The Art Workshops are held on Wednesdays and Fridays. There is a great atmosphere in the Art Room with all involved on their latest work of art. Why not try it out; the first lesson is free. During March we had 5 new Volunteers join us. We have Steve Smart assisting Heide in the Art Workshops; Car- olyn Ann Barrie, Jill Smithson and Anna Chan in Admin- istration, and Joe Atkinson on our CAVs program. A big welcome to you; your contributions are greatly appreciated. At this time the number of Balwyn Evergreen Members has grown to 380. Thank you all for joining and hope you are making good use of the benefits and rewards. At- tendance numbers for the first eight months were 9757 which reflected a 18% increase in Social Programs and 20% increase in Exercise programs. Our Cognitive Aerobics program has now been included on our website www.balwynevergreen.org.au. There is a great array of games and quizzes that you will enjoy. This program was funded via the Boroondara Community Grants program. During April we will be running 6 train- ing sessions on the outdoor equipment in the Park. Come along and join. The new signage on our newest bus looks fantastic. Signage on our second bus is scheduled for April. William, my oldest grandson turned 6 years last weekend. William lives in Kingston on Thames [London] with Jonathon and Timka and his little brother Benjamin. William is on the beach at Eastbourne. Aims to assist older people and people with disabilities, to keep, maintain or acquire a companion animal. We have fantastic volunteers who will come to your house. They will assist with, or carry out pet care which may include:

Walking your dog Transport to the vet Feeding Grooming Washing Administering medication Cleaning bedding, cages or kitty litter trays. Foster care

Who can apply: If you are living in the City of Boroondara and are older, or have a disability and need assistance to continue living independently with your pet, then you can apply to the Companion Animal Volunteer Support (CAVS) program for help. The service is free but a Balwyn Evergreen yearly membership fee is

applicable. How can you apply: Call 9836 9681 if you’d like assistance with your pet.

Companion Animal Volunteer Support Program

No Falls Exercise Program

This is a 15 week program that includes strengthening, stretching and balance components. It is run by a No Falls Exer-cise leader and skilled assistants. It is non strenuous and designed for those not accustomed to exercise. The pro-gram is very effective in helping you lower your risk of falling. All participants will complete a balance assessment at the start and end of the Program. You also need to meet the eli-gibility requirements for the Program. If you are interested in putting your name down contact Leonie or Brenda on 9836 9681.

Active Living Program at Balwyn

EVENTS

On Thursday and Friday from 10.30 -3.00pm we run an ‘Active Living Program’. This program, funded by the Department of Health, is for frailer members of the com-munity . There are varied and interesting activities offered, it includes an exercise component, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. The afternoon could include music, guest speak-er, art or craft, word games and much more. If you are interested or know of someone who might like to come please ring Brenda on 9836 9681.

Every Friday we have a Podiatrist available at Evergreen. To make a booking please call the office on 9836 9681. Cost is $40.00 for Evergreen members or $50.00 a session for a non-member. There is a $20.00 fee for failure to notify us if you have to cancel an appointment.

Every Wednesday there is a community lunch at Evergreen. Numbers of attendees range between 30 to 50. We have special lunches or BBQ’s during the year as well. There is a concert in the afternoon followed by afternoon tea. If that doesn’t appeal you can come in for an exercise session and morning tea. We have art groups running in the afternoon as well! We use the proceeds from sales to purchase items for use at the Centre.
