Reflec ons with the Word of God from the priests of Saint Cecilia Parish
August 9 – 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Read 1 Kings 19: 9a, 11-13a and Ma hew: 14: 22-33
Jesus ascends the mountain alone to pray. The apostles are in a boat that is tossed about with high waves and strong winds. During the fourth watch of the night Jesus catches up with them. He invites Peter to abandon his fear and walk on the water, which Peter does un l he focused on the difficulty (death from drowning) rather than on Jesus. Back in the boat Jesus restores their confidence in the faith he teaches. “You of li le faith,” is the truth absent of any humilia on, instead it is reassurance that in those moments of fear his hand is always there for us to take.
The fourth watch of the night is described as the quietest moment where the veil between earth and heaven is at its thinnest. Elijah in the first three watches did not to hear God’s voice in a strong wind, the power of an earthquake nor the rage of a fire: but in the fourth, a ny whisper. In this watch the Blessed Trinity opens heaven with graces to com-prehend a purifying healing, and a restored purpose for life. Becoming open to the whisper, one’s mys cal awareness expands as if you were standing on a mountain top and seeing the totality of life in God with clarity. The fourth watch of the night is 3:00am to 6:00am. Dur-ing today’s predicaments will you pray with Jesus during the fourth watch?
Pray and praise the Lord for giving us each other as we are his Church. Pray His will be done in all civic leaders from the president to local officials. Put under His authority: the pandemic, the civil unrest, all injus ce and poverty, the opioid and substance abuse addic ons, the violence, the hopelessness, unemployment, and any other concerns. Pray that He restores our confidence that we are one na on under God and for all evil to be conquered. Blessings.

Leer 1 libro de los Reyes 19: 9a, 11-13a y Mateo: 14:22-33
Jesús sube solo a la montaña para orar mientras los apóstoles están en la barca que es agitada por las olas y el viento. De madrugada Jesús los alcanza. Invita a Pedro a abando-nar su miedo y caminar sobre el agua, lo que Pedro hace hasta que se centró en la dificultad (muerte por ahogamiento) en lugar de en Jesús. De regreso en la barca Jesús restaura su con-fianza en la fe que le enseño. "Usted de poca fe", es la verdad ausente de cualquier humilla-ción, en cambio, es tranquilizar que en esos momentos de miedo la mano de Dios siempre está ahí para levantarnos.
La madrugada se describe como el momento más tranquilo donde el velo entre la erra y el cielo está en su punto más delgado. Elías en los tres primeros momentos no oyó la voz de Dios ni en el fuerte viento, ni en el poder de un terremo-to ni en la ira del fuego: sino en el cuarto momento, en un pequeño susurro. Al abrirse al susurro, la conciencia mís ca se expande como si estuvieras de pie en la cima de una montaña y viendo la totalidad de la vida en Dios con claridad. ¿Durante los aprietos de hoy orarás con Jesús?
Oren y alaben al Señor por darnos el uno al otro como su Iglesia. Orar para que su voluntad se haga en todos los líderes desde el presidente hasta los funcionarios locales. Para poner bajo su poder: la pandemia, los disturbios civiles, toda injus cia y pobreza, las adicciones y abuso de sustancias, la violencia, la desesperanza, el desempleo y cualquier otra preo-cupación. Orar para que El restaure nuestra confianza en que somos una sola nación bajo la mirada de Dios y para que todo mal sea eliminado. Bendiciones.

THE PRESENCE OF GOD A er the miracle of Jesus walking on water, the disciples exclaimed, “Truly, you are the Son of God” (Ma hew 14:33). Most Chris ans will probably never experience such a drama c miracle. Like Elijah, we await the manifesta on of God in other moments. Perhaps the biggest challenge for the believer is to be constantly a uned to the possible presence of God in the everyday events of life. This is a stance that takes some people years to develop. Others seem to find the Lord easily in the simple things. As the week un-folds, let us look for the presence of God in the li le things around us. Perhaps, like Elijah, we will be sur-prised at what we find. And, like the disciples, we can add our voice to the confession, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

LA PRESENCIA DE DIOS Después del milagro en que Jesús camina sobre el agua, los discípulos exclaman: “Verdaderamente, tú eres el Hijo de Dios” (Mateo 14:33). Es probable que la mayoría de los cris anos nunca vivan un milagro tan dramá co. Igual que Elías, esperamos la manifestación de Dios en otros momentos. Tal vez el más grande reto para el cre-yente es estar en constante sintonía con la presen-cia de Dios en los sucesos de la vida diaria. Es una postura que toma años desarrollar. Otros parecen encontrar al Señor con facilidad en las cosas sim-ples. A medida que transcurre la semana, busque-mos la presencia de Dios en las pequeñas cosas que nos rodean. Quizás, como a Elías, nos sorpren-derá lo que encontremos. Y, como los discípulos, podemos agregar la confesión: “Verdaderamente, tú eres el Hijo de Dios”.

Sacrament of Baptism / Bautizos
Para Niños de 5 años o menos, celebramos bautizos el 2ndo y 3er sábado del mes a las 11am. Por ahora no estamos dando charlas pre bautismales. Por favor venga a la oficina para inscribir a su bebé. Traiga una copia del acta de nacimiento de su bebé y el nombre de los padrinos. La donación de $100 se entrega con la inscrip-ción. (Los niños de 6 años o más deben hacer un año de catecismo para poder bautizarse)
Presentaciones Las presentaciones regularmente son el pri-mer Sábado y Domingo del mes, durante la misa. Por favor venga a la oficina para inscri-bir a su hijo/a. Hay una donación de $40 que se da con la inscripción. Sacrament of Marriage The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage Prepa-ration are that a minimum of 7 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage. Couples should refrain from setting a firm date until after they have met with the Pastoral Associate to discuss marriage plans. Wedding are celebrated Saturdays at 2pm.
Quinceañeras
Celebraciones son Sábados. Las quinceañe-ras tienen que haber recibido los sacramentos (por lo menos 1ra Comunión). Comuníquese con Rosie para hacer una cita por lo menos 4 meses antes de la celebración. Para reservar la fecha de la Quinceañera la donación es de $350 y se debe traer el día de la cita.
