From the Pastor

Alright, my brothers and sisters: all the presents have been opened, the trash cans are full of gift wrapping paper and tamale wrappings; the excitement and surprise is all but a memory now; you have been eating and drinking more than you should have for the last month and now you can barely move and the guilt is kill-ing you; and soon enough you will re-ceive the bill for all the over spending you could not afford for Christmas. I hope and pray somebody gave you some Tylenol for Christmas so you can take care of the headache that is about to visit you when the bills come. Let this be your New Year resolution: Become what you already are in Christ. May Mary, Mother of God, Mother of the Church and our Mother intercede for us and bring us closer to her beloved Son and our Lord Jesus, Our Redeemer.

Fr. Tony Diaz, CMF Pastor

P. Tony Diaz, CMF Parroco

FORMATION CORNER – THOUGHTS TO PONDER, WAYS TO LIVE

"May the nations be glad and exult because you rule the peoples in equity; the nations on the earth you guide." Ps 67:5

A NEW YEAR BEGINS WITH GOD

Today we begin a new year and as with every new year we often make resolutions on how we will live differently from before: become a better person, a healthier one, spend more time with family, pray more, work less, play more, etc. And all of these resolutions do not require dramatic actions, but all start with one simple thing: we make a choice to do it (or a choice to try). The point is, any change re-quires a choice and all our choices matter in determining who we are, the people we are or want to be. God is always with us, and one of the many realities God wants us to know is that our choices mat-ter more than we know. Our choices are a vital part of the transforming God is trying to work in us. Ironically, we tend to make most of our choices alone, in the solitude of our hearts and minds for-getting to ask for God's help or to even think of making God a part of our decision making. But remem-ber: Christ is in us at all times! God knows every thought before we think it, every decision before we make it. Our realization that God is aware of everything going on within us can protect us from care-less, selfish living. Focusing on our desire to please God, the one who knows us so intimately, can change the way we think and live. We may have assumed that our choices are important only to our-selves and therefore mostly insignificant, but this is not true. A good decision made today, however small, may set us on a path to accomplish something very important, not only for ourselves, but possibly for others, too. A bad decision, seemingly minor, can lead to serious failure or loss in the future, or hurt to someone we love. And though our choices do indeed matter, we are also to remember that there is no condemnation for those who belong to God. God sees us with all our flaws and failures and simultaneously loves us with a glorious, unfailing Love. With God as our guide and knowing we are al-ways loved, the new year is sure to be a good one. Happy New Year and Blessings to All.

DID YOU KNOW?

Cell phone apps allow for hiding photos and messages

A review of a young person’s cell phone text messages may provide a parent or caring adult with information such as who your child talks to, where they are going, and what they’re doing. Unfortunately, all of that may be in the past. Today, some new cell phone text messaging services keep cell phone texting activity increasingly private. In order to protect young people, one must stay current and re-connect with ever changing technology. SABIA USTED?

Dear Parishioners,

Happy New Year!!! As our Christmas Season continues, I pray that you had a blessed Christ-mas and you are enjoying these days with your family and friends. As we begin 2017, I am so grateful for the contributions you have made to San Gabriel Mission Elementary School. The check given to us from the Fiesta Fund is a great help in maintaining the programs that enable our school to offer quality Catholic education to all of our students. I hope that more families from our parish come to be a part of our Mission school family.

We have recently reconnected with some of our alums and are finding them eager to become a part of our future with their donations to our Blended Learning Fund. Some of you have supported our Transitional Kindergarten / Kindergarten Project and will be happy to know that it has finally been approved and you will see the area on Santa Anita looking beautiful soon.

Know that as a benefactor you are remembered in the prayers of our school community.

Gratefully, Sister Sharon, O.P.

Congratula ons to Senior Lei Sherry Wang
