SPECIAL EVENTS• Over 2,000 alumni attended our 9 signature alumni events

this year!– Combined Homecoming and BS Reunions for a

successful campus connection.– 4th annual Haas Gala was a grand success even with

the last minute venue change!– The three Bay Area Haas Celebrations remain popular

for their high-end content and power networking formats.

• Record attendance at Gap and Menlo events; East Bay event at Dreyer’s Conference Center has sold out since its inception.

• Haas Alumni Office staff attended over 40 Haas chapter, student and signature events in FY05-06

• Identified and contracted a new event management tool (cvent)

• Combined with Chapters, the Haas Alumni Network hosted an average of four events per week world-wide in FY05-06

REUNION PROGRAMS• Re-defined and delivered the All-Alumni Reunion Conference and

MBA Class Reunion Program– Reintroduced the Class Reunion Books – Record participation from the 5 and 10 year MBA reunion

classes– 10 year MBA Class contributed over 10K above previous

year’s class gift– Highlighted faculty at the conference and introduce new,

very successful family connections events.• BCEMBA Legacy Event

– Introduced new annual reunion program that unites current students and alumni, motivates them to give back to their alma maters, and build on their uniqueness and connections

• BS Homecoming and Reunion Event– Partnered with Central Campus for a Homecoming and UG

Reunion events.– Hosted homecoming brunch and presentation in honor of BS

classes.• MFE

– Hosted alumni reception at graduation in honor of the graduation of the fifth class.

WEB / ONLINE COMMUNITY

• Launched New Tools: – LinkedIn: First B-school alumni network to form within this popular

social and professional networking application; very popular with the 0-5 year out alumnus and current students; 2,700 members to-date.

– Factiva: An extensive business resource, database, and publications tool; higher use than expected, even before promoting this new HAN subscription widely.

– @Cal Café: participated in new campus-wide social networking feature.

• Obtained buy in and support from Haas Computer Center to administer and manage the email forwarding system widely used by many alumni and all MBA students. (a huge strategic win for us!)

• Haas@Cal:– Continued to serve as a campus leader on the short- and long-term

strategies and goals for the online community. – Began process to secure new vendors for improved online

community services.• 6 Chapter and 6 Class websites up and running • Developed new Class Agents module for annual fund class campaigns.• Improved eHAN quality and content.• Jobs Database completed/refined; heavily used by alumni.

HAN ALUMNI COUNCIL• Taskforces implemented project plans

– Technology Taskforce: launched LinkedIn social networking tool, conducted benchmarking study on web tools and technology services offered by other top business schools; developed suggested technology road map

– Survey Taskforce: Drafted preliminary questions and focus for upcoming 2006 alumni survey

– Alumni Showcase Taskforce: Conceived and designed new alumni profiles feature for website

• Strengthened Alumni Council and Development Council volunteer connections and participation through joint planning meetings; important input for the Haas School Strategic plan provided by this core group of volunteers

• Continued to build on new format for quarterly meetings, featuring productive “brainstorming” sessions

• Stronger, more committed Executive Committee due to regularmeetings and stronger partnership in planning overall HAN themes.

• Hosted “Former HAN President’s Circle” dinner with Deans; strong former volunteer leaders participation.

STUDENT RELATIONS• Provided more strategic and focused support which resulted in specialized

attention and deeper student – alumni connections in the respective programs. For example:

– BS: New orientation approach, Feed the Bear improvements, Program office collaboration improved, faculty participation in FTB

– FTMBA: Lifecycle meetings, created new spring graduation newsletter/website– EWMBA: Participated in EWMBA Student Association Kick off Planning

meetings; assigned student reps to local HAN Chapter Boards; sponsored incoming class photo

– MFE: Hosted final semester luncheon in January; hosted alumni brunch and info table at Graduation.

– BCMBA: Hosted inaugural student–alumni Legacy Event & silent auction, participated in orientation and farewell event; developed student-alumni event calendar and activities plan

– PhD: Work closely with program office to deliver warm welcome and farewell to all students, introduced Orals Congrats packs

• Strong collaboration and partnership with the Annual Fund Team lead to a very successful student fundraising drive for the FTMBA and UG Lifelong Connections (Feed the Bear) campaigns; achieved 93% for MBAs and 30% for UGs.

