PROFESSION OF FAITH I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, [ALL BOW] and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. [ALL STAND UPRIGHT] For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

AGNUS DEI Missa de angelis Vatican VIII

Please kneel following the Lamb of God and remain kneeling until it is time for your row to go forward for Holy Communion.

COMMUNION Lætabimur in salutari tuo We shall rejoice in your salvation; and in the name of our God shall we place our pride. chant, Mode II

(10:00 & Noon) Magnificat anima mea “Collegium regale” Herbert Howells

My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden;

For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me, and holy is his name.

And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations. He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel as he promised to our forebears, Abraham and his children, for ever.

Dear Friends,

By now, you may already have received word that Kathleen McCabe, our longtime Director of Faith Formation, died very suddenly on Sunday, October 17th.

This will come as a terrible shock and a great sadness to all of us who loved Kathleen and were privileged to work with her.

I can only begin to imagine how incredibly painful this will be for her husband Jerome and her son Alex, who have already experienced losses beyond measure in their family. At this moment, words are hard to come by, but I know that all of you will join me in praying that od will give Kathleen eternal light, rest, and peace, and to Jerome and Alex, the comfort and consolation they are in such great need of at this time of unimaginable sadness and loss.

from another part of the country, from across the world, or simply from another parish here in the Archdiocese.

PARISH REMEMBRANCE Throughout the year, because we are the Cathedral Church, we remember in prayer at Mass and Vespers each of the parishes and missions of the Archdiocese of Seattle on a Sunday near their feast day. This week we pray for the parishes of North American Martyrs in Edmonds and St. Charles Borromeo in Tacoma and Burlington.

FIXING HOMELESSNESS Two weeks ago, the St. James Housing Advocacy Committee welcomed former Seattle mayor Tim Burgess, Transit Riders Union General Secretary Katie Wilson, and WSCC executive director Mario Villanueva for a virtual forum on Fixing Homelessness in our region. If you wish to view the recording, contact Patrick Barredo, director of social outreach and advocacy, [email protected] FAITH MENTORS BECOMES FAITH FRIENDS Do you know a child ages 7-18 with physical, cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities? Our Faith Mentor program is being rebuilt and relaunched as Faith Friends. The new program begins January 2022 and will be a unique blend of our Faith Mentor, children’s faith formation program, and an inclusion ministry. The program’s goal is to give children ages 7-18 with physical, cognitive and intellectual disabilities access to the parish community, social events, and faith formation. For more information please email Jennifer Wong at [email protected] or visit our program link at https://stjames-faithfriends.weebly.com/ VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OUR FAITH FRIENDS MINISTRY Perhaps the most unique aspect of the relaunched Faith Friends program is the Faith Peer program. Faith Peers are teens and young adults who have chosen to live out their discipleship and share some of their personal time in dedication and service to the goals of the program. Adult volunteers are

needed for the Adult Leadership team. Training for Faith Mentors, Faith Peers and Adult Leadership is starting now. Information, [email protected] or our program link at https://stjames-faithfriends.weebly.com/ ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU We visited a self-employed middle aged man with skills in the HVAC field who relocated to Seattle after receiving an excellent job offer. Unfortunately, the effects of the pandemic resulted in the company going out of business. While looking for work, a scam left him without an apartment and resulted in the loss of his valuable tool box. Finding himself unemployed for a time and having to spend his savings on securing a new apartment, the man fell short of rent money. After he called the SVdP Helpline requesting assistance (206-767-6449), we were able to give him help with his current rent obligation. Thanks to your financial support, assistance such as this is made possible. Thank you! Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or [email protected] WORLD MISSION SUNDAY: OCTOBER 24, 2021 Throughout the year, the Pontifical Mission Societies support the proclamation of the Gospel, the building of the Church, and the work and witness of mission priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay pastoral leaders. These missionaries provide food, education, and medical care to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. Through their work, they reveal the compassionate heart of Jesus. Help support their efforts this World Mission Sunday by giving online at https://www.stjames-cathedral.org/BusinessCenter/Giving.aspx. Thank you!

CARE FOR CREATION NEWS Over the summer, St. James Cathedral received a grant from Zero Waste Washington and Earth Ministry to install water bottle refilling stations on our campus. You can find them on the 2nd floor of Cathedral Place, the Cathedral Kitchen, and in the Pastoral Outreach Center. Already, hundreds of plastic water bottles have been saved!

OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH The U.S. Bishops proclaim that human life is a precious gift from God; that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities toward God, self and others; and that society, through its laws and social institutions, must protect and nurture human life at every stage of its existence.
