THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER 3

May we always keep in mind that this parish exists to give glory to God in all we do and for each one of us to be sanctified in our lives. St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.

From the Pastor

CONGRATULATIONS

We extend our congratulations to Linda Pudlowski (right) and Maureen Ederle (left) who recently completed the Lay Formation Program and were commissioned by Archbishop Carlson on April 6 to serve as lay leaders in our Parish. The Lay Formation Program is designed to offer lay men and women an opportunity to deepen their union with Christ and develop their ability to par-ticipate in the Church’s mission of evangelization as missionary disciples. The preparation consists of three years of intellectual, spiritual and pastoral formation. After commissioning leaders are asked to give three years of service to the Parish. Linda is currently serving as our RCIA Coordinator and Maureen is currently serving as a PSR Catechist and Leader of our Adult Faith Formation Team.

EASTER SACRAMENTS

Congratulations to our 2nd graders who received their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 4. What a great joy it is to always see our little ones adore Our Lord in the Eucharist. May we all grow in love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Also, please remember our 8th graders who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this coming Wednesday, May 8. Archbishop Carlson will visit our Parish to confer this final Sacrament of Initiation. Don’t forget that simple prayer: Come Holy Spirit!

Annual Catholic Appeal

Thank you to all who completed their pledge card to support the ACA. This annual campaign helps support the many agencies and ministries of the Archdiocese. Here at our Parish we have benefited as well through direct and indirect grants to support our good works. Please take a few moments to fill out your pledge card with any gift amount – no amount is too small. If you cannot make a gift this year, please still sign your card so we know you considered the appeal. This will save us from having to make follow up phone calls. The ACA cards can be found in the Rectory Basement this weekend and next weekend. During the week, the ACA cards will be in the Rectory Office. Thank you as always for your generosity.

LEADERSHIP NOMINATIONS

Are you or someone you know ready to help me in the leadership of our Parish and School? It’s time for our nomination process for our key committees that advise me. I am looking for parishioners who love the Parish and School, are organized, like being driven by a mission and are energetic for creating disciples. If some of these qualities sound like you, perhaps you would be the right person to assist me on the Parish Council, Finance Committee, Stewardship Committee or School Board. I will be accepting nominations for these important leadership roles over this next week. In addition, I will also be accepting nominations for leaders to run our Annual Parish Picnic. Then all those who have been nominated will be invited to a discernment night on Monday, May 13 at 6 p.m. to listen more about the roles and pray about whether God is calling you. Please nominate yourself or another to be considered for a role to assist me in the administration of the Parish. Also please pray that God sends me the right leaders to help me in the work of building the Kingdom.

DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE!

Casting our nets

In the first reading we hear how Peter and the apostles told the Sanhedrin that “We must obey God rather than men.” Then in the Gospel we hear that Jesus appeared to the disciples after they had fished all night without any success. Jesus told them to “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.” Despite being tired, the disciples obeyed and they caught 153 large fish! We have so many reasons that we can give for not wanting to obey God and “cast our nets” by sharing the Gospel message with others through our example and our actions. Here are just a few: we are tired; we would rather stay in our comfort zone; we are afraid because we think we don’t know our faith well enough; or we would rather do what we want. This week we can spend some time pondering these questions: Do I obey God when I hear Him speaking to me in my heart? Do I cast my nets through my example and actions? Do I cave into the pressures of our current culture or to my own desires? archstl.org/live-the-faith

Weekly Reflection:

“Peter was distressed that Jesus had said to him a third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and he said to him, ‘Lord, you know every-thing; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’” - John 21:17

All of us are challenged to show our love for Jesus and others. Discern how God is calling you to use your time in prayer, your talent in charitable works and your treasure to assist those who are in need. Remember that giving is an act of worship and helps advance the mission of our parish and greater Church.

SFA middle school students are

in the St. Louis Review for the

Catholic Connections program

This program is being developed as a result of a Beyond Sunday grant for $72,900 we received from the Roman Catholic Foundation. Through this two-year grant we are developing and piloting a unique middle school experience. For this first year, a mini-pilot was put into place. Students chose topics of interest and are studying real world problems through the lens of Catholic Social Justice topics, such as poverty, environmental issues, health and nutrition, and sustainability. After researching and having discussions of essential questions such as “Is there such a thing as being too rich?” or “Am I healthy and how do I know?” the students met with high school mentors from Rosati Kain and St. Mary’s high schools. These mentors helped them to think creatively or “outside the box” about what to do with their new information in order to make a difference. Students and their mentors will meet virtually during the next month. Students will showcase their projects before the Spring Home and School meeting on May 15th. Don’t miss it! The program will continue to develop further during the second year. Over the summer the principals of the three participating schools will come together to develop a course that 8th grade students can complete in order to receive high school credit. There will be a component for some of the SFA PSR students. The time line and pool of mentors will be expanded as well. Stay tuned! https://www.archstl.org/high-school-connection-helping-oakville-school-to-thrive-3921

Do you love me?

Have you ever asked this question of someone you love?

These are the words of Jesus to Peter after the resurrection. In this famous passage, Jesus asks him three times. Over and over again, Jesus persists. “Do you love me?” It must have hurt Peter to hear his Lord and Master repeat this penetrating question. Exasperated, Peter says, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you!”

Jesus knew Peter believed, but he also knew how fragile his faith was. Only a short time before did Peter deny Jesus and run away when Jesus was crucified. Jesus doesn’t demand an ex-pression of faith, so much as encourage us to be confident and sure when we say, I Believe. Jesus knows once Peter is con-firmed in faith, he will do anything for the proclamation of the Gospel.

The Annual Catholic Appeal asks the question, “Will you give?” In some ways it is the same question as “Do you love me?” or even “Do you believe?” It is really one question, not three, to which the Christian is invited to make a response. I Believe, in short, means I love and I will give.

Thank you to the St. Francis of Assisi Home and School Association for providing the delicious meal

for Alpha this past week!

Please pray for the sick and military men and women. If you or a loved one would like to be added to either list, please call the Parish Office. Also, please let the rectory office know if you or your loved one is no longer sick or active in the military and can be removed from the prayer lists. Thank you.
