It’s time to make your opinion count by sharing how we

can improve as an Agency!

Medic Employee Survey: June 21nd—29th, 2011

Your final opportunity to take the annual Medic

Employee Survey will be tomorrow, June 27th thru June

29th.

Field employees will take it during June in-service

CMED and other Medic staff members will take it at designated times during this period

If the thought of taking part in another survey causes you to roll your eyes, consider this:

Thanks to last year’s survey feedback, a host of good ideas came to light and were

subsequently implemented within the Agency.

Improved employee recognition programs

Better vehicle cleanliness

New equipment bags on trucks

More employee engagement and involvement in Agency initiatives

**Shift bid process

**Employee lounge and fitness room design

The third Performance Pay tracking

period is set to end on Thursday,

June 30th. Please note that calculations

including Patient Satisfaction surveys

generally run two weeks after the

tracking period has ended. Final

results for the tracking period won’t

be available until mid-July.

Assuming we have met all of our

performance targets, payouts will be

made to all qualified, full-time Medic

employees (who have been with the

Agency for the entire tracking

period) on the last July pay period.

Please do not call Terry Bell or

anyone else in the Finance

department wondering when the

performance pay is coming. We have not officially hit the target yet (as patient satisfaction isn’t done reporting) and there is

no payout until all of the data tracking is complete and we know if we hit our targets.

Thanks to everyone for their hard work during this third performance tracking period!

Several field employees will receive or have already

received an email notification about their shift change from

the Field-Wide Shift Bid that was completed back in April.

This notification does not require any action and only

serves as confirmation that a shift change was completed

effective 6/14/11. The shift change notification email is

not linked to the current mini-bid.

Below is an example of the email and, again, no action is

required on behalf of the employee:

Hello,

Personal Action Form for SHIFT CHANGE For "Employee

name" has been approved and processed by scheduling. The

effective date of this request is 6/14/2011. HR will process this

accordingly.

Thanks

Shift Change Email Notifications

As a result of the

information received from

the shift survey, the

Scheduling department

would like to provide

employees with another

overtime option. Many

employees expressed interest in extending their shift by

coming in early or staying late.

The Scheduling department has begun posting a note on the

schedule that indicates the availability of this option. This

option will require that both crew members that are

scheduled on the truck to be in agreement with the

extended shift time.

Employees will be encouraged to notify Scheduling

(primary), the OA or Operations Supervisor by 2200 the

day before their extended shift occurs. This will

enable Operations to schedule the trucks in a manner that

takes extended shift times into account.

Extended Shift Overtime Option

The new Green ALS bags are

now in service on the

ambulances. Please do not

change the location or

quantity of any items in the

Green ALS bags so that we

stay consistent for each bag.

The location and quantities are a

continual work in progress.

Some items will be moved based

on feedback and future changes.

For example, when the bags for

the oxygen tanks are put into

service, it will free up space

within the green bag.

If you have any suggestions for

the location of particular item in the Green ALS Bag,

please contact Don Shue at [email protected] or

Bryan Edwards at [email protected]. Thank you.

No Changes to Green ALS Bags

Medic has

received

notification

from the

Charlotte

Fire

Department

(CFD) of our

ambulances

being posted

in front of

the CFD

General Office on Ninth Street.

Please be advised that the CFD General Office is NOT

to be used as a standby post. Medic crews should utilize

Post 61 which is located directly across the street from the

Hal Marshall building.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this

request.

No Standbys at CFD General Office

designed only for those who wish to change their

current shift. The bid will be processed online only via

the Medic Shift Bid link at http://www.medic911.com/

Important Note:

Please take your vacation plans into consideration prior to

changing shifts. Existing approved vacation days will

continue to be honored with your shift change. However, if

new days are needed as a result of your choice to change

shifts, the new days will require a new benefit leave request

and will be treated as a new request and only approved if

staffing permits. New benefit leave requests, as a result of a

shift change in the bid, will not be automatically approved.

Mini Shift Bid Open - 6/20

Submission Deadline - 6/29

Assignments Posted - 6/30

Medic would like to invite all

our employees and their families

to take part in one of America’s

favorite pastimes ….baseball!

Join us on Saturday, July 16th

at 7:30 pm as the Charlotte

Knights take on the Louisville

Bats at Knights Stadium in Fort

Mill, SC. The event will feature

a Post Game Fireworks show in

addition to the fun, food, family

and baseball lineup!

More information about ticket

prices and maximum number of

invited guests per Medic

employee will be forthcoming in

future editions of the Dispatch.

Please be sure to save the date for Saturday, July 16th

for our next Medic Night outing.

Hope to see you there!

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

The Lead Team would

like to thank all of the

field staff members who

provided feedback in last

month’s CE session on

ways to improve our

STEMI patient care and

cut down the time it takes

to get such a patient to

the Cath Lab.

Dr. Swanson brought your feedback into last week’s

Medical Operations meeting where it was reviewed and

discussed. There were some very creative ideas brought

forward and some of this feedback will surely find their

way into a future iteration of our STEMI care protocol.

Thank you all for your continued commitment to

improving patient care here at Medic as well as for sharing

your ideas with the team.

Thank you to everyone that attended the annual Medic

Employee Recognition Event June 7th and 8th at the

McGlohon Theatre.

The PR Department will begin distributing all ROSC pins to

Field Supervisors starting this week! Field Supervisors will

then personally hand out ROSC pins to their respective

employees.

Photos from both events are available online. Please copy

Here is this week’s leader board! Remember when you reach the 250,000 mark you get

the first level prize. Stop by HR and let us see your pedometer or take a photo with

your cell phone and email it to [email protected] along with your mailbox number

and we will get it to you!

See the top 10 leader board below? Notice a trend? Come on girls let’s get stepping!

Top 10 (as recorded on Wednesday, June 22nd)

TIPS FOR WALKING FASTER

1. Use good posture. Walk tall, look forward

2. Keep your chest raised and shoulders relaxed

3. Swing arms front to back (not side to side - arms should not cross your body)

4. Pretend you are walking along a straight line. To go faster -- take smaller, faster steps.

5. Push off with your toes

6. Breathe naturally. Walk fast enough that your breathing is increased yet you are not out of breath

WALKING DON'TS

1. Do not over stride

2. Do not use too vigorous arm movements

3. Do not look at the ground

4. Do not hunch your shoulders

5. Do not carry hand weights or place weights on your ankles

What’s the difference in power walking, fitness walking and race-walking?

Fitness walking is called by many different names - power walking, fitness walking, health walking.

Fitness walking is much more than a stroll or nature walk. When fitness walking, you incorporate the muscles of the upper

body. It burns approximately the same calories as running, yet it is much easier on the body. Because more muscles are used

it burns calories much quicker than less aggressive walking. It also tones muscles in the buttocks, thighs, hips, shoulders,

upper back and abs. Most fitness walkers average about 12 to 15 minutes per mile.

Unlike race-walking, there is no official definition. Use the tips above to ensure good walking form and to increase

your pace.
