Finally, a handful of people have inquired about the possibility of having child care provided by the Agency during the DNC. Although we completely empathize with those seeking such help, Medic is unable to provide child care services during the DNC. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we simply do not have the resources nor experience required to provide safe child care on a 24 hour basis. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this causes. If you have any questions or concerns about this announcement or other DNC related plans, please contact any member of the Lead Team.

DNC Info Regarding Possible Accommodations

As the Agency continues to prepare for the upcoming

DNC, questions have been posed regarding Medic’s

ability to provide accommodations for operations

personnel during the event.

Leadership fully understands that working a 12 ON/

12 OFF schedule may present a problem for those

employees who travel far distances to and from

work. With this in mind, the Agency has created a

survey to find out how many employees would take

advantage of accommodations at Post 100 IF they were

provided during the week of the DNC. Based on the

interest shown through the survey, necessary

resources will be put in place and plans will be communicated.

Please be sure to participate in this survey and answer YES to needing accommodations if

you are certain that you will take advantage of them during the DNC. We will use this

feedback to help us decide what space we need to retain for employee use; we may then

choose to lend our remaining available space to other agencies participating in the DNC

that have made such requests.

The survey can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KCYT3YG

SURVEYS MUST BE COMPLETED BY WEDNESDAY, JULY 11th by 5:00

PM. Further information will then be communicated once all surveys are

collected!

Finally, a handful of people have inquired about the possibility of having child care provided

by the Agency during the DNC. Although we completely empathize with those seeking such

help, Medic is unable to provide child care services during the DNC. We apologize for any

inconvenience this may cause, but we simply do not have the resources nor experience

required to provide safe child care on a 24 hour basis. Again, we apologize for any

inconvenience this causes.

If you have any questions or concerns about this announcement or other DNC related

plans, please contact any member of the Lead Team.

The Operations staff will be completing an updated demand

analysis for call volume this fall. There will be some

adjustments with current scheduling patterns in order to

address call volume changes to the call distribution patterns.

Without the necessary scheduling adjustments, it would be

difficult to achieve our two primary goals: 1) excellent

patient care and 2) taking care of our employees by

balancing the workload. Therefore, Medic will begin

conducting an annual shift bid that will be effective in

January of each year beginning with 2013.

Shifts varieties of 8, 10, 12 and 14 hours will continue to

exist. Quantities of each will change based upon system

needs. In a survey following last year’s bid, 76% of

participants rated the shift they received as good to

excellent.

The improvements from last year’s bid process will be

included. More shift bid details will be forthcoming following DNC.

Due to state reporting requirements, a change is needed to

the way Medic logs Non-System Users into Siren.

Please continue to add Non-System Users, now adding

P999998 in the ID Number field for all reports that

have a Non-System User added to the call.

In addition, each crew member must have their

position/crew member role chosen as Primary,

Secondary or Third crew in EVERY report,

Unspecified is not acceptable and will show up as a

common data error. First responders are to be logged in as

Third crew members, unless there are already three

members of the Medic crew.

Thank you for your attention to this matter as this is a

requirement set by the state. For questions about the

state required P999998 ID Number, please contact ePCR

Coordinator, Ute Dorflinger at ext. 6158 or via e-mail at

[email protected].

State Required ID for ePCR Users

Medic will continue with the mandatory compliance training being offered on a monthly

basis for all employees; each employee is expected to attend during the month of their

start date.

Outside of the HIPAA and Corporate Compliance training, the topics being covered

during these training sessions are continuing to be developed. Later this year new

components tied to safe lifting practices, stretcher maneuvering, physical fitness and

overall employee safety will be added.

It is important to note that employees will continue to paid to attend this training. Field

and CMED employees will attend during non-shift hours and all other employees will

attend a class that coincides with their regular work day. Hours for field and CMED

employees will continue to be tracked by the training moderator on a yellow card and submitted to payroll each pay period

for processing. Please note that employees will only be paid for the hours required to complete their specific compliance

class. If a given class only takes three hours, you will receive three hours of pay.

As new components are added and classes run longer, which will be communicated prior, you will be paid for the duration

of time you spent in class. The current classes are running three hours. When the new components are added and the

length of the compliance training is adjusted, everyone will be given amply prior notification so they can plan accordingly.

Please contact Risk & Safety Specialist, Amy Johnson, if you have any questions or concerns about the June Compliance

Training sessions at ext. 6095 or via e-mail at [email protected].

A group of recent newcomers to the United States got their very first EMS education

from Medic this past Tuesday, July 3rd.

Local non-profit International House asked Medic to teach new immigrants from around

the world about EMS, 911 and how Medic operates within Mecklenburg County.

EMT-B Lester Oliva and EMD Ruben Leal gave a hands-on presentation to the group of

20 newcomers. The group also took home information about basic first aid and the

CPR classes Medic offers. The class instructor said it was the best demonstration given

to their class so far. Way to go Lester & Ruben!

To view all of the awesome photos taken during the International House demo, please
