TODAY
September 9th, 2018
There's a special kind of love that grandchildren have for their grandparents.
It's filled with respect for their wisdom and accomplishments…
with gratitude for the values they've given us... with delight in the stories of our family that they
remember and share.
It's a special kind of love that's built on a lifetime of caring and giving.
It's the kind of love that's felt for you, Grandma and Grandpa... today and always.
SEE BEYOND OUTWARD APPEARANCES The phrase "Sunday best" has lost much of its meaning in our society today. Some lament the loss of people dress-ing up for church on Sunday; others think it's a healthy sign that we're as casual in attire gathered before the Lord as we are elsewhere. No matter which school of thought on this topic we belong to, James would proba-bly chastise us. In either case, we are still focused on external appearance, mistaking it for some sort of fa-vored position before God. True, James criticizes the community that favors the rich and well-dressed while ostracizing the poorly clothed, but even more he criti-cizes the making of distinctions, making choices based on criteria that having nothing to do with the reign of God. James might turn our attention to the reign of God described by Isaiah, in which people are healed and the earth becomes ripe to bear fruit. Jesus today is focused on this reign of God, healing a Gentile man in a region hostile to his Jewish faith, not mindful of the man's ori-gins or clothing or status or ability to repay. Isaiah, James, and Jesus in Mark's Gospel all call us to look more deeply to find where the will of God needs to be done, and has been done, on earth as in heaven.

BUILDING A CULTURE OF VOACATIONS IN OUR
PARISH
“ The world becoming a celibate priest is foolishness. I remember thinking the Lord was crazy when I first felt the call to the priesthood. Priesthood was not in my plans. I didn’t think I could be happy and I tried for a long time to do what I wanted to do. But I couldn’t find true fulfillment on my own. The Lord patiently waited for my response. He kept inviting, but gave me free will. He asked me to put out into the deep, to trust Him. Eventually I did answer His call. I wish I had answered with an emphatic YES when He first called me year prior, but better late than never. Jesus promises to bless our work if we trust Him and He tells us”, “Do not be afraid.”
Fr. Burke Masters, Vocation Director Diocese of Joliet

We looked with horror on the terrorist attacks of September 11th.But we looked with honor on acts of courage by ordinary people who sacrificed themselves to prevent further death and destruction. We shed our tears in a common bond of grief for those we loved and lost. We journeyed through a
dark valley, but your light has led us to a place of hope. You have turned our grief into determination. We are resolved to do what is good, and right, and just. Help us to remember what it means to be Americans—a people endowed with abundant blessings. Help us to cherish the freedoms we enjoy and inspire us to stand with courage, united as one Nation in the midst of any adversity. Lord, hear this prayer for our Nation. Amen.

MARQUEN SUS CALENDARIOS 4ta Gala
