Another month has quickly come and gone. I am excited that this month we will have some changes to
follow up opening up our classroom and having two preschool classrooms. Using one lesson plan has been
going very well. Beginning mid-March each teacher will be assigned 6 children and be responsible for working
together with the lead teachers to plan goals, do conferences, and assist in planning appropriate lessons that meet
each child where they are developmentally. We have done this in the past and have gotten away from it;
however, going back to specific caregivers is a necessity now that we have grown and still strive to maintain the
best quality care and early education to each child. In addition it will max out each classroom at 12 in attendance
daily which also allows us more one-on-one time with the children as well.
The Giraffes will have Karen as their lead teacher with Julie assisting while the Birds will have Sara as
their lead and myself assisting. Robin and Jennifer will be used as substitutes to cover vacations and my
maternity leave. (Classroom schedules, routines, and lesson plans will remain the same.) I look forward to these
changes complementing our mission and vision for KELC. Your feedback is important to us as we make these
changes, so please feel free to call, email, or see me with your feedback. Have a great month! Jeni

Intergenerational News The Birds have enjoyed participating in music and motion with the residents during the month of February. We
also have taken a few trips down to the wood working shop and the residents have shown them how they are
making bowls and boxes from tree pieces. Both interactions have been a big hit, and the residents really get a kick
out of some of the questions or comments the children have had for them.
The Giraffes have been really enjoying the time they spend with the residents. We have been
going down to the care center to visit residents in their rooms. Both the children and residents
love this. On Thursdays some children go to a planned activity with residents and
then a few go to the Jameson Lounge to talk with residents that are sitting there.
Birthdays This Month:

Happy, Happy
Birthday to You!

Giraffe Whistles:
It’s March!!! Can you believe it? We are rolling right
along with our letters in the classroom. We are currently on “Ii.”
The children are becoming experts at letters and the sounds they
make. Some are even able to figure out the first letters of words
from sounding them out.
We have been also working on sight words. We have
only done two but the children are learning them really fast. We
have learned “up” and “our” so far. So if you are reading a book
together and see those words be sure to ask them if they know it.
We are talking about St. Patrick’s Day along with our
sight words and letters. Spring is also a topic of interest as the
weather turns nicer outside.
Swimming is great! The children love swimming every
other Wednesday. We have a classroom full of fish! They are
doing great and they are all over the pool.
Donna came dressed as The Cat in the Hat to celebrate
Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. The children loved it! She read “The
Lorax” and gave them stickers. The children have really enjoyed
talking about dinosaurs. We even built a dinosaur habitat. Check
out the pictures up on KELC’s face book page.
Have a great month! Sara and Karen
Another month has flown by and we are now entering March. It’s been a busy
year so far but full of great changes to our classroom! Last month, the children
grasped the concept that letters make words and names. Next we will work on
writing their names and now we have put out sentence strips with names for them
to trace their names as well.
During the month of March we will be covering using our manners and
will start thinking about what we want to plant with the residents for our garden
this spring. We have been working with our class on working with our class on
with using manners with our teachers, peers, and residents so we thought we would
talk about it in our classroom. Another area we are working on in our classroom is
to use our words to express desires or feelings and listening to our friends’ words.
We will celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, Friday, March 16th
, by sharing
green foods with our friends and visiting our residents. Our weekly lesson plans
are posted on our website each week so you can see what we are doing and discuss
it at home as well. We look forward to another great month with your children and
assisting them to develop their early learning skills. ~Jeni, Julie & Jennifer
