shall pay no dues.
Re: Dues
Section 5. Dues and membership fees
Currently reads:
B. Annual dues shall be $24.00 for the first
member and $6.00 for the spouse or

Last month Jack Walter led a Driver’s Club run on the Ortega Highway from San Juan Capistrano to Lake Elsinore. At the end of the month, Marci and I led another popular run to Lone Pine and Bishop to see the fall colors. Both of these trips are described in the Historical section of this gazette.
In addition, there is a proposal to change the club By-Laws. The proposed By-Laws changes are being submitted for approval by the membership. These changes were discussed at length at the September meeting and distributed to attendees at the October meeting. Both of these deal with revenue, or income to the club. This has come about because of growing difficulties in scheduling our customary annual activities and falling short financially, resulting in a series of budget deficits and a falling treasury balance.Upon analysis by your Board of Directors, it was concluded a low dues structure, and a growing percentage of non-paying members (Life Members), has created a financial hardship. These proposals are a means to help put the Club on a stronger financial footing, make the annual budget process smoother, and allow us to continue the activities we enjoy all year long.
The voting will take place at the November meeting. If you are unable to attend, you may vote by submitting your vote by email, to both Jerry Clement ([email protected]) and Chuck Hammer ([email protected]) Be sure to send to BOTH, by Nov. 1 to be counted.

OCTOBER NAME BADGE DRAWING The name badge $50 lucky person was Pat Cowley this month; next month's drawing will be $10.According to my records, Pat has never won the name badge draw-ing. However, he and his wife, Sharon, have been lucky in the 50/50 drawings. Pat won $65 in February 2015, while Sharon won May and July, 2015, $75 for each month.
OCTOBER 50/50 DRAWING Jerry Clement, at the time that he purchased his 50/50 ticket, had made a comment that his significant other, Marci O’Brien, was not present at this month’s meeting, thereby having a better chance in winning the 50/50!! Well, thanks to our most recent TVS member, Anita Bustamante, who pulled the lucky 50/50 ticket. President Jerry Clement won $90 while the club received $90. Back in April 2016, Jerry won $82 and back in October 2012, Jerry won $82.
Congrats to the two lucky people!!

MONDAY DRIVERS’ CLUB RUN SEPTEMBER 12, 2016
To gain a few more “twisties”, Jack took the group from the crest, down to the lake and back up to the top for lunch.
The final cards were drawn for the poker run and George Persons was declared the winner. The next day, Sept. 13, was Jack’s birthday and he was treated to a piece of cake.
Jack, thanks for another fun run. Pat
Once again, Jack Walter rescued us from a day of house chores by organizing another Mon-day Drivers’ Club run. This time it was on the Ortega Highway from San Juan Capistrano to Lake Elsinore. As usual, we met at Krispy Kreme at 10am before departure.
In an effort to raise funds for the club, Rosiebegan collecting money for a 50/50 poker run along the way. Jack’s ticketinto the carpoollane was his daughter, Amber, who helped Rosie. After making a pit stop in San Juan Capistrano, another poker card was drawn before heading to the Lookout Roadhouse for lunch.

Friday, Sept. 30. Jerry Clement led a weekend run to Lone Pine and Bishop, CA to see the Fall leaves, the Lone Pine Film History Museum, the Owens Valley Cruisers Car Show, Western Movie Locations, Manzanar, an ancient bristlecone pine forest, and scenic driving through winding roads. There were 18 cars and 34 members on this trip.
The first stop in Lone Pine was the Film History Museum. We learned that there were over 300 movies filmed in nearby Alabama Hills from the 1920’s through the 1950’s.
After seeing the exhibits, we took a scenic drive through the Alabama Hills.
Afterwards, we went to our Best Western Hotel where we had “snacks” and beverages.
A campsite was set up on the hotel lawn using chairs and tables gathered from the swimming pool.
Keeping with the western theme, Maritza sang a few songs around the camp fire.. Really? No, not really.
“…where the deer and antelope play...”
A RUN FOR THEFALL COLORS
SEPT. 30-OCT. 2, 2016

10
We took a winding mountain road with a 6,000 ft. elevation change to the Schulman Grove Visitor Center (elevation 10,100 ft).
From there, we took Discovery Trail, a 1 mile hiking loop featuring Ancient Bristlecone Pines, interpretive signs, and rest benches along the trail (just our speed).
Part of the grove con-tains a bristle cone pine, “the oldest liv-ing non-clonal organism, with an age of 5,066 Years (germination in 3051 BC)”.
That evening, we all went to dinner and treated Marci & Jerry for putting this event together. After dinner, Jerry awarded prizes to the winners of the poker run, etc.
Saturday, Oct. 1. Jerry called a driver’s meeting at the hotel and explained the plan of the day: see fall colors by taking Hwy 168 out of Bishop and heading toward Sabrina Lake (elevation 9,128 ft.)
The trip up to the lake was colorful. The weather at the lake was cold and windy. Some, like Pat & Sharon, left jackets “safe” in the hotel room. Others, like John Tully, had an extra jacket in the hatch-back.
After leaving the lake, we stopped for photos.
After freezing at the lake, we broke up into two groups: (1) those that thought their cars were too clean and went to North Lake on a dusty mountain road and (2) those that didn’t want to get their cars dirty and went to South Lake on a paved, twisty road.
Next on the agenda was to go to lunch at Erick Schat’s Bakery in Bishop followed by a trip to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the Inyo National Forest outside of Big Pine.