• Played key part in successful Orientations for all programs by sourcing keynote speakers and panelists.

• Issued numerous alumni speaker invitations for various student-led conferences, seminars, or workshops.

• Collaborated with the MBA Admissions and Career Center for improved alumni participation and impact at special events.

CHAPTER & REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE NETWORK

• Four Chapters (EB, SF, SB, LA) hosted special events in honor of the 10-10-20 campaign; remarkable progress on this new regional initiative.

• Welcomed new HAN Regional Reps from Hungry, Portugal, and Iran; total regional representation at 26 domestic locations and 37 international locations.

• HAN world-wide chapter network held 168 events, attracting over 3,790 attendees!

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS • Strengthened Entrepreneurship SIG and Biotech

SIG• Progress made for the creation of a new VC Alumni

SIG• Q@HAAS SIG broadening

MARKETING • Distributed new HAN marketing - HAN is a network of

People, Ideas, and Action! - collateral widely to students, alumni, and faculty

• Highlighted internal HAN brand through service on the Senior Staff Haas Brand Council and MBA Life-cycle Committee.

CAREER SERVICES

• Team/Management– Hired new Director of PT MBA and MBA Alumni Career

Services, Pat DeMasters. Solidified the team of four.

• Tech Services– Weekly alumni jobs email list continued to grow, averaging

70 new jobs posted each week with a total of 3,374 job postings shared with HAN Community this year.

– The Haas Jobs email list has over 3,700 subscribers (increase of 600+ over last year)

– Launched a new weekly information section in eHAN for employers and hiring managers: offering insights on how to recruit top talent, career management tips to retain good staff and insights on hiring trends."  The intent is to go beyond offering career services just for job seekers, most of our alumni work in small 30 and less employee companies, they do not have the luxury of an HR department to keep them up on staffing issues.

CAREER SERVICES (cont’d)

• Events Hosted – Two Haas Alumni Career Panels and Networking Receptions– Two Career Fairs– Full day “Mapping Your Career” workshop to Haas Alumni– Afternoon workshop entitled, "Positioning Yourself to Re-

enter the Workforce", in conjunction with CED– Partnered with Career Services on two important student-

alumni events: fall panels for CMC workshop for first-year MBAs and spring networking session at the Menlo Circus Club.

•  Counseling– Provided individual career coaching/counseling sessions to

38 alumni for a total of 114 advising hours– Hosted 5 Webinars on various topics and 5 alumni focused

directed job search teams

LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAMS

• Managed Year Two of the popular MBA Alumni Audit Program

55 alumni participated in the Fall semester

54 alumni participated in the Spring semester

• Highlighted Haas School Faculty at 14 HAN events

• Hosted 21 industry leaders presenting their expertise at Haas student and alumni events

PROFESSIONAL STAFF

• Enhanced and strong collaborative relationship with new Annual Fund team is a winning combination for Alumni Relations and Annual Fund Offices.

• Streamlined roles for increased efficiency among team.• Promoted Sue Clifton to Assistant Director • Hired new Special Events Manager, Louise Severy, who brings over 20

years of fundraising and event planning experience to the team; new approach will streamline our operations and make us more effective

• Two new Associate Directors will compliment our focus and hard work in two important areas – Student Relations and Reunion Giving

NEW OFFICES

• Professional office environment and collaborative work space has made the team more productive and effective (Thanks Larry for securing such wonderful offices!).

• DATA– Changing from a dual database system to one central University system– Sourcing and seeking out current professional info on alumni

• MULTIPLE VENDORS – Managing the PCI vendor– Initiating CVENT, GET ACTIVE, CLASS AGENTS

• EMAIL– SPAM FILTERS: are we getting through?– EMAIL FORWARDING: Successfully bringing it in house– EMAIL MARKETING: volume of outbound messages

• OFFICE MOVE– Our off-campus location affects our ability to be able to connect with our

colleagues and “alumni-in-residence” in real-time; it is an adjustment factor!

• GOALS VS. RESOURCES– Continually work to meet the needs of our various constituencies with the

limited staff resources available.
