Swimming Carnival Success Congratulations to our students who participated in the swimming carnival yesterday. There were many determined competitors and I couldn’t help but notice how enthusiastic our students were the sportsmanship was outstanding as was the team spirit our students displayed as they were cheering each other on. Congratulations to our house captains and to outstanding staff for their fantastic organisation of the 2019 swimming carnival. Compulsory School Attendance Regular school attendance is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Parents must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

being sick or having an infectious disease

having an unavoidable medical appointment

being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student’s record. Driving Safely in Winbourne St and Brush Rd It is essential that all parents drive safely and adhere to the road rules around our school. The council is enforcing safe driving and many parents and community members have been booked over the last couple of weeks. Information on each of the parking signs can be found attached to this newsletter. Please keep our children safe by driving safely. Creepy Crawlies and Unwelcome Visitors At times, creepy crawlies or domestic animals can enter the school grounds. As part of our Health and Safety processes, a site check occurs each day and teachers are roaming during playground duty. Already extensive rubbish removal has occurred. We are also clearing the lower area of the entrance to the school at Brush Rd. Teachers will be discussing with their class what they need to do if they see an animal on the school grounds that may be unsafe. School Invoices School invoices will go home this week. The invoices include costs for student resources, incursions and excursions. We appreciate prompt payment of school invoices. Parent Teacher Interviews – Week 6 and 7 Parent teacher interviews will be during Week 6 and 7 this term. Parent Teacher interviews provide parents with an opportunity to discuss their child’s learning with their class teacher. This supports parents in developing an understanding of the curriculum, their child’s learning goals and next steps in learning. Further information will be distributed via eNews.

Kindergarten This term Kindergarten will be talking about their family. Please provide your child’s teacher with a family photograph so your child can tell the class about their family during news. In the next coming weeks, we would like you to make a simple family tree with your child. This only needs to go back as far as grandparents. Please return all treasure box items (dominoes, numbers 0-31 and ten frames labelled) in the plastic bags that were provided to you. Sight words for this week are to, can, run and hop. This week’s sounds are ‘p’ and ‘n’. Please read and practise their sounds and sight words each night and remember to bring their reading folders to school every day. Stage 1 Thank you to all the parents who attended the Meet the Teacher Evening. Stage 1 teachers had a fantastic time meeting all of the parents. Guided Readers will be sent home this week. Please remember to read every night with your child and track in your child's new wellbeing journal. Scripture is commencing this week. Please make sure scripture details are up to date with the office. Our first official assembly will be on Thursday at 2pm in the hall. A big thank you to all the Year 1 families who have cut treasure box resources. Please return them as soon as you can with the students name on each resource. Finally, a big congratulations on all the Year 2 students who competed in the Swimming Carnival. The day was a huge success. Stage 2 Wow! It has been a jam-packed four weeks and it has been wonderful to see our learners settle into their new classes. Learning programs are now in full swing with the past weeks spent getting to know our students and their individual needs. It was exciting to meet so many parents at our 'meet the teacher' night last week. The relationship we forge between school and home is a really important factor in the progress of our children. Thank you to all those parents who covered their child's books over the weekend, they look fantastic. Keep an eye out for the first homework task coming home today, we are looking forward to seeing the end result. Finally, a huge congratulations to all those swimmers yesterday who got out there and enjoyed themselves. Stage 3 Our Year 6 leaders are well on their way to carrying out their responsibilities. House captains will be organising their house during the swimming carnival and have proved to be conscientious in collecting house points each week and communicating points at assembly on Friday. Prefects will host their first assembly this week and are responsible for the recycle bins and setting out games at lunch time. 6C will be presenting an item at this K to 6 assembly. Very pleasing to see a keen interest in band and they are busy learning new tunes. PSSA games commenced last week and softball and T-ball teams nearly did not make it as the bus was very late. However we were able to shorten the games so no one missed out! Please ensure your child has plenty of water to take to the games.

Message from Mr Whyntie (3/4W) I'd just like to extend a huge thank you to the entire community for making me feel right at home here at Ermington Public School. The friendly, warm and caring atmosphere I have felt over the last few weeks is something that I think makes our school something very, very special and I feel a great privilege, and responsibility, to be teaching and leading within it. I really do feel part of the Ermington family already which is testament to an outstanding, collaborative, school culture. Stewart House Clothing Appeal Stewart House have ask us our school community to help out again in 2019. The clothing bags will be distributed this week to students. Please return your bags to the Computer Lab by Friday, 8th March.

Swimming Carnival 2019

Yesterday we had the 2-6 swimming carnival at Auburn swim centre. It was a very exciting day where all the students tried their hardest in getting house points for the houses. Every race was exciting as the next. The students also had lots of fun competing against their friends. The novelty races were also a success and the students had a bunch of fun. Ermington would also like to thank all the teachers and parents for their hard work and consideration in the swimming carnival and to the students for trying their hardest in every race. Everyone at the swimming carnival had a very fun time. THANK YOU! Jessica J

Cyber Bullying Visit Constable Crystal had a meeting with Years 3-6 last Thursday. She taught us about Cyber safety and everyone enjoyed the talk as we always do. It focused on how to keep your information safe online and to always tell someone if you are being bullied or threatened online. Constable Luca also joined Constable Crystal, he answered all of our curious and interesting questions. Students were happy to hear the talk and were very engaged. This talk was the highlight of the day for us. Thank you Constable Crystal and Luca for this great experience. Emily H
