingher dogs in the park, and we will very much miss herpresence. The editor will write up a memorial piecefor the next El Toro about Shirley.

    Residents Action:

Board member Barbara Sacks mentioned that shewas very pleased with results from the managementrecently in dealing with her complaint of blinkinglights in her house. She talked to Jeff Stoops (AsstMgr), in person and told him the problem and he saidthat he would check it out to see if it was the Parksproblem with electricity. This was done right awayand they were able to fix her electrical equipmentrather quickly. Barbara felt that by going in personand asking in a civil manner, things do get done!

Please advise residents to voice their complaints inboth oral and written form, as we continue to workwith management.

    Future Events:

    Thanksgiving Dinner:

It was proposed to have another Thanksgiving Dinnerin the Clubhouse this year. Everyone agreed that weshould do it the same as last year. Dawn will look intothe possibility of donated turkeys from local grocerystores. We will have residents provide desserts, but allthe rest will be provided by the Association. Last yearsdinner was a great success for those residents that didnot celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with family.

    Crafts/Gift Fair:

It was also brought up to have a Crafts Fair inNovember for the selling of handmade crafts andarts. This is a good time to get some early Christmasgifts! We are thinking of maybe the second Saturdayin November (11/12), and Dawn will reserve theClubhouse for it. Patty Little will handle the selling andreserving of tables.

    Halloween Party:

Dawn was going to check with Darlene Richardsonabout her involvement with another Halloween Partyfor residents. If Darlene wants to do it again, Dawnthought we will ask her if she wants to combine it intoa joint venture with the Association? More informationto come on this.

    Charities Drive:

Our next Association-sponsered charity drive will befor school supplies in conjunction with the HaywardTools for Schools program. Dawn will check into whatkinds of school supplies are needed for schools, andwhere to donate will be posted in the el Toro, and onthe SR1 website.

The meeting wound down to announcements offuture events, such as:July 25th: Car-A-Van PartyAugust 2nd: National Night Out

More information on these events to come.Respectfully submitted by:
