It is wonderful to see how quickly the Kindergarten children have become settled and are so happy. As you would all be aware, the Parent Meet and Greet sessions are being held today. These sessions are very informative with processes, programs and procedures for classes in 2019 all being explained, so please try to find time in your busy schedules to come along. At the conclusion of each session the information will be uploaded to our website for your referral if necessary. LANDSCAPING You may have noticed that work is currently underway landscaping and beautifying our ANZAC garden in front of the administration block. The work involves the reconstruction of the front garden beds which will be incorporating new edging, re-surfacing and turfing. I am sure this will create a more inviting welcome to our school. In the near future work will begin on the back playground areas. This will include new seating, shading and a new outdoor classroom area and sandpits. COMMUNICATION Our staff will find a time to talk to you when they can give you their full attention. Please remember that while our staff are in class or dealing with other matters, they may not be available to answer your questions immediately. Please contact the office to make a suitably convenient time to meet or email the school office. If you need to give urgent information to the teacher, please supply a handwritten note with your child to give to the class teacher. The best education happens when parents and schools work together. SWIMMING CARNIVAL What a great success on such a perfect swimming carnival day. My thanks to Mrs North, Mrs Corbett and Mr Carr for their efforts in organisation, the staff for their commitment to the day, the wonderful students and the many families and friends who attended in support of their children and our school. Competitive and non-competitive swimmers were catered for, ensuring all students had a number of opportunities to enjoy the cool water throughout the day. NEW STAFF PERMANENT APPOINTMENTS I would like to welcome our new staff member Mrs Rebecca Ponds (4A). I would also like to congratulate Mrs Palmano and Ms Daly, who also after a merit selection process, have received permanent appointments to Holsworthy Public School. . DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS A REMINDER TO ALL PARENTS AND VISITORS THAT YOU MUST COME TO THE OFFICE BEFORE PROCEEDING TO YOUR CHILD/CHILDRENS CLASSROOMS.

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.

School Banking day is Thursday. Each week you need to give your bankbook to class teacher. We will be holding a School Banking Information Session at our school: Time: 8.30am to 9.00am Date: Monday 25th February 2019 Location: On the verandah in front on kindergarten rooms. Please join us and find out more about the School Banking program and how your child can get involved.

If you are interested in opening a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account for your child you can visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account. A School Banking representative will be available at the Information Session to show you how you can do this. In order to verify yourself and your child, you will need your driver’s licence and your child’s birth certificate, but if you don’t have these with you on the day, you can complete verification online at home.

Swimming Carnival Last Wednesday we held our annual 3-6 swimming carnival at the Whitlam Leisure Centre. Over 300 students attended and participated in competitive races and novelty events throughout the day. A huge congratulations to all students on their excellent behaviour, positive sportsmanship and participation in activities.

Our newly-elected house captains and vice captains also did a fantastic job leading their houses in war-cries and cheering on their peers, they are to be commended for their leadership and initiative in preparing these for the students.

Today we held our awards assembly where the first three placegetters in each event were presented with their certificate and ribbons. Congratulations to those students on their achievements.

Some of our students will be attending the Liverpool Zone Swimming Championships next Thursday. Those students have already received their permission notes to attend. Please note that not all students who received an award at the assembly will attend the Zone carnival as there are qualifying standards for many events.
