The Dispatch is excited to give you an
in-depth sneak peek into what will
surely be remembered as one of the
greatest EMS Week’s in history!
We go behind the planning process to
show readers what EMS Week 2011
has in store!
For many months, the PR department
and the EMS Week Planning
committee have been hard at work to
make sure that EMS Week 2011 goes
down as one of the most fun-filled
events to date. Day in and day out, our
talented employees are there to guide
people through some of life’s most
intense and stressful situations.
EMS Week honors and brings forth national recognition to
the many ways you devote your lives and time to providing
excellent patient care to the lives of Mecklenburg County
residents and visitors. As our way of saying thank you and
celebrating how much you mean to this Agency, Medic
encourages you to bring your kids and family to come out
and enjoy the EMS Week 2011 festivities during the week
of May 16th—20th! We have plenty of activities that will be
sure to keep both you and your family entertained!
This year, we’ve added some new attractions and features to
the EMS Week 2011 activity line-up. The Medic Basketball
Game Tournament has been added as the closeout activity
on Friday, May 20th for all who would like to showcase their b-ball skills on the court!
Last but certainly not least, we’re bringing back the Medic Arcade complete with a Video
Arcade Game Machine (Ms. Pacman and Galaga), Foosball Table, Ping Pong Table
and even an Air Hockey Table! Be sure to bring your kids and family members to enjoy
some great food and even play a few rounds of foosball, ping pong, air hockey
or classic video games. Join us for EMS Week 2011 May 16th—20th!

Do you know an employee who goes above and beyond the duties of their position at Medic? Do you know someone
who has a positive attitude about their job and loves being a member of this Agency?
Medic is expanding upon the awards that will be given at our Employee Recognition Event which will be held on both June
7th and 8th. The Employee Recognition Team is asking for nominations from employees on a new award added this year -
the Unsung Hero Award.
Nominations will be accepted for employees from across the Agency that represent what it means to be an Unsung Hero.
Nominees should consist of those employees who lift up their peers and coworkers, love working for Medic and their
position, are excited to do their work, and are very patient/community driven. The Unsung Hero is a humble employee
who leads by example; a silent leader. Please keep in mind that nominees can be from any department across the entire
Agency.
Don’t let your coworker go unnoticed for the work they do at Medic, nominate him/her for a 2010 Unsung
Hero! Please send all nominations to Kristin Young at [email protected] by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 4th.
Nominations must include the following:
Your Name
Contact Phone Number/Email Address (if we need further clarification)
Nominee Name
Nominee Supervisor (if known)
Briefly describe why the nominee should receive an Unsung Hero Award
Thank you for your help! If you have any questions for the Employee Recognition Team, please direct them to Kristin
Young at ext. 6165 or via e-mail at [email protected].
Introducing the Unsung Hero Award
A patient recently called to deliver
praise to the Medic crew who treated
her daughter after having suffered
injuries to her arm during a lacrosse
game.
The patient’s mother wanted to take
the time to say thank you for the care
and compassion that the crew
delivered through out the entire treatment of her daughter.
She remains very grateful that her daughter was in the care
of people who understood her injury and pain and
continued the care all the way to the hospital. She stated
that both crew members were very helpful and wanted to
take a moment to thank them personally.
