FAMILY FAITH MOMENTS

The Feast Day of Saints Joachim and Anne is July 26; Anne

and Joachim were the parents of Mary and grandparents

of Jesus. They were devout people of good character.

The Bible doesn’t tell us much about them, but tradition

says that they took their daughter Mary to the Temple in

Jerusalem when she was very young and dedicated her

to God. They taught Mary and brought her up to be

faithful to God. Their faith laid the foundation of courage

and strength that was an example for Mary.

Celebrating the feast days of the saints at home. This week

do something special for your parents. Make a list of the

qualities of a good mother and father, then a list of the

qualities of a good son or daughter. Summer is a great

time to spend more time with your grandparents if

possible. Contact them through a letter, phone call, text,

or in person; and tell them how special they are. Ask your

parents and/or grandparents about their younger life –

what school was like for them, their first jobs, how they

met, etc.

THE STORY of ST. MARY MAGDALENE

Except for the mother of

Jesus, few women are more

honored in the Bible than

Mary Magdalene (July 22).

Yet she could well be the

patron of the slandered, since

there has been a persistent

legend in the Church that she

is the unnamed sinful woman who anointed the feet of

Jesus in Luke 7:36-50.

Most Scripture scholars today point out that there is no

scriptural basis for confusing the two women. Mary

Magdalene, that is, “of Magdala,” was the one from

whom Christ cast out “seven demons” (Luke 8:2); an

indication at the worst, of extreme demonic possession or

possibly, severe illness.

Mary Magdalene was one of the many “who were

assisting them [Jesus and the Twelve] out of their means.”

She was one of those who stood by the cross of Jesus with

His mother. And, of all the “official” witnesses who might

have been chosen for the first awareness of the

Resurrection, she was the one to whom that privilege was

given. She is known as the “Apostle to the Apostles.”

JULY POPE’S

UNIVERSAL INTENTION

The Integrity of Justice. That those who

administer justice may work with integrity, and

that the injustice which prevails in the world

may not have the last word.

Mark your calendars for the new picture directory,

which will include all four parishes in Region XII.

To give you time to get your family together for a great picture opportunity, the dates when the

photographers will be here are September 17 to 21,

September 24 to 28, October 1 to 5, and October 8

to 11. All pictures will be taken at St. Peter Parish

in the Ries Center. Watch the upcoming bulletins

for more details on appointment times and how to set up your photography appointment!

Prayer, Praise, & Transformation

with Father Ambrose

An evening of Adoration,

Taizé, and Worship.

Mission Appeal Daughters of Mary - Tabora, Tanzania

I am Sister Magdalena Chubwa. I was born and raised in the western part of Tanzania, by Lake Tanganyika. I come from a family of nine children; five of whom are already sleeping in Christ, to use the expression of St. Paul (1Thessalonians 4:14).

At 14 years, I was accepted into a religious community, where I eagerly anticipated acquiring formal education, a rare thing especially for most girl-children from my remote village. To facilitate my primary school education, my poor mother locally made and sold drinks/juices she made out of bananas at a local bus-stand/station; where she improvised a shelter, and sat nearly the whole day while patiently waiting for possible buyers. My mother’s spirit of selfless sacrifice and determination spurred me to constantly push myself to attain the highest possible grades throughout primary school and high school, college and graduate school.

Here in the United States, I have obtained a BS in Biology and a MS in Health Care Management and Administration. I am now pursuing my PhD in Health Sciences at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. After my academic accomplishment in America, I will return to Tanzania to join the few healthcare professionals there, where I hope to contribute my expertise, skills, and passion as a health care professional, a teacher, and a researcher. I am grateful to God for this opportunity to prepare myself to serve the poor and most marginalized whom I hold so dear to my heart. I hope to share this knowledge and experience when I return to Tanzania; a country that badly needs specialists to work on both preventive and curative healthcare.

The Congregation of the Daughters of Mary, with its headquarters in the Archdiocese of Tabora was founded in 1933 by the Missionaries of Africa. It was established in response to the tremendous social, economic and spiritual needs of the local people. The Charisma of the congregation is love and service, and all the community members live their Charisma by engaging in different activities such as health care, pastoral ministry, social works, education, women and youth development. Education and healthcare services are particularly directed to rural areas where we serve poor nomadic people, orphans, and deaf children.

BLESSING of HOMES

There is a Catholic tradition to have homes blessed as a means of being made more aware of God’s presence in our lives and to respond to the One who loves us. It is the Church’s hope that having invoked these blessings, the people know that they, too, are blessed and are called to make the world a more holy place by their very lives. Region XII clergy would like to extend the opportunity to have your home blessed. For more details, please call the Parish Administration Office at 233-1503.

MINISTRY to HOMEBOUND

You can put the Works of Mercy into action by volunteering with the Ministry to the Homebound, Sick, and Dying in Dayton Region XII. People are needed who can do simple electrical and carpentry repairs, drive the elderly to appointments, or relieve caregivers for short periods of time. Currently, we are in need of volunteers to drive people during the day, Monday through Friday. For more details, please call the Parish Administration Office at 233-1503.

OUTREACH MINISTRY

For those parishioners from Holy Cross, Our Lady of the Rosary, and St. Adalbert who are homebound or are nursing home residents and need Communion brought to them, please contact St. Adalbert parishioner, Debby Demeter, at 245-1215 or through email at [email protected] for more information. If you are a parishioner of St. Peter and need Communion brought to your home due to being homebound or ill, please call the Parish Administration Office at 233-1503.

Hearing loops improve hearing aids!

Digital hearing aids have significantly improved in the last decade, but they do not restore hearing to normal. Difficulties often remain when in challenging listening situations. Hearing loops help hearing aid users and others overcome this problem by broadcasting sound directly to the hearing aid without background noise or reverberation. What is a hearing loop? How does it work?

Hearing Loops allow people who wear hearing aids to directly receive the sound from the church’s sound system in their own hearing aids without having to pick up a separate listening device. To properly use the hearing loop, you must sit in the first section of the church by the St. Joseph statue. Do you use hearing aids?

If you wear hearing instruments, you will need to find out if your hearing aids have the wireless receiver called a T-coil or Telecoil in order to hear better with the hearing loops in our facilities. The T-coil program is accessed by pushing a button on a hearing aid. This T-coil program has to be activated by your audiologist. Talk to your audiologist to find out if your instruments can have both a T (no background noise pickup) and an MT program (blended microphone and T-coil program). Headset receivers are available for those

without T-coil hearing aids.

For questions about your hearing aids and Telecoils, please talk to your audiologist. To learn more about hearing loops, please visit hearingloop.org or brownaudioservice.com.
