    FROM THE PASTOR

    Dear Parishioners:

I would like to let you know that from October 14 th toright before Thanksgiving, I will be gone for a short sab-bacal with the approval of our Franciscan Provincial andour Bishop. From me to me, Friars go on sabbacals totake classes, learn Spanish, or for spiritual renewal. Ive

asked for some me to go to a place in Texas run by theCatholic Church that is a renewal center for priests, sis-ters and religious. Im going to take the me to develop ahealthy life plan that includes diet, exercise and stressrelief. I would like to look at my prayer life and deepenmy relaonship with Jesus.

Im very happy as a priest and as a Franciscan. Imdelighted to be your pastor at Mission San Luis ReyParish. We have an excellent parish, great staff, manyvolunteers and people who do all sorts of things to makethis place a center of evangelizaon in North County.

Youll be in good hands while I am gone. Fr. Adrian willbe serving as acng Pastor in my absence.

Please remember me in your prayers. Ill hold you inmy heart and in my prayers unl I return.

With best wishes for a blessed fall for all of you,

Fr. David Gaa, OFMPastor, Mission San Luis Rey Parish

With encouragements from all of us in his FranciscanCommunity, Fr. David has gone for a six week sabbacalto refresh and renew himself. He richly deserves this meaway and we look forward to his return in me forAdvent.

Our first Confirmaon Workshop took place at theMission last Saturday and was a success, by all accounts. We ended the morning with Mass in the Historic Church

over one hundred young people aended.White Sunday for the Samoan Community takes place

on Sunday aernoon. This is a special event for the Samo-an Youth Group and for their friends. The young peopleand children will display their marvelous talents Samoanstyle and everyone is welcome to join an aernoon ofsinging, dancing and praise in the McKeon Center; detailsare on the back of the Parish Bullen.

May I remind all Heads of Ministry to follow up withthose who signed up for ministry on Welcome Sunday. We had a generous response from a great number of pa-rishioners who wish to get more involved in the running

of the parish and in various ministries. Thank you onceagain on behalf of all of us at the parish.

As he welcomed the statue of the Blessed Mother fromFama in Rome last week, speaking about Mary, the HolyFather shared some thoughts with the assembled faithfulin St. Peters Square:

Take Mary. Aer the Annunciaon, herfirst act is one of

charity towards her elderly kinswoman Elizabeth. Herfirstwords are: My soul magnifies the Lord, in other words, asong of praise and thanksgiving to God not only for what

he did for her, but for what he had done throughout thehistory of salvaon. Everything is his gi. If we can realizethat everything is Gods gi, how happy will our hearts be!Everything is his gi. He is our strength! Saying thank

you is such an easy thing, and yet so hard! How oen dowe say thank you to one another in our families? Theseare essenal words for our life in common. Sorry,

excuse me, thank you. If families can say these threethings, they will be fine. Sorry, excuse me, thankyou. How oen do we say thank you in our families? How oen do we say thank you to those who help us,

those close to us, those at our side throughout life? All toooen we take everything for granted! This happens withGod too. It is easy to approach the Lord to ask for some-

thing, but to go and thank him: Well, I dont need to.As we connue our celebraon of the Eucharist, let us in-voke Marys intercession. May she help us to be open toGods surprises, to be faithful to him each and every day,

and to praise and thank him, for he is our strength. Amen.

With these lovely and upliing words from Pope Francis, Iwish you many blessings from the Lord in the week ahead.

    Fr. Adrian

    FR. ADRIANS CORNER

Fr. David has a leer in the Parish Bullen this week-end leng you know that he will be away for a shortsabbacal ll the end of November. Fr. Luis, Fr. Arturoand I will connue to mind the house while he is gonewith the help of our wonderful parish staff.

Following almost ten years as a missionary in Kazakh-stan where he worked hard in difficult circumstances, Fr.David came to San Luis Rey as Director of the Missionalmost fours years ago. He immediately set about restruc-turing things there and pung the Mission on a more sol-id financial foong. He raised the money to retrofit theHistoric Church and was instrumental in helping the Fran-ciscan School of Theology to relocate from Berkeley toOceanside. He has developed the Cemetery at the Mis-sion and is working to refurbish the McKeon Center andparts of the Parish Building. Fr. David has also been Pas-tor these last two years and serves on the Provincial Coun-cil of the Franciscan Province of St. Barbara. For the pastthree years he has been doing the work of three men.

Berkeley a Oceanside.

Decir gracias es tan sencillo, y an tan

dicil!

Muchas

agradecerle: Bueno, no necesito hacerlo.

    Padre Adrian
