Pan, Vino, Sagrario Luis Negrón, Hugo Delgado, José Trujillo, Margot Sánchez, Cecilia Rodríguez THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 25, 2015 XXX DOMINGO ORDINARIO Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time “Jesus Son of David, have mercy on me.” Today’s Gospel brings to a close a long section of Mark’s gospel that focuses on the journey of Jesus and his disciples from Caesarea Philippi in the north to Jericho. On the journey, Jesus endeavors to lead the Twelve out of their metaphorical blindness into an understanding of what it means to follow a suffering messiah. They remain for some time in their blindness as subsequent events will demonstrate. They come to Jericho and then they leave. The intervention of Bartimaeus, who tries to attract Jesus’ attention, threatens to delay the journey. When he cries out for mercy many try to silence him. They use harsh words. Words used by people who neither share Bartimaeus’ faith nor grasp the nature of Jesus mission. When it is clear that the perception of the many is not shared by Jesus, we have an almost comical scene in which they do a complete about face. It seems they want to please the authority figure no matter what. Bartimaeus is in stark contrast to the crowd. He knows that Jesus has the power to bring the mercy of God into his life and the lives of those who wait by the roadside with faith in their hearts. He receives Jesus’ assurance that his faith has made him well. We can find ourselves in all the characters in today’s story. At times we are aware of our blindness and wait desperately by the wayside. At times we are like those who try to silence the voices of those who interfere with our plans. At other times we respond to the cries for mercy and stretch our hands to gather in those whose disabilities might otherwise exclude them. Reflection Picture yourself as Bartimaeus the side of the road calling out to Jesus. What do you want Jesus to do for you? What mercy are you called to do to others? How can we imitate Jesus more completely? Religious Education Registration for the English Religious Education is now closed. Classes are every Saturday in Center Guadalupe, 9:30 to 11:30. Será el 26 de octubre a las 7:00PM, en el Hospital Holy Name Medical Center, Marian Hall 718 Teaneck Rd. Teaneck, NJ “Tú Eres mi Hijo…”, “Tú Eres Sacerdote Eterno…” “Seré un padre para Israel”. He ahí el gran anuncio. Un pueblo, más concretamente un “resto”, puede ir tomando conciencia de nuevo de que es alguien, porque alguien, y este es Dios, se presenta y declara como padre para él. Con semejante padre, el “resto” se embarca en un presente, y aspira, seguro, a conquistar un futuro. No son sus propias habilidades y valores los que sostienen y garantizan su personalidad en la historia - ciegos, cojos -, es más bien la benevolencia de su Dios, “que los ha salvado”. Dios hilvana los destinos y trayectorias de los pueblos, en particular los del suyo. ¿No es para alabar a Dios tanta atención y delicadeza? Nadie, pues, que tenga confianza en ese Dios se sentirá jamás confundido. Porque su amor es una inagotable fuente de creatividad y, por tanto, de esperanza. La disposición de Dios venía sonando desde muy atrás: “Tú eres mi Hijo …”, “Tú eres Sacerdote eterno …” Pero el modo de ejecutarl o era de todo punto novedoso y sorprendente: “Envuelto en debilidades”. El “siervo” que se rebajó hasta la muerte, y muerte en cruz, recibió un Nombre-sobre-todo-nombre. Es Dios quien lo ha hecho; “Ha sido un milagro patente”. En ese contexto, Jesús es manifestado Hijo de Dios en gloria, y constituido Sumo Sacerdote, mediador absoluto ante Dios en favor de los hombres. Vuelven a juntarse en intervención salvadora el supremo poder de Dios y la humilde debilidad humana. Ese obrar pertenece, sin reparo alguno, a la imagen del Dios de Jesús. Un ciego que ve, un ciego que llega a ver. Intuyó que aquél que pasaba por Jericó, ni era cualquier transeúnte, ni se dirigía a cualquier innominado lugar. Era “el Hijo de David”, el Mesías; no tan solo Jesús de Nazaret. Semejante título en su boca era una profesión de fe. Su fe había descubierto quién era Jesús. Y que iba camino de Jerusalén, la Ciudad Santa. ¿No era allí donde debía manifestarse el “reino de Dios” y ser proclamado el Mesías Rey? Para lo primero: “Maestro, que vea”; para lo segundo: “ Y le seguía por el camino”. La fe le descubrió el rostro de Jesús, la fe le dio la salud, la fe le hizo su seguidor. ¿Qué fe es la tuya, hermano? Porque la fe va más allá de lo que los ojos pueden ver; la fe toma cuerpo en la proclamación y confesión; la fe llega a la perfección en el seguimiento.
