Promising Chinese market in demand of power devicesPower electronics are heavily used in the emerging industries mapped out in China’s central government strategic development plans. The scope covers solar and wind energy, smart grid, EV (electric vehicle), green building, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy equipment and more. In 2013, China surpassed the US and became the largest investor in renewable energy by allocating USD 56.3 billion. Another promising sector is the automotive industry. According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the sale of new energy automobiles from January to May 2014 increased exponentially. In May alone, over 3,770 new energy vehicles were produced, a 98.32% increase from April. With the upward trends of new energy automobiles, the demand for electric motors is expected to grow even more rapidly in the future.

China’s power electronics industry is expected to experience rapid growth from 2015 and 2025. According to CCID, the growth rate for general power electronics devices is forecasted to increase at a compounded annual rate of over 20%. Novelty power electronics, such as IGBT, will grow at an even more astonishing rate of over 30% per year. The country’s market for IGBT is projected to sore from USD 894 million in 2010 to USD 2.4 billion in 2015 and USD 5.5 billion by 2020.
