En los Estados Unidos, se celebra el primer lunes de septiembre como el Día del Trabajo. Parece un tanto
contradictorio para "celebrar" este día de fiesta, este año cerca de 13 millones de estadounidenses - 8,3% de
trabajadores - permanecen desempleados. Añadir a que otros 8,2 millones de trabajadores que quieren trabajar
a tiempo completo, pero están atrapados y a disgusto a tiempo parcial.
Tal vez este Día del Trabajo, podríamos comenzar con nuestro estudio individual y la reflexión seria por lo que
se guían más por las convicciones morales que el apego a un partido político. Este período antes de las
elecciones puede ser una de la comprensión de nuestra responsabilidad como católicos para analizar la
posición de los candidatos de acuerdo con los valores del Evangelio. Esto incluye la defensa de los no nacidos y
el cuidado de los pobres. Debemos recordar que el privilegio de votar es una responsabilidad moral por el
bienestar de todas las personas.

Entonces, ¿qué se debe hacer? Tal vez necesitamos un "evangelio del trabajo» o «teología del trabajo»,
recordando las palabras de nuestro Divino Obrero: ". ¿Para qué le sirve a una persona ganar el mundo entero
si se pierde o se destruye a sí mismos"
Según la declaración del obispo del Día del Trabajo de este año, "El trabajo no es más que un cheque de pago,
sino que ayuda a criar a nuestras familias, desarrollar nuestro potencial participar en la creación de Dios y
contribuir al bien común. En este momento de crisis económica e incertidumbre, tenemos que reflexionar sobre
las dimensiones morales y humanas de la demasiada pobreza y no trabajar lo suficiente. "
Tal vez este fin de semana del Día del Trabajo puede que sean momento para orar
y reflexionar más que un momento para celebrar un día libre de trabajo. Como
comunidad de fe, somos gente que vivimos los valores del Evangelio, "celebrar" el
Día del Trabajo el lunes con la Misa a las 9:00 am para orar por aquellos que
sufren de desempleo, el subempleo, o que viven en la pobreza obligada a que
éstos puedan encontrar un trabajo honorable para nutrir y sostener, y traer

The Knights of Columbus will be serving a pancake breakfast on Sunday, September 2nd after the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses in our main parking lot. Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. ALL are welcome! Tickets will be sold after weekend Masses as well as the morning of the event. Thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts.

Stewardship / La Administración
A Reflection on Stewardship: Striving to live the stewardship way of life and encouraging our
parishioners to do the same, we often preach on time, talent, and
treasure. We know how important it is to recognize these things as
God’s gifts to us and to give them back to God. “All good giving and
every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of
lights” (second reading).
Today’s scripture readings touch on a very important element of that
message, the stewardship lifestyle, that serves to make the actions of giving our time, talent, and treasure, the
actions of giving ourselves completely to God, truly fruitful or vain. That is our intention. Why do we live this
way? Who are we trying to please and why are we striving to please Him?
For the Jews, so much of doing what is right and being “acceptable by God” involved prescribed rituals – only
eating certain foods, washing before you eat, etc. “Observe them carefully, for thus will you give evidence of your
wisdom and intelligence to the nations” (first reading). But Jesus reminds us that, as Christians, doing what is
right, living a righteous life is much deeper than that. In fact, when the Pharisees and scribes are overly concerned
with the fact that the disciples are eating without following the set rituals, He calls them hypocrites. He sees that
they are observing the letter of the law for the sake of being recognized, and, on top of that, they are judging
others, without knowing the state of their hearts.
“This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me. You
disregard God’s commandments but cling to human tradition” (gospel).
It is not that we aren’t called to follow God’s law – as if intention is all that matters. Rather, so much of Christ’s
law rests on love – love of God and love of neighbor, and everything we do should be done in love.
“Religion that is pure and undefined before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows and their
afflictions, and to keep oneself unstained by the world” (second reading).
We are to act out of love – not for recognition or obligation. Look to Christ. He is our prime example. He came
into the world because of His and the Father’s love for us, and He gave of Himself to the point of death because He
loves us. (Jn. 3:16)
Likewise, we live to serve Him, to glorify Him in all we do not merely because He has called us to do so and we feel
obliged, but because we love Him so much, we want nothing more than to live for Him.
So, when we examine our lives and commit to give more of ourselves to the Lord – more of our time, our talent,
and our treasure – we ought also examine our intent. Everything we do should be done for the greater glory of

In 2002, the Bishops of the United States adopted the
Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.
The charter mandated certain activities which are to be operative
in all dioceses. Among the requirements of the charter is the education
and training of all employees and those volunteers (full-time and seasonal)
who may have contact with children. Our Diocese utilizes the Virtus program
“Protecting God’s Children.”The program trains its participants to recognize the
warning signs of sexual abuse and to respond appropriately.
In protecting God’s Children, your children, all of us need to become
more aware of the dangers that our youth face each day.
This program is designed to help us help others.
The program will be facilitated by Deacon Don Korson and Jodi Clouthier,
both of whom have been trained through the Diocese.
