Corpus Christi Food Collection : This is a reminder next weekend,

the Feast of Corpus Christi, our parish will participate in a Dioce-

san-wide food collection for the poor. This collection sponsored by

Catholic charities and authorized by Bishop Serratelli. We are all

Fatima and Southern Spain Pilgrimage

trip this summer to Fatima and Southern Spain.

The Diocese of Paterson will be hosting the 2017 Pilgrimage

this October to the National Shrine, The Basilica of the Im-

maculate Conception in Washington D.C.. on October 20 &

21, 2017. The trip includes transportation, two meals includ-

Hotel in Virginia, and spiritual visits to America’s Frist Ca-

thedral, and St. Jude Shrine in Baltimore, and the National

Shrine of the Immaculate conception. Included will be daily

CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF THE MOST SA-

CRED HEART OF JESUS – The Solemnity of the

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus will be observed on Friday,

June 23rd at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on East Main

Street. The feast day begins with the celebration of the

Holy Mass at 6:30 in the evening, followed by an out-

door procession with the Most Blessed Sacrament, and

the singing of the Litany to the Most Sacred Heart of

Jesus. Following the church service a reception will take

place in Suchon Hall along with a brief program. ALL

ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND TO JOIN IN CELE-

BRATING THIS SPECIAL FEAST!

SAINT CECILIA CEMETERY – I used Memorial Day

weekend to announce an addition to the Saint Cecilia Ceme-

tery. A COLUMBARIUM is being constructed, off site, and

will be delivered to the cemetery sometime in August. A

“columbarium” is an above ground structure which houses

the ashes of the departed in individual compartments. Our

columbarium will have 80 compartments which will be

topped by a statue of the Risen Christ. Around the structure

will be the words the Lord Jesus spoke to Martha in Bethany

at the grave of her brother Lazarus, “I am the Resurrection

and the Life, he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall

he live.” (John 11:25) For those who choose cremation, the

columbarium is the place (along with the ground) which the

Catholic Church states is the proper place for the burial of the

faithful departed’s ashes. The columbarium will be placed on

the left side of the cemetery as you enter through the main

gate. One may purchase a burial niche as soon as the struc-

ture is in place and after it has been blessed. Information re-

garding the price for the burial spot will be announced in the

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION – The Solemnity

of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, commonly

known as Corpus Christi, will be celebrated on Sunday,

June 18th. An outdoor procession with the Most Blessed

Sacrament will take place at Saint Cecilia Church be-

ginning at 1:30 p.m. A special invitation is given to

children to serve strewing flower petals during the pro-

cession and to be altar servers. I ask that parents please

help me in guiding their children to serve our Lord on

Men’s Society Charitable Donation On Saturday April 29, 2017, the Men’s Society of St. Ce-

cilia Parish held a Beefsteak Dinner benefitting the charitable

organization Rockaway Food Closet. On behalf of Father

Sigmund Peplowski, Pastor of St. Cecilia Parish, a donation

of $ 2,053.00 was sent to help Rockaway Food Closet to

continue to feed the hungry families in Rockaway Borough

and Rockaway Township.

St. Anthony, called “St. Anthony of Padua” on account of his long residence in that city, was a native of Lisbon in Portugal, where he was born in 1195, receiving the name of Ferdinand at his Baptism. At. An early age his parents placed him in the community of the canons of the Cathedral of Lisbon, by whom he was educated. At fifteen he entered the Order of Regular Cannons of St. Augustine near Lisbon. After two years he was sent to the convent of the Holy Cross of the same Order at Coimbra.

He had lived in this house eight years, intent on his studies, when the relics of five Franciscan martyrs were brought from Morocco to Portugal. This event inspired him to follow in the footsteps of these heroes of the Faith. When his became known his brethren offered extreme opposition, but he finally obtained the consent of the prior and passed over to the Franciscan Order.

After some time he obtained leave to go to Africa to preach to the Moors, but a severe illness obliged him to return to Spain. However, the vessel was driven to Sicily by contrary winds , and the desire to see St. Francis took him to Assisi, where a general chapter of the Or-der was in progress. At first, he was entirely ignored in the Order, and he purposely kept himself in obscurity; but Providence soon re-vealed to the Franciscans what a treasure they had acquired and St. Anthony was made professor of theology, which subject he later taught successively at Bologna, Toulouse, Montpellier and Padua.

He gave me teach to devote himself to preaching, for he was an accomplished orator, being at the same time filled with zeal for souls. In this work he traveled through France, Spain, and Italy. He was invested with several important dignities in his Order and labored hard to preserve monastic discipline, boldly opposing the famous General Elias, who sought to introduce relaxations. He died June 13, 1231, and was canonized the following year by Pope Gregory IX.

PRAYER: Almighty, ever-living God, You gave Your people the extraordinary preacher St. Anthony and made him an intercessor in difficulties. By his aid grant that we may live a truly Christian life and experience Your help in all adversities. Amen

ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA, Priest and Doctor of the Church June 13 — Patron of the Poor

My dear parishioners,

With the leave-taking of Easter we re-enter Ordinary Time to commemorate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. This Sunday’s

commemoration, as well as next Sunday’s, is a celebration of Christian theology. Today we ponder the very being of God, our

God who has revealed Himself in Three Divine Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God is a commu-

nity of Persons who invites us into this relationship so that we may have a share in His divine life. Those who long for God by

living a virtuous life will ultimately experience this union in eternal life. However, even now we can experience union with God,

in a different way, through the Eucharist. Every time we participate in the celebration and reception of the Holy Eucharist we

enter into the very life of God. We become united with Him and are changed by Him. The Eucharist is the “doorway” by which

we enter into the heavenly while still on earth.

Throughout Christian history there have emerged many signs and symbols which try to depict the Most Holy Trinity. We all are

aware of the shamrock which Saint Patrick used as a catechetical tool to speak on the Trinity in his evangelization of the Irish

people. We know of the triangle which is a symbol of the Trinity, one unit with three sides or angles.

In my opinion the one which is the most beautiful is the “Icon of the Hospitality of Abraham and Sarah” which was painted by

the Russian Orthodox cleric, Andrew Rublev. The icon recalls the visit of the three heavenly visitors to Abraham and Sarah as

recorded in the Book of Genesis, chapter 18. The icon shows the three heavenly visitors seated at table. On the table is bread and

one of the “angels” is pointing to the opening in the table in a gesture of invitation (God the Son). One angel extends his hand in

blessing the bread (God the Holy Spirit). Two angels look toward the one angel (God the Father) as in love or reverence. This is

an icon of the Most Holy Trinity. We see God and the invitation which God offers to us to enter into union with Him and it is in

the table fellowship which is the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Union with God is our goal; it is what will happen at the end of our life for the one who loves God. Our participation in the Sun-

day Eucharist is a sign right now that we long for this union. The Eucharist is a foretaste of the life to come. So how can atten-

dance at Sunday Mass be optional? It’s only optional for the one who has no faith, no hope and no love for the God who has

saved us in Jesus His Only Begotten Son!

Please join me in next Sunday’s public demonstration of our faith in Jesus hidden in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Our outdoor

procession with the Eucharist will take place beginning at 1:30 in Saint Cecilia Church.
