WORD OF LIFE

“It is not only a personal but a social concern

which we must all foster: a concern to make unconditional respect for human life the

foundation of a renewed society.”

no. 77) © 1995 Libreria Editrice Vaticana.

PRAYER CORNER:

A PRAYER FOR THE VIRTUE OF COMPASSION

Compassionate and merciful Jesus, My heart longs for Your perfection.

Not only do You share in my sufferings, You have voluntarily accepted them.

Your proficiency at perceiving my soul Is compared to reading large fonts in a book:

Nothing is hidden from Your panorama! Your merciful nature knows my intentions. Considering my continuous weaknesses,

You are dedicated to the cause of my salvation. Jesus, You are most kind and forgiving: You are the proven Lord of compassion!

AMEN

A Message from the Pastor

Last Sunday was just wonderful; celebrating 40 years of

priesthood brought back so many memories and stories of events and adventures you cannot begin

to imagine how much it meant to me. Thank you for being such a tremendous part of the now of my priesthood; St. Patrick will allow

me to ease into retirement!

Today is Sexagesima Sunday, 60 days

before Easter. We have one week and a few days before Lent begins so our minds should be on making this the “Best Lent Ever!” What are you going to do for Lent, not what am I going to give

up should be the question on all of our minds. Lent is an Old English word for “springtime”

when the days begin to lengthen. In other

languages this period of 40 days preparation for Easter is referred to as just simply “The Forty Days.” Our English word ties together the notion of

the darkness of winter death giving way to the bright promise of immortality that the spring provides with the celebration of the dying and rising of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ideas: read the story of

Jesus’ Passion in each of the four gospels; prayerfully read one Psalm each day in the morning, at Noon, and at night (the same Psalm);

say the Rosary by thinking about the scene from the life of Christ that the Mystery reveals; make a donation to our St. Vincent de Paul Society as a way of giving alms; fast each weekday – one full

meal and two much lighter meals (Can’t do “each” day? How many can you do?); if you do a Google search you can find hundreds of other things to do and to abstain from that will make your Lenten

penances joyful!

Our Lady, Undoer of Knots, pray for us!

God bless, MJH

Pilgrim Virgin’s Home Visitation Program

A statue of the Blessed Mother is brought to your home by the Legion of

Mary for a visit for one week. Families are asked to set up a little home altar where our Blessed Mother’s statue will be placed.

This Lent, please prayerfully consider

welcoming this image of our Blessed Mother into your home, honoring Mary placed at your shrine. Legion of Mary members will bring the statue to your home and pray the welcoming Rosary with

you, your family and friends. Families hosting the rosary are encourage to invite friends and neighbors to pray with you.

To make arrangements for a Legion of Mary Pilgrim Statue visit call Rosemary Christiano:

Spiritual Adoption Fifth Month

This month marks the halfway point to birth, and your spiritually adopted

baby is very active. Sleep habits develop and the mother can feel him or her move and stretch, particularly when mom is resting. Baby is big and strong enough to kick hard against the outside

uterine wall and dent it. Up to now, although he or she swam with ease in his or her watery world, the baby was too small for the mother to detect

because the inside wall of the uterus has no feeling. Babies born at this age have survived.

Your prayers have helped your baby's mother continue with her pregnancy and seek the help she needs.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.

I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby

that I have spiritually adopted who is in

danger of not being born. Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Intercessor of the Unborn, pray for us.

All married and engaged couples are invited to

of Love, Forgiveness and Connecting with God. Saint Patrick’s is hosting a five-week series using Scriptures and video clips from the film to help you journey closer to God, learning to trust God more

Lent and the Call to Conversion—With

Father Peter . . . If there is one simple, single call of Lent, it is the clarion call to conversion. In these classes we shall try to understand: The significance of Lent; different aspects of

reconciliation; the effects of sin; the need for

conversion; the need for forgiveness; and much more.

Saturdays, February 17, 24; March 3, 10 and 17th

3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Rectory Meeting Room

PRAYER, REFLECTION AND PRAISE

I invite you to join your fellow parishioners and me for an evening of Prayer, Reflection and

Praise. Jesus’ stunning sacrifice requires a response, let us lift our voices in honor, praise and thanksgiving.

Each session will feature Eucharistic Adoration with my hand carved monstrance called the Living Flame of God’s Love. Our final session, on March 22nd, will include a Healing Service.

Fr. Richard Bretone

Thursday Evenings, March 8, 15 and 22 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Church

For all those who have wondered where God is in their pain, for those who have questioned if God is there at all, The Shack movie presents an unforgettable en-

counter with a divine love Who promises to never leave us. We will show the movie at St. Patrick on Wednes-

day March 28th at 4:00 pm.

Anything worth doing is worth

preparing for.

Taking some time to get ready for Lent will ensure that we aren't going to miss the first week or two of Lent, because we are just getting

started. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14th, but, we want to be ready to really take off on that day, rather than just beginning to think about Lent on that day. Part of what makes a

vacation or a special anniversary so special is the build-up to it.

Before we get to Ash Wednesday, we should start asking ourselves some questions and we should start with some preparations. "What does

God want to give me this year?" This question may require that we slow down a bit and listen to our inner spirit.

This Lent do something DIFFERENT!

Take an incredible journey to become the best version of yourself with Dynamic Catholic’s

Best Lent Ever, a free, daily email program that will help you and our parish have a truly life-changing lent.

This year’s program is based on Matthew Kelly's

bestseller Perfectly You. This book will help you grow spiritually, discover your God-given talents, and strengthen your faith so you can pursue God’s dream for your life.

Now is the time to prepare yourself and your

family to have the Best Lent Ever, pick up a copy of Perfectly You from the Rectory Office (the book is free with a goodwill offering to the Poor Box); then sign up (for free) at BestLentEver.com.

Composition of Place-Lecto Divina Spiritual Reading) with Msgr Hardiman

Composition of Place and Lectio Divina are two

forms of prayer that you may wish to explore to enhance your own prayer life during Lent and throughout the year. Both techniques use Sacred

Scripture and the entire personhood of the individ-ual to make prayer a deeper experience that leads us into a deep, abiding, and personal relationship with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
