Question 2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Video with song overlay For this coursework, I had to create 2 ancillary pieces, them being a poster and a digipak. I created the poster using Adobe Photoshop to help advertise and gain a target audience. To create synergy, I purposely made the album cover match the front cover of the digipak as this way, my target audience will be able to link the digipak to the poster. The characters in the poster are the same two main protagonists on the digipak and in the music video. In doing this, I have created another link to each of the three products. The characters are wearing the same outfit that they are in the video and the outfits represent the Indie Rock genre. To help understand what I need to do to portray the indie genre, I researched different posters to see the different designs they used and the way they edited their posters to make them stand out. The colour scheme used on the poster is mainly dark colours such as greens and browns. This is a very indie colouring as it is present in the genre of indie with fashion. The use of this colouring is also on the digipak however I used a different hue to make the digipak look slightly darker. The use of the dark colouring suggests that there is some dark tones in the narrative which is also typical of this genre. The dark colours were embedded into the video due to the setting that I had chosen. This creates synergy between all three media texts as they all link due to the colouring. As well as the colouring of the poster, the font is also linked to the other media texts as both font types, ‘Blacklisted’ and ‘The Skinny’, are prominently seen on the 2 ancillaries. ‘The Skinny’ is the only font in the

this way, my target audience will be able to link the digipak to the poster.

As well as the colouring of the poster, the font is

also linked to the other media texts as both font types, ‘Blacklisted’ and ‘The Skinny’, are prominently seen on the 2 ancillaries. ‘The Skinny’ is the only font in the actual music video as it opens the video with the album name ‘Wonderwall’.

The music video itself is about a couple who have broken up and the main male protagonist is filled with sadness that he tries to commit suicide. I have done this as the genre of Indie has many different relationship stereotypes and the ultimate scenario that I have found is a break up occur the most. I believe this narrative goes perfectly well with the song and has been presented through the use of imagery in the poster and the digipak. I used the tones of black and white frequently throughout the video as there are many flashbacks that can be seen. I created synergy with the digipak here as some of the sides are in black and white rather than in true colour. For the CD design on the digipak, I made the cover of it match the CD side of the digipak to keep the indie theme throughout the

text. It makes the digipak look organised also. The back cover of my digipak is a wooded area with one of the main protagonists seen in the background. This references the final scenes in the video as that is the final setting for the video. It also references the poster as the wooded scenery is present on the poster also. The track list is an array of names, some I have made up and others are names of songs I have heard before. All of the names seem like something from an indie record.
