MASS INTENTIONS
Summer is here! and folks will be going away. We ask you to remember your donations to St. Cecilia’s during the weeks or months you have the good fortune to be participating elsewhere. Thank you for your “make-up” donations.
Pastoral Reflections Some who heard Jesus ’ teaching returned to their former way of life and gave up following Him. The demands of being a follower of Christ were too much for them. How about you/ When being a dis-ciple of Jesus feels too hard, and you want to walk away, how will you respond to Jesus when He asks, “Do you also want to leave?” Let’s pray that our response is like that of Peter, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. ”
The Cardinal, due to COVID problems, has extended
the Year of the Eucharist to June 2022

The Importance of Faith By Fr. Francis A. Grispino, S.M.
Jesus is for us a light in the darkness. In today’s world ideas are bandied about that attempt to challenge the Al-mighty and by the fact causes darkness, befuddles right thinking, and ensnares that unsuspecting. What follows is an attempt to give a demonstration. “The Quality of Life” This expression is found among those in the health pro-fession. For some the “quality of life” takes on special meaning. It means living the “good” life. This is descried as living a healthy life, a life filled with enjoyment and sat-isfaction, a life worth living. The opposite is described as living a healthy life, a life filled with enjoyment and satis-faction, a life worth living. The opposite is described in negative terms: life becomes a burden, there is no joy in life in the manner experienced when you were in your prime. And so now comes the expression that, in context, is meant to expose your misery, “The quality of life has passed you by.” The joy that comes with an active life, good health, and satisfaction in all your endeavors are of yesterday and not of tomorrow. It is time to consider “checking out.” Who Decides That? Who dares tell you that your life lacks “quality” if all you are capable of doing now is to go from bed to bath and kitchen day after day or worse yet, be confined to a wheelchair? God help us when atheists and secular hu-manists make up rules and regulations called “social engi-neering.” Such officials fail to see the inherent dignity of the human person and treat them as cattle. Their objec-tive is much like those of ranchers or overseers in the beef industry: seek out the best animals that will produce the best of their kind and weed out the worst. Principles of prime beef are put into practice so that what survives at-tains the norm of health—excellence, anything short of that will not do. With such a world view, social engineers see human as cattle without a soul. And there is the prob-lem: atheists and the like don’t believe in the existence of the soul. Humans not Animals This failure, not to see man made in the image and like-ness of God having inherent dignity over that of the ani-mal, must deny the existence of God. This is true of Com-munism. How else can a despot give full reign to his so-cial engineering by dominating the individual and keep the false narrative alive about the common good. Com-munism and extreme socialism speak well of doing for the masses but neglect the individuals . Power increases in such a government while the individual gets trampled un-der. Linus in the comic strip “Peanuts” portrays the mind-set of power-hungry governments in these words, “I love you humanity. It’s people I can’t stand.” Time for Preparing It is in one’s declining years that preparation is made for the coming transition to the new life that divine faith prom-ises. It is the time to catch up on important matters that

Year of the Eucharist Adoration Schedule

Some will include congregational prayers and other will focus on silent, individual prayer and reflection. You do not have to stay for the entire time. Our weekly schedule will be as follows: Sunday: 12:15 pm-2:15 pm, (except when Baptisms are held, when it will start at 1:00pm) Monday: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Tuesday: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Thursday: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm Friday: 9:45 am - 11:45 am Note: Adoration will start at 1:15pm on the last Sunday of each month when we have the Sacrament of Baptism. For more information and the latest news about the Year of the Eucharist, please see the parish Website at www.saintceciliaparish.org/celebrating-year-eucharist.
Prayer for the Year of the Eucharist Thanks be to You, O Lord, for Your Body and Your Blood, for these ever-abundant gifts we praise You.
Draw near to us, and have mercy on our sins; Lord Jesus, Who are holy and kind, have mercy.
May Your Body and Blood, which we receive in the Eucharist, be a powerful medicine for our souls and lead us to heaven.
Help us to worship You, good Shepherd, and look kindly upon Your grazing sheep.
Protect us by these gifts, and increase our faith in You, Who are truly present in the Eucharist.
Restore us by Your grace into Your image and like-ness, that the Father may see and love in us what He sees and loves in His Son, Who lives and reigns for-ever and ever.
Amen.

have been neglected for too long. Sorrow for sins commit-ted during the foolishness of youth may serve as a prime example; rash judgements made of those in one’s social circle may be another. Habitual sorrow for such sins is a virtue called: repentance. In one’s senior years available time can be used to pray the Rosary, the weapon of choice, against the ills that befall us such as the pandem-ic and needless hunger for power that brings tremors to the very foundations of government. Mass celebration, when possible, prayer for self and others, Scripture read-ing with reflection (man’s input) leading to contemplation (God’s input) are the indisputable means of preparation for what lies ahead. Let Faith Blossom Jesus tells us that when we pray…”go to your inner room, closed the door, and pray to your Father in secret” (Matt 6,5). Jesus is telling us that we should shut out the world, enter church to celebrate, as commanded, the Death and Resurrection of the Lord at Mass, and from time to time visit God at the center of your soul and be revived in spirit so that you can give the acceptable answer to Him Who warned, “But when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?” (Luke 18,8). We are on our own for that answer.
Thank you from La Salette Missionaries!

Learning With Mary Booklet Available Last year, the St. Cecilia Parish Stewardship Committee began a project called “Learning with Mary” to strengthen the parish tradition of devotion to our Blessed Mother. The first step was a series of bulletin articles about the Marian themes of the stained-glass windows in the church. This summer we completed the next step in this journey of rediscovery. “Devotions To Our Blessed Mother– A Saint Cecilia Parish Tradition” is a complete overview of the many opportunities at St. Cecilia Parish to meditate on and pray to Our Lady.
Copies of the booklet are now available in the church vestibule We encourage all parishioners to stop by and take a copy home. You can use the meditations, not just at home, but in the Church and on the grounds of the Parish. They all can be said as private prayers, providing an easy way to connect with our Blessed Mother in these times of social distancing. In these times of distress—from the virus, racial injustices, and civil unrest—the intercession of Mary, patroness of the United States is sorely needed. Please use this little booklet as a cornerstone to strengthen your devotion to our Blessed Mother.
