May 22, 2016 — The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Prv 8: 22-31; Ps 8: 4-9; Rom 5: 1-5; Jn: 16: 12-15 Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. That

means we are celebrating God on this holy day. The Most Holy

Trinity is the central mystery of our Catholic faith.

As Catholics we acknowledge the Holy Trinity when we arrive in a

church, and several times during our liturgies as well as other times.

Every time we make the sign of the cross, every time we pray most

likely, we are expressing our faith in the Trinity and our faith that the Trinity was

revealed by Jesus on the Cross. One part of stewardship is knowing our traditions

and the meanings behind them.

Making the sign of the Cross should never be an empty gesture on our parts. Jesus

told us that if we love Him, God (the Trinity) will come and dwell within us. More

than once St. Paul reminds us that we are “temples of the living God.” God is within

each and every one of us. Do we realize that? Do we live out that truth? Today’s

feast confronts us to examine ourselves and our lives. As good stewards we need to

live with the certainty that the Blessed Trinity is present in us. Then we need to

reflect that presence.

St. Madeline Sophie Barat

Foundress

Feast: May 25

Foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart,

born at Joigny, Burgundy, 12 December, 1779;

died in Paris, 24 May, 1865. She was the

youngest child of Jacques Barat, a vine-dresser

and cooper, and his wife, Madeleine Foufé, and

received baptism the morning after her birth,

her brother Louis, aged eleven, being chosen

godfather. It was to this brother that she owed the

exceptional education which fitted her for her life-work.

Whilst her mother found her an apt pupil in practical

matters, Louis saw her singular endowments of mind and

heart; and when, at the age of twenty-two, he returned as

professor to the seminary at Joigny, he taught his sister

Latin, Greek, history, natural science, Spanish, and Italian.

Confirmation Class of 2016

I would like to offer my congratulations to the Confirmation Class on reaching this milestone of their faith. I am sorry that I was unable

to attend the ceremony, but I understand that all went well, and the young people did a great job of preparing to be fully received into

the Church.

I would also like to extend my thanks to Beth Fiddler, Melissa Lachut, Father Jonathan, Shannon Martens and all of the teachers and

parents who helped to prepare these young people for Confirmation. Both parishes joining together for confirmation shows the unity

that is developing between St. Mary and St. Thomas Aquinas as a Catholic community with one goal of training the leaders of

tomorrow's Church. May all be truly blessed.

Knights of Columbus

Congratulations Dina and Dan Garafola on the birth of their granddaughter Rachel Marie and to her parents Rebecca and Gordon Holmes. Please keep her in your prayers.

St. Mary Knights of Columbus Events

Join St Jude Council at the Coventry Catholic Men’s Club Hall (138 Snake Hill Road) on Saturday, May 21st at 6:30 p.m. for our Pulled Pork BBQ. Enjoy Pulled Pork (optional gluten free), salad, bread and dessert for $10.00.

The women of St. Mary/St. Thomas Aquinas enjoyed putting the tea cup flower arrangements together. Father John even did one! We would like to thank all who purchased them and look forward to next year when we can continue the tradition. The money collected will go toward our pledge to the Capital Campaign.

Congratulations to our graduating students. It's always sweet and touching when they come back to St. Thomas seeking their priests to say thank you.
