5 Week Adult Bible Study Begins this Fall I am happy to announce the Fall Bible Study that I will be teaching this Fall. It is called Everybody Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People, written by Bob Goff. Author of many books including, Walk in Grace, Walk in Love and Love Does, many of us at HCC have enjoyed reading Bobs books and participating in his Bible studies over the years. If you havent read any of his work yet, you are in for a treat! From the book cover: W hat happens when we stop avoiding difficult people and simply love everyone? In his wildly entertaining and inspiring follow-up to the New York Times bestselling phenomenon Love Does, Bob Goff takes readers on a life-altering journey into the secret of living without fear, care, constraint, or worry. The path toward the outsized, unfettered, liberated existence we all long for is found in a truth as simple to say as it is hard to do: love people, even the difficult ones, without distinction and without limits. Driven by Bob's trademark hilarious and insightful storytelling, Everybody, Always reveals the lessons Bob learned - often the hard way - about what it means to love without inhibition, insecurity, or restriction. From finding the right friends to discovering the upside of failure, Everybody, Always points the way to embodying love by doing the unexpected, the intimidating, the seemingly impossible. Whether losing his shoes while skydiving solo or befriending a Ugandan witch doctor, Bob steps into life with a no-limits em- brace of others that is as infectious as it is extraordinarily ordinary. Everybody, Always reveals how we can do the same. Continues on next page————————->>> Haskins Community Church News September 2021

5 Week Adult Bible Study Begins this Fall

I am happy to announce the Fall Bible Study that I will be teaching this Fall. It is called Everybody Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People, written by Bob Goff. Author of many books including, Walk in Grace, Walk in Love and Love Does, many of us at HCC have enjoyed reading Bob’s books and participating in his Bible studies over the years. If you haven’t read any of his work yet, you are in for a treat!

From the book cover: What happens when we stop avoiding difficult people and simply love everyone? In his wildly entertaining and inspiring follow-up to the New York Times bestselling phenomenon Love Does, Bob Goff takes readers on a life-altering journey into the secret of living without fear, care, constraint, or worry. The path toward the outsized, unfettered, liberated existence we all long for is found in a truth as simple to say as it is hard to do: love people, even the difficult ones, without distinction and without limits. Driven by Bob's trademark hilarious and insightful storytelling, Everybody, Always reveals the lessons Bob learned - often the hard way - about what it

means to love without inhibition, insecurity, or restriction. From finding the right friends to discovering the upside of failure, Everybody, Always points the way to embodying love by doing the unexpected, the intimidating, the seemingly impossible. Whether losing his shoes while skydiving solo or befriending a Ugandan witch doctor, Bob steps into life with a no-limits em-brace of others that is as infectious as it is extraordinarily ordinary. Everybody, Always reveals how we can do the same.

Pastor Letter Continued… This study is very timely, I believe, in our current world and societal climate. It will be held in five sessions, and all participants are asked to purchase the workbook ($6-8 from Barnes and Noble and Amazon) before the beginning of class. So, when will that be? That is up to you! If you are interested in participating, please email [email protected] with your answers to the following questions:

Would you like the study to begin in September or October (It is 5 weeks)

What general times are you available to participate on what days of the week?

Would you prefer the study to be held in-person outdoors/socially distanced in-person indoors at HCC or held via ZOOM?

I think you will also enjoy reading the accompanying book, Everybody, Always, available at booksellers. Please email me

soon so we can get this study scheduled and feel free to email

me with any questions. Thanks!

Worship Schedule September 2021

September 5

Worship: Communion/15th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Isaiah 35:4-7a; Psalm 146; James 2:1-10, 14-17; Mark 7:24-37 Sermon: “Playing Favorites”

We are to tend to the needs of those around us—the needs

of the less fortunate and marginalized. Failure to do so results in

Godly wrath and calamity. There is a strong distinction in our

scriptures today between rich and poor. There is a strong theme of

God’s favor for the poor and a call to live righteously.

September 12

Worship: 16th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Isaiah 50:4-9a; Psalm 116:1-9; James 3:1-12; Mark 8:27-38 Special Guest Musicians: Hymns of Dixie

Join us for a fun filled Rally Day celebration as we

experiment with our worship theme – Backwards-Forwards-

Upside Down- Sideways! The events of the past 18 months have

turned our lives upside down, and things seem to be going

backwards instead of forwards! But we can find peace knowing

that the God of all Creation is still the same, and will always remain

the God constant and true.

Worship Schedule September 2021

September 19

Worship: 17th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Jeremiah 11:18-20; Psalm 54; James 3:13-4:3, 7-8a; Mark 9:30-37 Sermon: “Solidarity” What does it mean to stand in solidarity with those who are marginalized? Solidarity may mean providing means of survival and support. But as Jesus shows, solidarity may also require us to enter uncomfortable, disruptive spaces in our pursuit of justice.

September 26

Worship: 18th Sunday After Pentecost Scripture: Numbers 11:4-6, 10-16, 24-29; Psalm 19:7-14; James 5:13-20; Mark 9:38-50 Sermon: “Dream Big ”

This week’s scriptures contain stories of both dreaming and

fear; of great possibilities and great loss; and of all the dynamics

that dance between these two extremes. What are your greatest

fears? What are your biggest dreams? Do you trust in God enough

to live through your fears and embrace your dreams for a better

world for all?

The Board of Christian Education is happy to share that HCC will be offering two classes for children during the regular Kids Konnection time. The timing will not change - Pastor Jenny will share a Children's Sermon each Sunday towards the beginning of worship, and the children will leave worship. But because of increased attendance and varied ages, we will be splitting the group up when they leave. The youngest children (preschool through Grade 1) will meet with their teacher, Megan Collins (Substitute teacher is Sue Rider) in the upstairs corner Sunday School Room for Kids Konnection. Children in grades 2-6 will meet in the upstairs Choir Room/Large Sunday School room with teacher Mary Pat Browne (Substitute teacher is LeAnn Shapter) for the new elementary class, now called Bible Buddies! Acts 29 (grades 7-12) Sunday School/Youth Group will continue to meet in their downstairs corner room following worship, with teacher Hayley Studer. We are blessed with so many wonderful volunteer teachers, and such amazing kids and parents! Kids and teachers will follow church protocols for masks and distancing.

It will be a great year in Sunday School!

Thank you to the Trustees for their work in getting estimates and quotes for the new church roof to be installed. Your time and care in being good stewards of church resources is appreciated! Thank you also to those who have given special offerings for use on this important and necessary expense. Your generosity is most appreciated! Thank you to Brett Green for mowing the church lawn for the month of August, and to Brett's father, Ken Green, who donated his time and purchased parts to fix the church lawn mower. Thanks also to Mary Pat Browne who volunteered to mow the lawn the month of September, and to Matt Studer who will mow, as needed, in October. Thank you to Rod and Loretta for hosting our church potluck! It was a beautiful evening, and a wonderful time of fellowship! Dear Members, Sometimes those in need feel like life is barren and they are all alone, but the food pantry, with all of your support, can help those in need find hope, love, and support in any situation. There is beauty all around– I am so glad we can be your hands and voice to help those in need. Together we will make a difference. I will share that use of the pantry has decreased over the past several months. We are saving for the rainy day that I know will come. .We are also outreaching former users and teaching to use the pantry and save money for winter bills and other emergencies. Thank you for being a blessing! Lisa Ann Hatfield Otsego Food Pantry
