ALL SAINTS DAY MASS SCHEDULE Holy Day of Obligation
This Friday, November 1, is a Holy Day of Obligation. Catholics are
expected to participate at Mass on the Solemnity of All Saints. The
Church celebrates with all the men, woman, and children who have
entered the kingdom of God and are seated as saints in glory. It is
our humble prayer that someday this will also be our feast day.
Remember on Saturday, November 2, the Church commemorates
All Souls Day.
The Holy Day Masses will be said here on:
Thursday, Oct. 31 at 5:00 PM (Please note that due to Trick or Treating that night, the vigil Mass is earlier than usual.)
and on the Holy Day, Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 AM, 8:30 AM (H.T.C. School Mass), and 5:30 PM
EUCHARISTIC DAY OF ADORATION Friday, Nov. 1
After the 8:30 a.m. Mass until the Benediction at Noon
Praying in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament outside of Mass
has been a part of Catholic tradition for centuries. Spending time in
prayer before the Blessed Sacrament deepens our friendship with
Jesus, which also leads to a more compassionate concern for other
people. We will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on All
Saints Day, Friday, Nov. 1 from the 8:30 A.M. Mass until the
Benediction at Noon. So as to be sure that there is someone in prayer
during the whole time of exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, there is a
sign-up sheet in the church entrance.
PLEASE NOTE: The Parish Office will be closed this Friday - Monday (Nov. 1 - 4)

BOOK OF THE DECEASED
AT ST. MICHAEL PARISH At the main entrance to the church you
will find our Book of the Deceased.
Please feel free to add the names of your
deceased loved ones to have them
remembered at Mass for the month of
November.
REMEMBERING THE DEAD Remembering the Dead Christian communities remember the names of their dead.
These names are heard in the Prayer of the Faithful during
Mass and in the chanting of the Litany of the Saints at the
Easter Vigil. The names of the deceased are seen on holy
cards, memorial cards, and grave markers. Masses are prayed
for the repose of souls. These rituals and practices serve to
keep the memory of those who have gone before us in faith
present in our minds and hearts.
The Book of the Names of the Dead During the Month of All Souls, many parishes have the custom
of giving a place of honor to a book in which community
members and visitors write the names of their beloved dead.
The Book of the Names of the Dead was inspired by the
ancient practice of recording the dates of the deaths of loved
ones in a necrology, a public record or registry of death. This
practice provides the living with an opportunity for healing and
consolation in the face of grief.
The Book of the Names of the Dead is usually displayed from
the solemnity of All Saints until the beginning of Advent. It is left
open for people to write the names of their deceased loved
ones and for others to read the names, remember, and pray for
the repose of their souls. Some parishes place The Book of the
Names of the Dead near the vestibule or gathering space.
Others display the book near the baptismal font with the lighted
Paschal candle nearby, symbolizing that the deceased have
shared in the waters of Baptism, dying with Christ and rising to
new life. Placing the book by these waters gives us hope that
our beloved dead now share in Christ’s Resurrection.
Remembering all of these men and women who have gone
before us, “marked with the sign of faith,” helps us better
understand and appreciate our faith in the Christ our risen Lord
who conquers sin and death and brings new life to all.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED We seem to give them back to you, O God,
who gave them first to us.
Yet as you did not lose them in giving,
so we do not lose them by their return.
Not as the world gives do you give.
What you give you do not take away. O Lover of Souls!
For what is yours is also ours.
We are yours and life is eternal.
And love is immortal, and death is only a horizon,
and a horizon is but the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, strong Son of God, that we may see further;
cleanse our eyes that we may see more clearly;
draw us closer to yourself
that we may know ourselves nearer
to our beloved who are with you.
And while you prepare a place for us,
prepare us for that happy place,
that where they are, and you are, we too may be;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION Trustworthy stewards practice humility, giving glory to God for all things
great and small. Stewardship of treasure calls us to plan our giving; that
is, giving the first portion of our income, not the last. Deciding to do this
involves faith, trusting that what is leftover will be enough for our needs
and the needs of our loved ones as well. Many of those who make this
decision to put God first in their budgets find their faith deepened, and
far from being impoverished, they find themselves enriched both
spiritually and materially as well.
