Fish Products Market in Kazakhstan
Fish consumption in Kazakhstan amounts to about 60
thousand tons a year, or 3,7 kg per person, while in
developed countries fish consumption is 20 - 30 kg per
person.
In recent years, there has been a steady increase in
fish consumption in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The
average growth rate is about 10-15% per year.
Domestic production of fish in Kazakhstan is about 35
thousand tons per year, of which about 21 thousand
tons are exported.
Primarily it is frozen fish that is imported to
Kazakhstan.
Average retail prices for domestic fish products in
2016-17 are as follows: salt-cured and smoked fish -
$4-5 per kg. Fresh fish - $2-3 per kg.
Main breeds of domestic fish are Trout, Carp and Grass
Carp (White Amur) >70% of the total production.
