Progress continues to be made withthe Hampden Landll consent process.Following Councils application to OtagoRegional Council for a consent toplace rock protection at the toe of thislandll, a meeting took place on May

15 with the Department of Conservation(DoC) and the Otago Regional Council(ORC) to discuss DoCs concerns

regarding the geological feature at thissite. Following this meeting, Council drewup an amended application and sent it toDoC and ORC for comment.DoC raised two minor concerns overprotection of the cone-in-cone concretionsbut following discussions betweenWaitaki District Council and DoC a verbalagreement was reached. A letter was

sent on June 29 to ORC outlining thesefurther amendments. It is expected theseamendments will be acceptable to allparties, and it will now be up to ORC tomanage the consent side of things. It is noted by Councils coastal engineerduring a visit to Hampden Closed

Old landfll clean-up updateby Gerry ONeill, Solid WasteOfcer, Waitaki District Council

    Landfill and subsequently during a

visit by Whitestone Contracting Ltd,that considerable volumes of water aredraining from the landll at the moment,

and it is unlikely that remediation workwill be undertaken until the site dries outenough for truck and plant to gain accessto the site.

Te planned screening o lms over threeWednesday nights, reported in the Rag

last month, has been postponed untilSeptember.

revor Norton, the convenor o theHampden Film Society, says this wasdue to diiculties being experiencedthis month by the New Zealand FilmFederation.

    Here is revors explanation:

Apologies to the People o Hampden.

Te arrangements we were making withthe Waitati Film Society to have threescreenings in Hampden in August with a

view to assessing the possibility o regular

    screenings, have allen through.

Te Waitati Film Society was making

arrangements with the New ZealandFilm Federation to supply these lms. TeNZFF also operates the large InternationalFilm Festivals that are currently beingscreened in the our main centres, andthe request about ilm screenings inHampden got put on the back burnerbecause o work overload.

Te NZFF has asked i Hampden canpossibly wait until September to screenthese lms.

I guess we dont have much option.

revor - Convenor. Phone me on 4394887 i you have any enquiries.

Our roll has now hit 26 which is asignicant milestone as the Ministryo Education will now start payingor Fleurs salary. Eighteen monthsago when the roll dipped below 20the board o trustees (BO)committed to stang Hampdenschool as a two teacher schoolwhich resulted in them unding

the bud.5. Remove inner growth, giving a vaseshape.6. Cut away any dead wood.7. Dont be araid to give them a goodtrim back. As long as there are buds there,(even though they are dormant) they willbreak out.

    8. Flowering should happen about 80days aer pruning.9. Spray plant and cuts with all purpose

August is a good month to dig someorganic compost into the vegie garden.

Remember, do not dig any in where youare going to put root crops such as carrotsor parsnips, as this may cause orking andyou could end up with two or more legson your root crops!Organic compost makes a big dierenceto brassica crops o cauli, cabbage etc, asbesides eeding them it also helps prevent

loss o moisture which is benecial toplants.
