Written and performed in visceral, punchy verse this is a breath-taking spoken story about friendship, class and a really bad idea for a festival. TheatreWednesday 11 FebruaryGround Up Theatre Company: Operation Crucible“A little gem... this is storytelling at its best, generous and warm hearted, lyrical yet real” Laura Wells, The Good ReviewOperation Crucible tells the story of four steel workers caught in the chaos on the evening of the Sheffield blitz. In the Marples Hotel in Fitzalan Square, 80 people, rushing and panicking, took shelter in the cellars; 10 compartments, each big enough to house only a few people at a time. At 11.44pm a 500kg bomb reduced the seven storey building to rubble. In the midst of destruction, one compartment withstood the blast. Within it, trapped, were four Sheffield men. The original play is set in a kitchen, in a house, in a suburb, some 40 miles out of Los Ange-les in the late 1970s. It tells the tale of a family storm with two brothers at its eye. Live ArtSaturday 31 January[Live] Art Club presents Playing with Spacecurated by Lawrence Bradby Playing With Space is a one-day festival of film and performance. It celebrates artists’ interventions into urban space, showing ways by which the presence of the human body can critique architecture.Two specially commissioned performances, by artists Nic Green and Dyad Creative, will take place in outdoor spaces close to Norwich Arts Centre at the end of the afternoon and evening screenings.
