participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians:
In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death. 509

Reflections on the Wisdom from St. Francis

“The Apostle says: The letter kills, but the spirit give
life…Those people are brought to life by the spirit of
the divine letter who do not attribute every letter they
know, or wish to know, to the body but, by word and
example, return them to the most high Lord God to
Whom every good belongs.” Admonition VII.
Remembering that all good comes from God is
never easy, even for Francis of Assisi. He said often
that one of his strongest temptations was to vainglory—
to taking credit for the good things he was doing. The
only solution to this was to spend a lot of time in
prayer, so that he could keep his focus on God. This is
why he spent so much time up in the mountains and
on remote islands, places away from the crowds where
he could focus on prayer and keep things in
perspective. Often his contemplative prayer was very
simple: he would focus on God, and ask the Lord,
“Who are You, and who am I?” In this way his
preaching and popularity were the source of spirit and
life, because he learned to attribute all good to the
Most High Lord God. May God bless and keep you
always!

PRAYERS FOR HEALING FOR FR. DAVID BEAUMONT, OFM Cap.
Please remember in your prayers Fr. David, who is Custos (Guardian) of the Northern Mexico Custody of the Western Province Capuchins. Father recently suffered respiratory ailments and is currently being treated in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. As of this bulletin printing, he is improving but is under medical supervision.
Before his health episode, Fr. David and the Custody hosted the Minister General of the worldwide Capuchin Order, Fr. Roberto Genuin, OFM Cap. (pictured near left). The Minister General’s visit was to check on the progress of the Custody and their various ministries throughout the region.

FEAST OF ST. CLARE August 11
Saint Clare of Assisi expressed to Saint Francis the desire to consecrate herself to God. Together with him, she became the foundress of the Franciscan Nuns of the Second Order: the "Poor Clares". Having governed her convent for forty-two years, she died in 1253. She was canonized by Pope Alexander IV in 1255.
God of mercy, You inspired Saint Clare with the love of poverty. By the help of her prayers may we follow Christ in poverty of spirit and come to the joyful vision of Your glory in the Kingdom of heaven. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
