The CDs below are available at our Lighthouse Catholic Media display:

The Millennial Generation has grown to adulthood. Having experienced many of the conveniences and pitfalls of new technologies, social media, student loan debt, and adult life, millennials have also developed a genuine desire to do something great with their lives, but often don't know how to get there. As fellow millennial Paul J. Kim shares with great humor and insight, tackling life's big challenges and desires for vocation, career, and greatness can give powerful witness to God and the gift of life. Parishioner Comments Paul’s talk was spot on—gave me both the encouragement and the challenge I need, as an adult Catholic millennial with big dreams. “The grass is greener where you water it”—great insight.

Masculinity. In recent years, the use of this word has become controversial, and discussion about it unwelcome or silenced. Is all masculinity “toxic”? Dr. Tim Gray strongly asserts that while fallen masculinity does exist, authentic, God-given masculinity is a great virtue that is desperately needed in our world. Drawing on personal and cultural examples, Tim challenges men to face their fears about failing or "striking out," and encourages them to become the men they desire to be—loyal, dependable, and beloved friends, spouses, and fathers—in the image of Jesus Christ, the Perfect Man. Parishioner Comments “This is a solid look at masculinity in our culture. It’s a call to action. I recommend every man listen to this powerful talk.”

Why would an all-powerful, all-loving God allow suffering and evil in the world? As Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D. explains, unsatisfying answers to this important question are the #1 reason for atheism today. But by answering this question with logic and love (as well as with scientific, peer-reviewed evidence for the existence of life after death), we can not only answer this question truthfully and satisfactorily, but also teach our fellow Christians how to suffer well, in preparation for the limitless love of God that awaits us in eternity. Parishioner Comments “Fr. Spitzer answered so many of my questions about the existence of God, suffering, life after death. Wow. Just... wow.”

When you hear the word “addiction”, what typically comes to mind? Needles? Alcohol? Pills? As Jim Owens, MA, LPC explains, addiction is much simpler, including everything from substances to technology, screen time, work, shopping, and even sugar. Addictions and distractions are used to manage pain—but in the process, end up damaging our brains, our relationships, and our ability to find lasting happiness. Jim gives scientific evidence and practical advice for overcoming wounds, to help hurt people become healed people. Parishioner Comments “An excellent talk... engaging, and made me examine my life on a meaningful level. I think this will really help those who are struggling to understand themselves better and seek the healing they need, for them and their loved ones."

Are You New to St. Brendan’s? If you are new to St. Brendan’s then Fr. Mullen and Deacon Ghioni would like to meet you. Please introduce yourself to them after Mass. Also, parish registration forms can be found on the table outside the parish offices in the parish hall.

Holy Hour for the Purification of the Church

Please join us on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. for a HOLY HOUR for the purification of the Church. Sins against chastity and the abuse of power have put the Church into a grave darkness. The best weapon we have against this evil is prayer, especially prayer before the HOLY EUCHARIST and the intersession of our Lady. Please join us as we pray the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and more. The Church is in dire need of healing, St Michael pray for us and protect us.

Fall Fair Needs Even though our Fall Fair is in November, we need to start some preparations for it now in the Spring! One of our greatest needs is for those who will seek out prizes for our Big Raffle. We need a few people who will be willing to go to area businesses within the next couple of months and ask for donations. The task involves some hours of legwork, but it is very important for the success of our Fall Fair. We already have three volunteers for this job. One more helper would make everyone’s job a bit easier. If you are willing to help out in this then please contact Fr. Mullen.

Old Parish Pictures Wanted

Our parish 75th Anniversary Committee is looking for old pictures depicting parish life in the 1940s and 1950s (and even older). If you have such photos could we borrow them? Please contact the parish office or see Fr. Mullen.

The Good Shepherd Program is an approach to the religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Bible, the Liturgy of the Church and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children ages 2.9 – 6 years are eligible. The program will begin November 5th and is taught by the Sisters, The Franciscan Handmaids of the Immaculate, on Tuesday mornings in the Parish Hall from 10 AM until 12 Noon. Registration fee is $40.00 per child. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, approved by St. John Paul II, is growing and is being acclaimed throughout the world because its philosophy is that even very young children have a religious life. God is present to them in their deepest being and they are able to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus. Registrations are available through the Parish Office or on the lamp table outside the Parish Office. For more information you may go to the national website: [email protected] or contact Sr. Elizabeth at 508-966-2362 or [email protected] .

Catholic Doctrine Class Each year Fr. Mullen conducts a Catholic Doctrine Class that is appropriate for any adult seeking Baptism, Confirmation, or joining the Church as an adult who has already been baptized in some Christian denomination. It is also appropriate for anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith. The class is presented in a seminar style and the text used is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We have classes on Thursday nights at 7:00 P.M. This class will begin in mid September. If you have any questions then please contact Fr. Mullen. All are welcome.

Low Gluten Hosts

Many people have asked Fr. Mullen for the low gluten hosts, and so he needs an accurate list of those requests. If you need to receive the low gluten host then please call the parish office so as to get your name on the list. Otherwise, Fr. Mullen may forget!

Dr. Bergsma’s Audio Materials Available on Loan

Fr. Mullen has the following audio materials of Dr. Bergsma’s publications which you can borrow: “But Did It Really Happen?, The historical reliability of the Bible”, “Genesis, Creation & Evolution”, and “Are Priests Biblical?, A study of Priesthood in the Old and New Testaments.”; Contact Fr. Mullen if you would like to borrow any of these CD sets.

Vocations Cross One visible way to unite the entire community in praying for priests and for an increase in vocations is to encourage all parishioners to participate in “The Vocation Cross.” Every two weeks a different person will take the Vocation Cross home, placing it in a place of honor. The participants will pray for two weeks for an increase and perseverance of vocations. They will return the Cross in two weeks. Parishioners, families or single people, can confirm their participation by recording their name and telephone number on the sign-up sheet located at the doors of the Church. All are invited to participate in the program. The hope is that this experience will encourage everyone to take seriously our vocation as a member of the Body of Christ and to pray for the gift of all vocations, especially to the priesthood and religious life. Knowing the Spirit is calling men and women to these roles of service, may our prayer help inspire young men and women to be attentive to the movement of the Spirit within them and to step forward in faith with generous hearts. Contact Palma Kaneda for more information @ 774-233-0661 or [email protected] .
